Thank you for this tribute to Patrick Davin, the wonderful Belgian conductor who made this recording and so many others - he tragically died minutes before rehearsing a new opera "Is this the End" at La Monnaie in Brussels this week. This was the last recording published during his life.
In the CD from which this recording was taken, Patrick Davin recorded all of Dupont's orchestral music, with also some premieres... It's very sad to hear that!...
Yes, I so agree with your comment. There is nothing wrong with the original piano pieces, but his orchestrations bring his music to life in ways that his original piano pieces don't.
