Simple. Make sure the item count is at 1000, press the left and right button simultaneously (A and B) or the 4th button to activate power up mode. After the power up mode effects wear off, all bullets on screen will disappear. However, in MBL, you can activate power up mode at 500+ but bullets will NOT disappear after the power up mode effects wear off.

un-focus your shots then move back so that your familiar goes upfront, and then focus again so that they won't rotate.
