Always great advice no nonsense mid November here in Ontario Canada great job peter thanks.
dear Peter.
i just want to assure you that on the 31of october the haloween.
i was working late so i didnt go hunting and therefore i missed an 8 pointer .
i found his footage on my trail cam.
Took the largest buck of my life on November the 14th, West Central Kentucky. 13pointer field dressed at 163lbs. Gross weight probably over 200lbs
Congrats on taking a great buck! Much appreciate you being a subscriber to our YT channel. That was a big buck for sure!
My favorite myth is the one that says a buck will not leave a doe in heat, so it's ok to shoot a doe in heat first becuase the buck will just stand still, or it's good to allow the doe to lead the buck into an open area like a field. I've only had one big buck stick around after shooting the doe, and I've had a 180" buck refuse to leave the brush of a field edge for a doe in heat that wanted to nibble on winter grass, he stuck around but he wasn't taking any chances. If you have a 3 second opportunity to put a bullet in the zone you had better make the most of it, becuase you are never going to see that big one again unless you are the only hunter on a square mile of land.
Here in west central illinois we had lockdown during 2nd-3rd week in november. 1st week we had a ton of chasing
I'm confused, the math does not work. You said Hallowing, then Nov 10-15. If the rut is 28 to 32 days, hallowing is the 31st, Nov 10 would be only 11 days, not the 28 days
Dad Nova Halloween i wasn’t able to hunt and missed a nice buck cruzing my back yard
The rut is longer than 28-32 days. He said that doe come into cycle every 28-32 days until she is breed. The first rut starts around Halloween the peak is the 10-15th November
Great info
pre rut people!!! last week oct first three weeks november. hunt those weeks you won’t go wrong. screw everything else.
6,600 acres of private land to hunt? Wow what an amazing thing
at 1:13 Peter mentions that the study was done on 100 road killed does in January. At 2:50 he breaks it down to the months and included Feb and Mar. If the does died in January how is that possible? I would be interested in reading this study. Anyone have the link to this study?
You are exactly right... Makes me question the validity to a lot of what is being said. However, I know that much of what he is saying is true, but I don't believe that all deer in the same latitude will peak in rut in equal times of the year. Absolutely not true.
@@chadbrantley839 Yeah, there's another factor involved.
Way up in the "inhospitable north" where I'm at the rut does indeed come in like a hammer in early November. Why? Popular theory is too soon and the fawn is born in a winter that will kill it. Too late? We don't see "too lates" very often, and if they are they're not gonna make it through their first winter because they're way too small (the going theory).
Makes just as much sense to me that the rut shutdown happens sooner because food runs out faster (lining up with what he says is true), and that's why we don't see any real deviation in fawn age up here.
Way down south? I've heard many claims the "peak rut" is a "trickle" that lasts almost two months.
Region creates factors for sure, and we don't fully understand yet.
Either way, I think it's a VERY bold claim to say that Day X is THE day to go hunting because of the rut. Especially in a lecture where the speaker admits fully that cold front weather and temperature drops have an insane impact on deer movement and activity.
I always hunted Halloween..Never got a Deer tho, but it is a good time!!
unless it's from other states but Pennsylvania it's in possible.
He right about those days I killed my 11 point on November 17th
I have pictures from western Kentucky light snow in February a buck is breeding a doe 10 ft from my cam
All I can say my granddaddy have advice I still use to this day it's generic but it works once time change hits idk it's a rule of thumb for me and it works well on the same hand I rattled in my first buck on the last day of September I guess we try guessing nature but guess what just hunt hard every doe is differnt
We don’t open till the 16 oh well we miss the rut again lol
holoween to the 15th every yr for me.
Today is October 7th and two days ago I watched a 4 point rubbing a small brush like tree.
They start early sometimes here in N.Y.
00:32 Yep.
Nope
Rock & Roll !
You are thee man!!!! Love your content!
In the south December 15 into January
Yep. MS boy here. I've killed the vast majority of my bucks from Dec 12 - Jan 18. I think only a handful have come in Nov.
@@jakemitchell1671 I'm in my 60's from Vossburg Jasper Clark county's they good deer here u just not going to kill them till them split legs make them stupid
Jersey has best deer hunters that's a first heard such a thing
Come to the south ....
One year I figured out the Halloween thing myself. I had a hot doe lay down below me. Guess what? Halloween is staggered on the calendar. It is not on the REAL same day every year. The doe do not go into heat at the same time every year. The only true rut is those two days when there is a hot doe in the area. A few years ago I was hunting the late shotgun season(January 1st) and two doe came up the power line. A nice eight point came flying out after them. I shot a doe and the buck would not leave until I chased it off. That is what I call the REAL rut. Some of the bigger deer will not even come out of the brush during the daytime anymore. The rut is over hunted and the older deer are adapting. I see deer get a wiff of your scent and look around. The older ones now start checking the trees!
.
The brain sends messages to the brain 🤔
Why does a buck need antlers to breed 🤔
Without antlers the testosterone level drops so much that he cannot breed. We had a deer refuge and if antlers were cut off or dropped the bucks showed no interest in doe's that were in heat.
Everything he just said is common sense to anyone who has hunted. Everything except the NY, NJ guys are the best deer hunters. LMAO
and that hunting over a scrape is worthless....it is not a myth if you do it right.
how can a doe be bread in march whan thay carry for 7 mouths fawns can't be born in late fall and early winter
Donnie seeley yea they can
Oh yeah they can. Promise. Seen it.
Who is this guy?? I really don't know, but This guy comes out with just enough science info to sound smart then sounds like an idiot on other things. Has this guy even killed a buck that wasn't in a pen?
Seriously, it seems like tons of hunting "experts" talk some mad shit when 99% of their experience is on private land and any day of the year they want. Us plebs go out when we can go out and pray the summer scouting was accurate
This dude is crazy...best rut in the country in new york??? Mental note, the rut is different in new york, its better, LMFAO! lost all credibility with that. if yur hunting during the rut, its the rut, no matter where you are in the country.
Louisiana best deer hunters sorry…!
There are a lot of great whitetail hunters all over to your point.
