I've been buying records since I was about 11 years old, and I'm 35 now. CDs, 12" LPs mostly, and almost all of them have been bought to be played a lot. At one point I got more into collecting vinyl specifically, and got more and more concerned about the condition of the records and the sleeves. I stressed about storing them correctly etc. I chased after some rarities and overpaid on a few. I bought into some reissue hype and bought a few records I didn't really need.
I met some hardcore collectors on the way, and at some point I woke up and remembered why I started buying records in the first place. To listen to and enjoy, not pack them away in plastic sleeves and only occasionally fondle them with silk gloves. The craziest thing I learned about, was that some people buy ALL of the different color variations, of any given album that got released/reissued on vinyl. Like 15 examples of the same f'ing album! The whole scene started to feel really weird, and I thought I have to jump off this train real quick, before I turn into one of them.
Yeah I know, to each his own and I guess there's some money to be made in these cards if you say so. What I do know, is that collecting stuff, be it records or cards, can turn into an all consuming obsession pretty easily, and I'm not sure that it's healthy for anybody. I've watched a couple of your videos out of curiosity, and seeing you go through boxes of more unopened boxes, and hearing you talk about this stuff gives me the chills.
You seem like a bright guy, and surely you know something I don't. But I'm glad I'm not in your shoes.. This whole thing seems even crazier than the record collecting scene.

I called the 10 on the front view with it paused at 6:14. The top right corner of the 7 is more rounded over and does not have the sharper cut lines. It is also off-center from right to left, with it shifted to the right. One other potential clue was the white specs speckled in the top of the frame of the card, although that could potentially be dust in the case or on the exterior. Definitely enjoyed the watch though. Been looking into getting P9, and only recently purchased a Timetwister, so definitely a topic I have a growing interest in. I guessed the grade at a 5. I did not catch the ding, but damn I was close. I'll use a table saw to cut off the top if I ever crack a case.

I am proud cause I was still right with basically no knowledge. Only reason was because the other did have tiny little specks or such, vs a basically perfect fact on the other.

Nice vid! BGS is just not consistent enough ik it’s grading. I saw binder dings grade 7-8 on surface, but this is just ridicoulous. Also, a BGS is only worth it if it’s a 8,5 or higher. Anything under that is just a played card. Totally different than PSA where a 7 even can still look very. I do have a really old graded PSA 8 mox pearlfrom back in like 2003 which looks like a solid 9 right now and even maybe a 9,5. Both companies used to be a lot stricter 10 years ago.

Yeah true that mythic is garbage. But between the lands and the ultra high net cards I'd imagine the EV should at least meet the MSRB. At its core though I don't think this will be a repeat of iconic as we're getting a full land cycle and Jace as a chase is way better then Mana Drain. Also the spoilers aren't over yet.

I know this is an investment thing for you, my dude. But it's kinda sad, like a 40 year old Star Wars toy still new in box. Unplayed with, unloved. To encase a playing card in plastic and grade it with a scanning electron microscope... just seems silly. I know the market is real, and the money is real. But the behavior is bizarre. Reminds me of the XKCD about photos of Joe Biden eating a sandwich.
