    Man whoever created this deserves a medal. I've been doing BJJ for over 10 years and I hate the direction it's going. Bunch guys sitting down and scissoring each other playing footsie. This is the perfect answer because it doesnt forbid sitting down or clamping on a leg but you have to do it in more realistic context. Thank you Eddie. I hope you get more sponsors and this becomes the standard. Otherwise we are headed in the same direction as karate.

      Yeah what are you talking about? MMA has existed for 20+ years, if anything this is a devolution. Restricting strikes to the ground? But why? A good striker with good takedown defense would KO any of these guys with ease.

    • @JonSmex
      @JonSmex 7 лет назад +6

      I don´t get it also...if you want to incorporate strikes then why not doing or watching MMA. People do grappling or watch grappling because of grappling....sure a lot of them enjoy MMA as well but that combat grappling is in fact a devolution....I mean there is Shootfighting which allows Stand up strinking and no striking when on the ground only grappling...also restrictive but makes a liitle more sense than NO striking Standup but palm strikes on the ground....and why even palmstrikes...get mma gloves and punch...anyhow it doesn´t make sense either way

    • @tlew1588
      @tlew1588 7 лет назад +32

      haitianxu He said the martial arts are evolving. Not the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. It's a combat form of Jiu-Jitsu which hasn't existed until now. The UFC still exists. Stop being a tool

    • @tlew1588
      @tlew1588 7 лет назад +24

      JonSmex They don't want the fights to be all about strikes. It's Jiu-Jitsu with the plus of strikes. Many Jiu-Jitsu holds leave the grappler open to strikes. This makes the whole sport more challenging. Balancing between grapples and defense, attacks and slips.

    This is the direction BJJ needed to go in, in order to avoid losing it's real life self defense application. Striking is just another weapon, it's not the antithesis of grappling, and seeing BJJ guys embracing it like this is beyond cool. I can't wait to see where this goes.
    Edit. Palm strikes with a gi would be interesting too.

    • @joellozada9433
      @joellozada9433 2 года назад

      Agreed brings more of a real world element to it. Like just jujitsu as a sport is cool, but I feel this is more what you would see in the streets. Jujitsu is good if you can transition to it when it’s needed it. First focus is the takedown then controlling the person so you can smack them up. But is real life I don’t want to fight from the floor if you don’t have too. If anything you should do everything you can to not go to the floor. I learned this when I wrestled. It’s a great sport, but when I actually had to use it for the most part it’s would be against multiple attacker so it has be about throwing everyone then doing double or singles legs unless you can go into a lift so you can do some really damage.

    • @KarimBoctorAwad

      IBJJF just needs to change their rules. Pulling guard should be a free two points for the opponent as a 'takedown' so you don't get bullshit like the Miyao brothers beating people way bigger than themselves because they can pull guard without consequence. With strikes, ground and pound is the consequence of pulling guard, so without strikes the consequence of pulling guard should at least be free points for the opponent to give them a lead.

    This is great! Thanks Eddie. Hope to see this get bigger. If Freestyle Judo would add this (including stand up slaps), it would break out. You could have this in judo where you have to start with a throw/take down, no guard pull, and where you have limited time on the ground before you are stood back up.

    I hope this remains the real future of jujitsu there too many gimmicks in modern jujitsu which strikes punish immediately. if a slap can reliably stop a technique it should not be taught in the art. The entire origin of tenth planet - a dedicated rubber-guard no-gi jujitsu was meant to resolve the problem of ground and pound. This is the tenth-planet I want to see evolve. I feel the death squad has put things into a bad direction. Jujitsu should remain the truth of self defense. I really really dislike points, it’s made jujitsu accessible that’s great, but it’s taught bad habits for combat as removing strikes entirely has. All the old Gracie demos and the ufc that made jujitsu famous were vale tudo, it’s right we get back to that somehow. May it be the slap heard round the martial arts world.

    • @tombambo9435
      @tombambo9435 6 лет назад +15

      Some people don’t want to combat. Some people just want jiu jitsu and to have fun with what they can do without getting hit. Not everybody wants to compete and get smacked or punched in the face. And even with all these sport implications, an average blue belt is still far better off in a self defense situation than someone who doesn’t train.

    The true gracie method is where it's at. Allowing strikes is absolutely the original method. It's how we train all day long. Sure rolling is great but once you put on the 4oz'ers that's when the art of jiu jitsu really shines. Plus, why train in BJJ if you're not going to simulate a real fight scenario? If your camp or academy isn't allowing strikes, you're not getting the right training.
    Love Combat jits. This is where it's at.

    • @MegaHeelhook
      @MegaHeelhook 5 лет назад +5

      I agree, but if they allowed slams and throws, jiu jitsu wizards with their funky guard pulls would get obliterated against a wrestler, it's falsifying the fact with that stupid rule of no slams that somehow the jiu jitsu fighter gets the advantage even though he gets thrown across the room, ridiculous.

    • @yaboi-km2qn
      @yaboi-km2qn 4 года назад +6

      Slams should be allowed cause they are legitimate. Pulling guard really pisses me off cause if your whole martial art is ground fighting and you can’t take a guy down then it’s useless. And why would you just walk into a guy’s guard if that’s where he wants to be? I’d just round backwards in circles and there’d be nothing he could do but butt scoot like a dog with an itchy arse whole.

    • @vitorfogaco6559

      slams should be very clearly allowed and a huge part of the game, as it is now, even in mma it's kind of a gray area and it's kind of a unspoken rule to not really do them , so no one trains for them and everyone just kinda ignores that they're there. that's why Rose got her cute lil head hurt that shit broke my heart so bad.
