Oh NO! Yet another one of my instruments that I've had in storage for 15 years that might need a new battery. Thanks for the reminder so I can allocate time to change the battery before assuming that the SPD-20 will be ready to go when I need it (which is soon).

I'm attempting to open my SPD-8, whose case seems to be very similar, but I'm having a lot of resistance pulling the back off and don't want to break it! My battery is probably fine but I will check it when open and my goal is to modify the circuitry (pad breakouts and USB adapter) as well as paint the case. My question: does one have to put considerable force to pull the back from the unit?
Yes, all externally visible screws have been removed and I seem to have separation of case all around between 5 -15mm on any given side (less usually on the rear side), it seems there is some clip holding the case together in the middle rear, but nothing visibly apparently peaking through the separation.
Appreciate anyone's comment/assistance!
Not 100% sure but I think there's 2 plasic clips on top left and right of the unit. Give it a gentle pry with a small flathead screw driver. Let me know how it goes. Maybe a plastic credit card would be better to unclip.

Hello, something strange happens with my octapad, I program it, save it, and then next day it's back to normal, do you think it is because of the battery? Or what do you think it is?
Most likely the battery. You should check it with a mutlimeter. Or just replace it.

You will need to open the unit, remove all the piezo sensor and I don't recall any screws. Let me know how it goes.
How to change 8pad on roland spd20
You can replace the Piezo fairly easily, see 3:50 of the video. There are 2 solder on each piezo, make sure you solder them the same way.

Make sure your power supply is the right one. It is supposed to be 12V AC (this allows to make the +5V , 0V and -5V.)

A CR2032 is usually 3,3V and considered dead or to be replaced when it reach something like 2.8 - 2.7V

From what I red, this message could occur if you strike a pad while turning on the power. If you press any button, the display error should disappear. If it doesn't disappear, I guess there is a defective pad (piezo).

A factory reset would probably delete all your patches. Make sure they are saved somewhere before doing so.
