  • Today, we'll take a look at a USB Rechargeable light that's way brighter than it has any right to be, the Thrunite TC20. If you want one, and want to support the channel, here's a link to buy: amzn.to/2JxnZT1

    You get dislikes when flashlights are shown what they can do in a large and dark place. It's like reviewing a tv that isn't connected to anything so nothing is on the screen.

    Just received this torch yesterday - first thing i noticed is that doesn't have a ramp mode - like my Thrunite TN36 does - it only has 2 settings effectively, medium and max - the max setting without Turbo mode is 1800 lumens - which is really quite low and well below the max 3800 lumens in Turbo mode. In my view the driver either needs another level to bring it up to at least 2,500 lumens or ramp mode so you can set the level yourself - I like my custom settings with ramp mode around 75% of Turbo - which in this case would be around 2,700 lumens. So absent this there is a huge gap between 1800 lumens max setting and Turbo at 3,800. Even at Turbo setting, I find that the Convoy M3 at almost a third of the price is quite a bit brighter. So while its a good looking and well made torch - its missing these basic functions, so its going back to Amazon - for someone else to purchase who doesn't mind or care about such obvious flaws.

    ANYBODY: Bought this light after Nick's vid. and one other...Question: Can I recharge the Batt after a partial use, will it harm the battery to charge a partially depleted state to recharge????????????

    • @payrocoin
      @payrocoin 6 лет назад +1

      You can do that if you wish but it really is unnecessary. This light will let you know when it needs to be recharged. Keep in mind that most rechargeable batteries have a 500 - 1,000 cycle recharge life. So, to answer your question, no, it won't harm the battery in terms of its operation, but it might decrease its recharge lifespan a bit quicker than normal. If you want my opinion, I would just treat it like you would a smartphone. You wouldn't recharge a smartphone after every partial use, right? Once the red light comes on in the power button of the light then just plug it in. Same way your smartphone will alert you at 20% - 15% of its remaining battery life.
      One thing that Nick pointed out that is probably the most important feature of this light is that you CAN use it (from firefly to medium mode) while it is being charged. I can't begin to state how important that feature is, and it is one of the reasons why this light is so highly recommended. So if you are worried about using this light when it doesn't have enough charge then all you need to do is plug it into a USB power bank or other charging source and you'll have almost 400 lumens for as long as the charging source can provide power.
      I hope this helped, and congratulations on buying a great light. I bought the neutral white version myself.

    You can buy adaptors that will turn a 18650 into a 26650 but you won't get that long of run time. Be worth getting so you can use that way in an emergency.

    Is it USB-C though? Why are people still selling micro USB devices?

    • @NickShabazz

      USB-C is definitely better, but it's kind of a hellscape of incompatibility right now. These lights do need to be USB-C PD though.

    I agree with you re USB recharge except for one thing. During emergency situations, where power may be out from storms, man-made situations (read between the lines!), whatever - it may be challenging to find a way to do a USB recharge.

    Nick nice review and I agree with some of the things I wish Thrunite would do like going from low mode to high just pressing the button like on the neutron 2c which I love. But I did order this TC20 as I really like having a nice small big light for camping etc.

    You want a pocket bright light? Foursevens Mini Turbo MK II. Get the Foursevens high output RCR123A battery. Get them from Prometheus while you can. Not much bigger than the battery it takes. You truly get 1000 Lumens with the rechargeable battery. Great powerful pocket light!

    I've had this light for a while and I think you nailed the review. Great light to leave in the car or kicking around the house. It is portable, but it's just bulky and heavy enough that you will think twice unless you anticipate needing huge output for a long time. I'd love to see a version with continuously variable output and without the green tint!

    Nick,
    Unfortunately, the tint shift is a manufacturer issue. It is something CREE would need to rectify. The XHP LEDs are notorious for having horrible tint shift, especially in their neutral white versions. I bought an Eagtac TX3G Pro a few months ago but had to send it back because the tint shift was unbearable. It really sucked to send it back because it was a damn good light but the horrible tint shift and beam pattern were just unbearable to me.
    It's funny you bring up the tint shift because the cool white tint of this light is actually more impressive than the neutral white. I bought both versions (cool white for a friend and neutral for me) and the cool white actually looked better to me. And mind you, I also prefer neutral white more than cool white. I think the Eagtac you showed in this video has an MT-G2 LED and if you want my opinion, that LED is probably THE best neutral white LED that CREE has ever made. They should try to make an MT-G3 or something that improves upon the efficiency and output of that series of LED while maintaining its awesome tint color.

    Why do the best reviewers have torn up fingers? Either a band aid or gloves. Is this a dangerous profession?

  • @tommuller9639
    @tommuller9639 6 лет назад

    Yes, it is the best medium size light I own - good universal throw/flood ratio, long runtime, small for a 26650 and VERY bright.
    But like every high performance light it steps down from turbo to high (after 3-5 min., depending on the forum you read... But you can pump it up again after a little cooling).
    Otherwise it would melt - the light or your hands or both.
    Here is a runtime test (in German):

    That is a really nice flashlight... I have several Olights, which I love, but I can't find my charging dock. So, I have to charge my batteries externally... Love the micro USB charger... Great price... Good step-up in lumens... Interesting that they totally copied Olight's switch interface... As for the color... Not sure why you harp on the color... What difference does it make if you are in the dark? Can you see white, green, purple, yellow, silver, any better if you have no light? Black is fine... It is actually a protective finish similar to what they use on firearms...
    I'm a hypocrite because the flashlight I carry everyday is copper... However... I do wish someone would make a flashlight that you CAN find in the dark... Tritium tubes maybe... or use a tiny amount of power to light up a ring around the flashlight somewhere...

      The new Olight Marauder has a nice feature of a glowing switch which is motion activated, and a bit of glow-in-the-dark material around the lens, which makes the light visible for a while after activation.

      The old Neutron had this UI 4 years ago. I don't know which company did it first, but several lights have essentially this UI now.
      Color matters, and I harp on it a lot more than Nick does. Any light is better than no light, but we're reviewers and addressing details the average person might not have noticed otherwise is a significant part of the gig. Color vividness and accuracy can be the difference between a stick and a snake.

    hmm... thrunite 130 minute on turbo? really doubt it.. the light still step down.. but in a more gradual manner unnoticeable to human perception.. it still a glass cannon.. putting out 4000++ at startup then 30s to 3800 and down.. same as thrunite other model...

    • @patricj951
      @patricj951 4 года назад

      You are correct. Not even high mode is available for 130min, but around 90min.
      That's still very good performance. And the difference is not that huge between 1800 and 3800lumen. I hardly ever use my TC20 at turbomode.
      TC20 is one of my favorite lights, recommended!
