WOW Matthias, your dad was one hell of a craftsmen! When you get older, you will be too, just like your dad. Seriously, thanks for sharing these cabin videos, they are some of my favorite for some reason. I guess because it shows what one can achieve with hard work. I lost my dad in 2012 and I miss him dearly.
My father passed away a few years ago and I find that it's things like these that bring a smile to my face. Here your father is, still opening and closing doors with his beautiful design. Tangible proof that his mind is still having an effect on the world.
Your father was brilliant. Must have been great to grow up with him. My grandfather was a carpenter and he built many homes that we can see to this day.
I'm truly envious. You have inherited a lot of your dad's ingenuity and you have advanced it forward. My uncle was like your dad as he built cabins up in Iron Mountain Michigan off of a river. He was a hunter/fisherman guide and sold Christmas trees in Chicago. Great job!
This is insane, you and your dad are true master woodworkers! I’ve been subscribed for quite a few years but haven’t run into this video and I say hands down you two are the most amazing builders I’ve ever seen. Minimal tooling and you can literally build anything you want in the shop. I’m at a loss of words to describe how blown away I am of the talent you two have!
I can see where you got your creative ways. You dad was a super creative guy. I'm sure you had a great childhood. It's nice that you are so proud of your fathers work.
I really enjoy your videos. I am new to wood working and I've already learned so much from your videos. It's a privilege to watch you and your dad's craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Matthias. Absolutely charming to see all those door mechanisms. Such creativity and ingenuity. And wonderful that those cottages are still standing. They should be heritage listed :)
Your Dad was a very inventive man, Matthias, I enjoyed seeing all those chunky handles and mechanisms. The new family addition must be taking it out of you, you seem to have lost weight!
im building a playhouse for my daughter and found your video just at the right time! great tour! now time to rewind, pause and reverse engineer how some of these were put together. thanks for the inspiration!
These door knobs and hinges are quite extraordinare!! Your dad was very smart to make everything out of that material he can get from the trees around the camp. I really enjoy your videos.
How cool is it to have so much around you from your Dad. Do you have any videos of him working or talking with you? Now I can see where you get you skills from. Very nice. This was one of your best videos.
How many wonderful different latches! So you are not the only genius in your family...Thank for sharing, they are a great source of inspiration for me!
Really like these door handles, I remembered and looked up this video after 7 years to consider what to fit to the doors of my new shed / woodworking shop.
5/23/2019 USA Grandpa Bill: Matthias, this was delightful. Thank you. Your dad really was a clever and resourceful man. It is easier to see where you get yours from. You grew up in a truly enriched environment, and now you are sharing with us some of the treasures.
myrna was a Carpenter for 40 years before he retired it has always amazed me at how his mind works... I remember as a child being his laborer in the summer and hating it today iam so thankful he taught me everything he did. it's extremely gratifying to be able to do your own work and repairs on your home as always neat video.
my dad died recently died and your videos really help. it's good to see that your family uses their brains. you are one of my role models as you think outside of the box in all your builds. your dad's very smart too.
for kitchen cabinets, i have seen those type in cabinet made by my wife's grandfather. he is also a carpenter. but for door knobs, those are all amazing. thank you for the video.
I lost my Dad in 89, he was always making wooden latches, doors and hinges. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.He always tried to make things, like his father before him. I just tinker with wood and work on passenger elevators for a living
In our Walmart world we live in today, this video is an inspiration. The guests that stayed there over the years I'm sure, were attracted to the charm of the place. I too grew up in a small cottage resort (Summers)
Very cool! Love how your father was always tweaking the designs, real character in those properties. Can definitely see where you got your ingenuity from!
I love amogla camp. Getting a guided tour through all the cottages was a treat. And the door latches are phantastic with their little variations. Some desings are based on or are by coincidence similar to the way these things were done centuries ago.
I would love to have met and seen you dad work in his workshop. But I see a lot of him in you and that has been and is my greatest pleasure! Thanks Matthias!!
Your father had some great ideas. I like your vids where you show his craftsmanship. Dads seem to know how to build or fix anything. I should know I work with father every day and love the experienced knowledge
Fantastic! I've been fascinated with the wooden hardware I see you make on your builds and wondered what would inspire you to do so. Now I know! What a beautiful legacy he's left.
Obviously, your Dad was a very interesting, creative & ingenious man. So I guess that the saying "The Apple Does Not Fall Far From The Tree", really applies here..... :) Great video....Steve
That was inspiring! What a brilliant range of ideas for getting away from the horrible cheap-looking but expensive modern trashy handles of today. We are just re-renovating our farmhouse after 20 years of constant use and these are just perfect solutions to our door furniture problems. I am about to build a dresser too for the kitchen so the wooden hinges are a timely reminder too. Thanks for uploading! All the very best from Normandie, Andy
These are so impressive. I live in a house built in the 1780s, and the previous owner built some very simple wooden latches for some of the doors that are modeled after door latches from an old, historic courthouse in a nearby town.
Now we can see where you got your engineering smarts and the propensity to build all kinds of mechanical things out of wood. Great tribute to your father.
aYour dad was extremely gifted. It's great that you have carried on that tradition ..... and further! I like the comment that it wouldn't occur to your dad to buy a spring. The depression generation were amazingly frugal.
It is quite amazing how the house doesn't ever creak, there are newer modern homes that creak when they are walked in and they are made out of brick and metal, your father must of been a master woodworker, great to see old wooden housing still existing, it is very cool. Keep up the good work.
Nice cut at 1:24... why did you have to cut there? It's pretty subtle. Excellent work by your Dad; love to see the older Wandel's work. Love the video... I love all of them really!
This is such a culture shock. I live in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and I sleep with a huge knife by my side. The idea of relying on wood latches is totally out of my world.
I have watched your videos for A long time and have not posted anything but on this one I have too. The best video I have seen yet your dad was awesome.
Thank you so much for showing us these amazing latches etc. It would be really cool to take one apart just to see the inner workings of the springs and mechanisms. It certainly makes for a good demonstration of fine craftsmanship. It's sad that such simple devices are not used more often and the modern stuff just breaks down so they replace it and throw the broken one "away"!
Matthias it appears that your dad was quite the designer and woodworker! The apple (You) did not fall fast from the tree. Keep up all the great builds and video's your a legend!
I like it, back to basic stuff that still has a use for those who to go rustic! I would have no problem going to these simple latches in a cabin or out building! Thanks for showing us!
i build a cabin with my dad and it is always amazing to see, that what he "invented" instead of using shelf bought hardware still works well today! ,respect for the crafts man
My favorite quote from this video, "to go and buy springs would have never occurred to him". Its unfortunate that there are so few people left in the world who have that mindset of recognizing a problem and inventing a solution for it, instead of going out and buying one. Your dad was a special man.
Your dad was quite an ingenious man and certainly extremely gifted in his methods of woodworking! Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree!
Matthais, make that three.
And Matthias is a chip off the old block! I'm sure Dad was very proud!
Yup, 100%
Б
I never thought I would ever watch a whole video on door knobs. Somehow this was fascinating!
kind of new to the channel and i now see why you became a woodworker.. your dad had some good skills....
Go check out the tour of his dad's old shop, really fantastic to see.
sure will thanks...
i demand a lin
WOW Matthias, your dad was one hell of a craftsmen! When you get older, you will be too, just like your dad.

rochat ha ha I laughed when he said that because I didn't believe Matthias would buy springs either!
This is insane, you and your dad are true master woodworkers! Every time you get to show this doorknobs, i get very much inspired, mechanics and wood. it is so beautiful. thanks for sharing that.
These cottages, cabins, houses whatever you like to call them are all so beautiful
I can see where you got your creative ways. You dad was a super creative guy. I'm sure you had a great childhood. It's nice that you are so proud of your fathers work.
He makes everything so interesting, next video he'll make paint drying fun to watch!
When someone is passionate about what they do, even drying paint can be interesting :)
tiporari True! :D
I bet the color would be Mathias Green paint.
+Anthony Browning hahahaha. so true.
+Anthony Browning I'm waiting for the big box stores to start carrying Matthias green.
Your Dad's workmanship is fantastic, I love those designs. I can see where you get your work working and problem solving talent from.
I really enjoy your videos. I am new to wood working and I've already learned so much from your videos. It's a privilege to watch you and your dad's craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.
What a wonderful tribute to your father !!!Almost made me cry.
Thanks Matthias. Absolutely charming to see all those door mechanisms. Such creativity and ingenuity. And wonderful that those cottages are still standing. They should be heritage listed :)
You're dad was one creative dude. And what a wonderful place to have spent time at. Very cool.

Thanks for cataloging your work as well as your dad's. Truly inspirational.
Your dad seems like he was a fine craftsman. Thanks for showing is around.
These door knobs and hinges are quite extraordinare!! Your dad was very smart to make everything out of that material he can get from the trees around the camp. I really enjoy your videos.
I honestly think that in my future home, I'll make all the door knobs and handles after watching this! It's given ideas of my own!
How cool is it to have so much around you from your Dad. Do you have any videos of him working or talking with you? Now I can see where you get you skills from. Very nice. This was one of your best videos.
i dont think he dose
He has pictures on his website, but that's all I think
That or inadequate.
wobbly sauce What do you mean by that?
Pressure to do more.
Your Dad was a very skilled craftsman. Amazing work and beautiful as well.
How many wonderful different latches! So you are not the only genius in your family...Thank for sharing, they are a great source of inspiration for me!
Really like these door handles, I remembered and looked up this video after 7 years to consider what to fit to the doors of my new shed / woodworking shop.
wow, time flies, didn't realize that was 7 years ago

Your Dad was a talented man such beauty and simplicity with the locks .

These devices are sooo soo Wandel. I can see the same sort of innovation and wooden mechanical devices in Matthias's work
These seem to be so satisfying to operate. Even the noises are great!
In our Walmart world we live in today, this video is an inspiration. The guests that stayed there over the years I'm sure, were attracted to the charm of the place. I too grew up in a small cottage resort (Summers)
This was surprisingly fascinating to watch, thanks for taking time to make it Matthias.
Thank you Matthias for the tour, that was really very interesting I really liked the variety of different designs!
Your Dad was Awesome. I'm a locksmith and I love those latches. Ingenious designs.
Wonderful update. I have loved all the videos you have done on how your Dad and family built the camp and maintained it.
"you'll just have to make your own" and Pintrest cried in terror.
Your father was a great mentor. Very beautiful work. I love the wooden hinges.
Just the amount of work that would go into these is mind boggling.
These latches and hinges really add character to the cottages. Thanks for sharing.
I think your dad was very talented, got to love the work he put in to making them, Kyle from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪
That was inspiring! What a brilliant range of ideas for getting away from the horrible cheap-looking but expensive modern trashy handles of today. Your dad did some nice work. Nice thing about the wooden latches they don't freeze in the winter, and become useless.
These are so impressive. I live in a house built in the 1780s, and the previous owner built some very simple wooden latches for some of the doors that are modeled after door latches from an old, historic courthouse in a nearby town.
I hope you re-open the camp someday. Seems like a lovely place to stay for a week or so.
This is the second it third time watching this video for me. I absolutely love these latches/knobs etc. The wooden hinges are beautiful.
The door handles are genius. I really like the houses too... The touch of German traditional design. Really cool!!!
Now we can see where you got your engineering smarts and the propensity to build all kinds of mechanical things out of wood. Great tribute to your father.
Awesome video. I love the ingenuity and individuality your father put into these cottages.
Interesting seeing your Dads work. It is obvious how much his work has influenced yours.
what a lovely place. all the cottages look so cozy. and one with the lever at 1:28 is my favorite cause its like a gear stick
aYour dad was extremely gifted. It's great that you have carried on that tradition ..... and further! I like the comment that it wouldn't occur to your dad to buy a spring. The depression generation were amazingly frugal.

This was really great to see, Matthias! Thanks for sharing! Lots of ideas and inspiration here.
Your dad was a very creative man . Thanks for charing his skills with us.
Nice cut at 1:24... why did you have to cut there? It's pretty subtle. Excellent work by your Dad; love to see the older Wandel's work. Love the video... I love all of them really!
Lock didn't budge right away
Aha! Thx for the answer
i always thought my dad was a pretty smart guy. i still do but you have to appreciate the thought your dad put into the latches.
Wow, the amount of craftsmanship in those cabins is unbelievable. We can see where Mathias got his skills from. 🙂
INGENIOUS - the original woodcraft, the ENCYCOPLEDIA of wooden door latches, and door locks - great legacy left to us all by previous generations.
An inventive man, for sure. It must be his favourite part, to design wooden machines
You are probably my favorite youtube channel. I hope my channel gets big enough on day that I can depend on it to keep my hobbies going.
AMAZING!! Lovely how you are showcasing your dad's magnificent work!!
Matthias it appears that your dad was quite the designer and woodworker! The apple (You) did not fall fast from the tree. Keep up all the great builds and video's your a legend!
Nice tribute to your dad. Thanks for sharing.
So cool! Love how they all seem to have small variations.
Wow, not only wooden locks, its wooden everything. The whole place is amazing. Great video 👌
I see when it comes to great workmanship the "apple didn't fall far from the tree"! Keep the great videos coming.
I like it, back to basic stuff that still has a use for those who to go rustic! I would have no problem going to these simple latches in a cabin or out building!
Thanks for showing us!
Wow! Those were incredibly imaginative. Thanks for sharing.
You make the coolest wood based channel on RUclips.
I always get excited when I see a new video from Matthias. I love your videos and projects. Thank you for being so awesome.
I made my own wooden latch for the gate on our privacy fence. It works great and becomes a discussion topic anytime someone new comes over.
These are beautiful wood working and the cottages are awesome.
The Wandel family sure does have some engineering skills. I love this video. Super cool door hardware.
Lucky to have him as your dad , and he would feel the same for your great timber work. Good stuff.
dad's and grand dad's....ultimate heroes and source of inspiration.
i build a cabin with my dad and it is always amazing to see, that what he "invented" instead of using shelf bought hardware still works well today! ,respect for the crafts man
My favorite quote from this video, "to go and buy springs would have never occurred to him". Its unfortunate that there are so few people left in the world who have that mindset of recognizing a problem and inventing a solution for it, instead of going out and buying one. what great memories of visits to your parents place...truly amazing people.
Why are these videos so relaxing.
Very cool! Thanks for the video. Your family's heritage of craftsmanship is incredible.
I recognise that style of deck from the deck repair video! Good to see most of them still as good as new :)
Love the creative mind at work. Hope to build a few for myself. Don't need them, just want to build them and appreciate the ingenuity.
Those are amazing builds. Thanks for sharing the creativity that your dad did wth those door knobs and hinges.
I know you've previously said the camp isn't publically open anymore but I'm glad it seems to be getting some private use. :)
wow your dad was a amazing carpenter. I would love to see a tutorial on how to build a wooden door knob. thanks for sharing!
take care
