@@michaelhunt739 Yep, look at his movements. Much smoother, quicker, had more fast twitch in him. I don't buy that he got much more skilled later in his career. Maybe he changed his style, but he was much slower than this by 2014/2015 and on.

GGG’s best era was when he’s fighting other Slavs wearing the default Adidas trunks from Fight Night. He barely made it to the big stage and US audiences towards the peak of of his prime, unfortunately. Dude was already in his 30’s when he fought on HBO for the first time.
Interesting that at this early stage in his pro career, GGG's defensive footwork and head movements are much more noticeable. Now they're more subtle and leave him in a postion to counterattack quickly. Some say that now he's easy to hit; not so: he's very difficult to hit with heavy punches.
I totally agree. I don't have any other fighter so economical and acurate in his footwork and head and body movements - now more than ever. Great great fighter, always delighting to watch at fight. May be Kovalev could be compared ?
@@Wally-pu2hh I wouldn't say Kovalev at his best (that means some years ago ;) ) slaps nor is sloppy. He looks to me having a very accurate footwork and pretty good punching power (cf his ko ratio). But not on the same level as GGG, actually.

Gennady seems to just coast along until he hurts his opponents and then he steps up a gear and it's in for the kill. His punches don't appear to be all that hard but they obviously are.
REF did a great job of keeping them fighting. I hate how American REFs allow fighters to hang on each other during the rounds. Make them fight the whole time.

he was an olympic boxer afterall, his trainer doesn't cultivate this talent, and when he changed trainer, its too late.
