What a shame that we can no longer mine and burn coal (like other countries such as China and even Germany) especially at this time when we are struggling to provide electrical energy without the need to rely on our neighbours. There's still a great deal down there waiting for us to come and get it.
Yes it was all quick to dissappear aswell my whole childhood was around mining and everywhere I looked I could see pitheads turning and miners walking home after the shifts in they donkey jackets.... NCB signs were everywhere..... People were different and more proud....... Then as the 80's closed to an end it all disappeared...... And the pits were just demolished ruins overnight replaced with factories and industrial estates....... Its hard to imagine what the world was like anymore
