- Today on JD Cars we tackle the installation of new LED DRL Headlights on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Not one person has made a video on the installation of LED DRL Headlights on a pre 2012 Grand Cherokee... so here it is! This installation may appear challenging due to the wiring, but it truly is not that complicated. If you are patient anyone can complete this DIY, with minimal tools, in a couple hours. I know this video is 3 years old but where did you get these headlights? Trying to switch out my 2014 headlights.
I also want to switch ou my 2014 headlights and the links in the video refers to a website where this headlights are not available. There s only stock headlights with led.
Can the computer box be mounted on these highlights 🤔🤔🤔

This video is a prime example of why i never buy cars that have been modified. Even something as simple as a hack job with the wiring can significantly screw up the modern electrical system of a car over time. There is no chance that this install didn’t result in issues later down the line with corrosion and/or poor connections. Live and learn, I guess

I’ve considered it, but the risky part is resealing the headlight

I honestly do not understand all that wiring work that you do I just installed the same in headlights in my Grand Cheeokee 2012 and I did not have to do any of that you just put off the old ones put the new ones and connect and that was it
That's because this is a 2011
and with that ? there is no difference in the headlights of a Grand Cherokee year 2011-2012 2013
Melvin Campos, did you have any issues with moisture in your new lights? They say it’s an issue with the upgrades.
it is advisable before installing them to put a layer of transparent silicone against water on the edges to avoid the filtration of moisture, I did it and had no problems in heavy rain

What type were the originals? The video doesn’t really clarify what you started with.
Originals were stock halogen headlights with no DRL

How did you get the HID Bi-xenons to fit? Website says its not compatible with overland. I have exact same jeep as you
A lot of the times it says it’s not compatible because years are off or something but to my knowledge the mounting is the same throughout the years of the WK2 but do your own research I’m not 100% but sometimes it just takes a little modification and usually can be done or if the connectors are the same usually it’ll work as long as it mounts

To add to this comment. i seen some on ebay for 300$ that are “led headlights” and then some for 700$ that are “hid headlights” but they look exactly the same. Will the 300$ ones work for factory hid models😅

There are adjustment screws/knobs on the top/back of the headlight. It’s difficult to explain where and how to access them - try to find a video or forum post with pictures

Theoretically yes - there might be slight variations in wiring
CanadianDucks These headlights are not made for at wk2 and do have the same wiring. Check out Mhfautolighting for wk2 headlights. They carry both OEM and after market headlights.

Awesome job!! I plan on doing this to my 2012 WK2 JGC but mine is not equipped with DRL☹ How will I get them to turn on during the day, instead of running a switch directly to the fuse box? Any info would be greatly appreciated thx!
Hmm... well this car didn't have DRL originally, but we tapped into a power source.
@@JDCarsChannel So to be clear, you ran that 12g orange wire directly to the parking light wire for the DRL light? In other words you have to turn on your parking lights to give it that DRL look? Thx for your response 💪🏼

The headlights I bought, in the link you have down below, doesn’t have the connector for the grey circle looking cable.

I have the xenon lamps on my GC overland 2011 (too expensive to replace) Would this upgrade fit?
What about the auto level, does it still work after the upgrade?
I am wondering this myself, did you end up trying them out? It sure looks like this overland in the video had the Bi-Xenon HID Headlamps as well. So I am assuming they would fit, I will contact the Ebay seller to confirm this.

Hi! Loved the video... quick question. Just got a 2018 Grand Cherokee and have been contacting tons of shops trying to get that same headlight installed. Most of the shops just say that I would have purchase a trackhawk headlight ($3k) and have it modified to fit in my car. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you so much!
I bet if you purchase these lights and bring them to a local shop you can get a less expensive quote. Feel free to provide them with this video for reference.

The lighting is very bright. Try an LED bar if you need more light.

Not positive... it probably would work if the Laredo has the same style headlights. These bulbs should work.

ANY REASON YOU'RE USING THE WRONG GAUGE WIRE ON A DEMO VIDEO? DO IT RIGHT OR NOT AT ALL!!
Lmao. Larger gauge wire will not negatively affect the lights. Only too small gauge wire would impact the lights.
Why is the DRL wiring not working for me?
Tough to say. I would recommend double checking all connections with a voltmeter.

What a pain just to get to the bulbs!
No... You can easily change the bulbs in the passenger side by reaching in... And all you have to do on the driver side is remove the air filter box... Literally takes not even 10 minutes and not a single bolt needs removed lol I just did it on the ol ladies 2012 overland summit..... The fog lights are a much bigger pain in the ass to get to... But the only reason they had to remove the entire bumper was to remove the housings.. You can literally access every bulb on the headlights right through the hood and the fogs from a gap they left in the wheels wheels by turning the wheels in

The ones he swapped out are indeed he factory HID headlights. The grand Cherokee overland for that year came with HIDs

The module comes with the headlight. I'm not familiar with the process on a Compass.

So I bought those from the link in your description, took the bumper out, only to find out that one connector is different. I have a 2011 GC Laredo, but it doesn’t have the gray connector that you showed in the video. Also, how many connectors do you have on your old headlight? Please reply ASAP or I’ll have to go to school without a bumper and the left headlight xD
I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t own this Jeep and I rarely work on it so I’m not too familiar with the wiring setup. I do know the wiring can be confusing..

SCHN4CK unfortunately it won’t work if you don’t have xenon from factory or the projects I had to get eBay headlights different ones , they wiring is very different so it wouldn’t work sadly

Hello JD. I installed the lights exactly like you recommended. However, I have run into a glitch. It's been about a month since install and my left head light has worked fine and have had a problem. When I turn on the headlights, the LED turns off. When I turn on the indicator, the LED turns off. This problem happened when I first installed them and went away for about 2 weeks only to return last week Any idea what to be causing this issues? Please help.

May I suggest switching the positive and the negative for DRL.

Where did the ground wire come from/go to that you screwed to the top headlight screw at the end of the video?
