    This applies to distance running also. I tell my athletes to imagine running between two narrow waist-height hedges. Keeps them tall and focused down the track.

    There is lots wrong, including his knees (not getting them up nor covering much distance) and he’s coming up too quickly, it appears from this angle. The arms are a huge part, because they set the tone for the entire race when wrong here. Great advice!

      Up too quickly is the biggest issue here.

    • @stevie586
      @stevie586 Год назад

      @@jakemccoy waaaaay too quickly. But you know what(?), I’m from a generation where we didn’t even know what a drive phase was. Our old world record holders from back then never used it. And here we are today, breaking their records, when we would have NEVER come close to them in a real race given all equal circumstances!
      As an older track champion who feels I could probably run faster today based upon my knowledge alone, it’s amazing to see all the little things we today see as “obvious” that weren’t even previously known, then, looking at athlete from their world countries with potential, analyzing their talent, and seeing they could kick our asses if they had our technology, and knowledge. I have to keep reminding myself my black American privilege, despite living in a country where lowly, racist whites keep attempting to condescend us when we know we have far surpassed them with our actual credentials.
      My point, is, these folks are not slackers…we just don’t come from an environment where the completion is on an equal plane. If we all know the same things and have the same resources, we could see fair competition. This guy clearly has no clue what he’s doing, and it’s not only because of his skin color…he just has no idea what he’s doing, and I hope he becomes well educated and is provided the resources of the best in the business one day.

      @@jaycollett2853 incorrect. There is a sweet spot between stride length and frequency for every athlete. Based on this acceleration, explosiveness and foot speed, I can see that he would have a more optimal start of he extended his first step just a bit more. As a Cross Country and long distance runner and the Team Captain for both I've helped some of our athletes adjust their form, first thing I see is crossing and tight hands, probably in correspondence. They need to NOT hold their hands in fists, it tightens up muscles in your arms and often leads to your arms crossing your chest, which (especially with longer races simply with duration) wastes energy by bouncing your body side to side.
