This is special for several reasons not the least of which is the spectacular performance. Experienced fans are aware that she was just recovering from a bout with Pneumonia and had been advised to cancel. But, true to her dedication, she refused to disappoint her fans, and came up with this stunning performance. You may know this already, but she is a Gospel Singer from her roots, and this is a statement from her heart. She does her own musical arrangements for her live stage appearances including the musical adaptation, the chorus and orchestra, the staging and lighting. She speaks Korean and English fluently, and reads French and Greek. She learned to speak American English watching Disney movies and listening to Pop music. She is also the author of four novels and lectures on Music and Voice at University. There is more, so I hope you continue your trek through Sohyang's World.

She was just getting over pneumonia. Her Dr. Told her not to perform but as you can see , she did amazing. SoHyang has a,background in Gospel music and is a devout Christian.
This Master Class performance from the PHENOMENAL So Hyang is even more impressive given the fact that she IS NOT well here. Some time prior to this event, So Hyang was released from the hospital, still recovering from her latest bout with severe pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2020). At the same time, she had been experiencing vocal cord issues. Her doctors advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, she believed her singing career was over, and she wanted to sing one last time. She disappeared from public singing for nearly two years.
She returned in 2020. Fast forward to 2024, So Hyang has proven that her vocal technique is rock solid. Not only is she aging in reverse, but she sounds better than ever, if that's even possible.
Her vocal range is still RIDICULOUS, and her breath control remains INSANE.
So Hyang is singing to God.
No matter what Sohyang sings, she injects life into you. She is the most extraordinary woman I know of. You can tie your behind to a piano and it will prove futile because Sohyang's performance will literally suck you into the emotion and power she exudes, piano and all! She is the most magical singer I have come across in my entire six and one half decades on this planet. Sohyang is a once in a lifetime singer, and "You Raise Me Up" is like a personal testimony by her to God's power in her life.
The guy in the video was Shane Filan of the Irish group Westlife. The television program was a tribute to him and his band, and every performer that night sang one of their hits. Westlife had a monster hit in the UK with "You Raise Me Up," thus Sohyang sang this in tribute to him. Shane told Sohyang that after hearing her version "the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up" and it was "amazing" and "outstanding!" Not hard to see why, eh?
The music for the song "You Raise Me Up" was originally written by a Norwegian group called Secret Garden, while the lyrics were written by an Irishman named Brendan Graham. Mr. Graham saw Sohyang's performance and was absolutely thrilled by her rearrangement of the music and rendition, so he had the Irish embassy in Seoul get in contact with Sohyang to let her know that he felt her version was the best ever. Sohyang had to _really_ pull back on concerts after this appearance, and thought it might actually be the last one of her singing career due to the serious pneumonia. Thus the Irish embassy had a difficult time finding Sohyang but they did finally get a hold of her and delivered Mr. Graham's message.
Other than this one performance, we know of only two other times Sohyang has performed this rendition of "You Raise Me Up," both in 2018. When she changes key there a couple of times near the end of the song and belts those high notes so powerfully, you expect her to actually lift off the stage and go into orbit! Yes, Sohyang is famous for throwing in everything and leaving it all on the stage--including the kitchen sink!

Thank you for reacting to Sohyang. Her songs are especially good for your channel as she tries to give Christ's hope to people. And you will react to her songs more, I would like to give you a tip on how to pronounce her name. The correct way to pronounce SoHyang's name is Soh Hyang and Hyang is pronounced H (make H sound) + Yah (like Yahoo) + ng. The first few words in Bridge Over Troubled Water has her name pronounced as the emcee calls out her name. Btw, I believe she depicted Christ's death on the cross through Bridge Over Troubled Water. Hence, instead of singing the 2nd verse, but build on "I will lay me" and the scream of agony at the end with the cry of "down." May God bless people with your channel

You have a bad habit of pausing the video while she is still singing. Please be considerate of your potential subscribers. If you feel the need to interrupt the video, either rewind the video a bit when you resume or pause in between the singing.
