How Israel created a water crisis for Palestinians | It's Complicated

- Water is one of the most precious resources in Israel and the Palestinian territories. But there is a stark imbalance in how this resource is distributed. In the occupied West Bank, Israeli-owned farms are flourishing, while Palestinians often do not have enough water to drink. And in Gaza, Palestinians are facing deadly levels of water shortage. Josh Toussaint-Strauss examines how Israel took control of the region's water supply and created a deadly scarcity crisis for Palestinians.
A precious resource: how Israel uses water to control the West Bank: www.theguardian.com/world/202...

@@user-sz3vc9ue2g Israel occupies and controls all supplies and material, and water and electricity into both Gaza and the West Bank, with the PA propped up as puppets in the west bank. How dense can you be?
As a South African, I lived under an apartheid rule where people were denied basic rights just because a certain race felt they were “Gods chosen people” and that they were superior to everyone else in the country including the indigenous people to the land. Therefore as south africans we know what it’s like to live under these conditions while being oppressed and basically having our fates chosen by the government - the apartheid government of south africa controlled the movement, schools, homes and lives of non whites just as the israel government controls palestinians. The only difference is israel is committing a genocide trying to completely get rid of palestinians in israel - go look at the map of palestinians in palestine in 1948 vs 2023. South africans know that peaceful resistance is never taken seriously by a government who wants to take over your country therefore they resorted to militant resistance in order to break out of the apartheid state. Palestinians lived under israel’s apartheid occupation from 1948 (the same year South africa’s apartheid began) where israel demolished palestinian’s homes, controlled their movement, water, food and electricity, attacked and bombed more innocent civilians than hamas ever did every single year for 75 years before october the 7th. Why isn’t the hamas attack seen as resistance to israel’s attacks then? But israel’s tenfold response to hamas is justified because “they asked for it”? None of the previous israeli attacks which were just as harsh and killed even more people were ever made this big of a deal and most people don’t even know about it. In South Africa, the ANCs peaceful resistance against the apartheid state went unnoticed and only when they resisted more forcefully, then the apartheid state of South Africa became recognised internationally and eventually helped South Africa to become a democratic country where all citizens were given equal rights and access to basic necessities like education, food, jobs and medical care. People probably think this way because they’re so indoctrinated with American mainstream media which propagates israel as the victim and that they’re “defending themselves” by wiping out an entire nation since they’re obviously allies and their governments are blood, money and power hungry. People seriously need to educate themselves before thinking it’s about religions or that it’s a two sided war, when it’s literally a genocide happening in front of our eyes.
Can you give me examples of apartheid regim?

It's not complicated...it's Apartheid! And now Genocide according to international law.
INSTEAD OF TUNNELS, BUILD WATER TREATMENT
They don't have the materials to do so. Also, if they do, israel keeps blowing it up
Unfortunately, plenty of money donation goes to build up the tunnels. And the young generations are living with drugs.
My understanding the UN has given hundred of millions dollars to Palestine Government to upgrade their municipal infrastructure. But the government instead decide rather to dig up water pipes to build missiles, dig hundred of underground tunnels, and build weapons, instead of investing in infrastructure. The money from UN comes from taxes of people of hard working people. This video is one sided. The road infrastructure is torn up because they are counter attack from Israel protecting themselves.
First time seeing a British Channel standing with Truth and justice
Vardır bir hesabı..75 yıl öncesine sorunun kaynağına gittiğinizde de ingilizleri göreceksiniz. Tüm bu yaşananların sebebi...
It's never complicated. It's colonialism 101, which the United Kingdom knows the best, not to mention the notorious Balfour Declaration.
Palestinians arent allowed to gather their own rainwater
lol
Thank you Guardian for this coverage. The oppression and discrimination has been systematic and on going from the start - on Palestinians who ironically were the ones who welcomed the settlers into their communities when not many would.
Thank you for showing the truth.
some of truth
Thank you for bringing this to the worlds attention! I cannot believe this is being allowed to happen.
UK is responsible for israel and palestine
Hamas billionaire leaders cannot provide water for Palestinians, yet thery are living in 5 start luxury hotels in Qatar
Hamas has governed Gaza, it is its duty to provide water with Gaza, not Israeli
@@NNN-jx7fxare you daft? Israel collects the rain water.
I've read these kind of things in history books, ancient history mostly. But how is this happening the 21st century?
Who are you kidding? I saw the video's where hamas proudly dug the waterpipes out of the ground to build missiles.
It's west Bank genius
@@hassansardar3248But wait I thought H@mas wasn't in West Bank? 🤡
Kudos to you, Guardian.
There are thousands dying from strange diseases, including cancer, which has spread horribly and has filled three hospitals designated only for cancer. Previously, experts from the United Nations came to Gaza to analyze the water and other things, and we did not hear about the results of their report. They even ended their mission before the end of the official period in 2014.
Before Israel left Gaza, they constructed water desalination plants and left these for the Gazans to run. For nearly 20 years now, Foreign Aid money has been pouring in to Gaza. They could have used this money to construct more water desalination plants. What have they done with all this money? They have spent it on importing weapons. They have spent it on making weapons and using Gaza as an arsenal and a weapons launching pad!
israel doesn't allow the construction of new plants and blocks the import of spare parts. Tell me why you do it? And the money you are talking about is insufficient and unsustainable. The unemployment rate is 70%. There are so many needs people have and on top of it they need to defend against israeli aggression. Otherwise they will start taking more and more land. Like it happens in west bank.
@@bobobobo3142 Nonsense. Billions have poured into Gaza.
@@GretsGarbo from where and in how much time? Does that mean those who poured the billions do not have accounting skills? I remember Israel funding Hamas to weaken PLO, are you talking about that money?
@@bobobobo3142 No I am not. And no, do you think we all had auditors! It was all our money, paid through taxes, and from all over the western world. It was part of the foreign aid programmes. (And through charities of course) Do you really think once it is paid through foreign aid, governments have thousands of auditors checking how every penny is spent!? All they know is that it has gone to this UN quango or that UN quango. Have you not heard of the scandals that have come to light with Oxfam?
Exactly.
The Gazans used water pipes for rockets instead of building infrastructure.
What about West Bank then
I appreciate the professionalism on this video
Brilliant reporting, thank u, hopefully decision makers of this world will rather sooner than later see the light✌️
it's a lie!! Over 90% of the waters of the State of Israel are treated seawater from the Mediterranean Sea.
Israel's water project was the "national carrier" that transported the water from the Kinneret to the rest of Israel!.
The videos you show of the army are the destruction of pipes that the Palestinians connected to Israel's pipes by theft!
