Pavement is the worst for ice under snow . I live in Yukon on dirt roads and at times even that can get ice under so studs are essential. The ground seems harder when you hit it as it is frozen . I deflate tires 5 to 8 pounds for going down skidoo trails. I have 2 three motor ebikes , 4 inch tires on one and 5 inch tires that float on snow. Don't accelerate in corners with AWD.
Good video. We might need to see more of Laura the dog to get us all through the winter. About to get below-zero temps here in MN for a few days, so no riding for awhile here!
I tried this with my Power Goat. I almost crashed a time or too with those street tires. What’s bad here they mix dirt in with the salt so it just makes a muddy mess all over you and the bike. I think you should name the drone Hedwig after the snowy owl in Harry Potter.
You had way too much air in the tires for those conditions. 4-5 psi instead of 10 would have made a big difference. Also I'd recommend just using the rear brake in loose snow like that. I think instead of a rear hub, a 1000w mid-drive like a BBSHD and the ability to use the gear ratios would have been a big advantage and add a lot more torque to the rear wheel. Then just use the front motor for added traction as needed.
I dread going through a puddle on a trail a day after it rained so there's now way I'm riding out in snow 🤣 and I would name the drone "Buzz" because it sounds like a litlle bee
I bought some snow chains from SlipNot traction . Don’t know how they work because they sent me the wrong size and then said they will not send me new ones unless I measure the wheel myself . So , I don’t recommend anyone dealing with them . Shout it from the rooftops community !!
I question how well studs would would work on patches of pavement without snow. I'm sure they would help greatly off road but would they actually be a hindrance on pavement?
They work fine as long as you don't do anything drastic. I leave my studded tires on from first winter all the way to spring when I know we won't get any snow...then I swap them out for road tires. I've had the same Dillinger's for 5 years now...tread basically still looks new...and I buy new studs and swap them out every two years. On pavement they are fine.
nice one man Lol its the worst when it's that wet and sloppy snow!! its always hard to do much of anything in the sloppy slush snow. Funny when the drone crashes into the tree hahah. Bike did pretty good despite the conditions. Good plan keeping some feet down, be ready to fall at any moment in those conditions haha. Crawling speeds only. Good work !!
Might as well have some spikes in your boots as well. Keeping your feet down at the sides instead of on the pedals won't be helpful if your feet slide out from the compacted snow aka ice
Does it have any regenerative brakes or the ability to charge one battery with the front wheel charging with rear wheel driving!! Love you all and have a blessed day!!! For the drone maybe sparrow or crow!
I bet it's fun riding in the snow, but I'd really struggle on my 26x1.50 tyres 😂 I'd just spin out all over the place anyway 'cos my tyres are Schwalbe 'marathon' just built for speed with pretty much zero tread for any snow traction... I bet it's terrifying when the front wheels constantly spinning out haha Would be a good laugh though 😅 I really love the frame on this melod bike, just looks so cool, especially with the red rims too.
@@mickyb.8014 There are two approaches to slick stuff: 1) Float over it with relatively low traction and wide tires. 2) Use skinny tires with higher traction and dig your way to the road surface. They used to make skinny tires with the tread impregnated with walnut shells. You can also put zip ties around your tires.
I been riding a bike to work for over ten years.this year I want a dual motor e-bike.does anyone have any recommendations under 3500$? Please and thankyou…I’m thinking I want to stay away from fat tires that way I can penetrate to the pavement m/ice and get bite with the studs
That's what i tell people. It's why i dont have a dual motor ebike. I commute year round in South Dakota. The front wheel will spin out on you constantly in any snow/ice beacuse of lack of weight. You dont even wanna talk about the slush on the roads.... wipeout city.

Had my Wired Freedom out last night in the snow, it's great fun with colder/powder snow. Road 7 miles in Southern Wisconsin along the Rock River
Reminded me of 50 years ago when we were out motocrossing
Great video and great job...warning..not recommended. I saw the selfie stick ....I think the invisibility thing wore off...🤔😂🤣 "Daisy" the Drone.....

Good advice! Wish I had a lot more snow over dirt and a ski up front
Good movie reference.

I'll always try to get Laura in on RUclips!
Great job with the video and you should name it the BUZZ SAW
I used to love riding rain or shine. Currently looking for an ebike my whole life was standard bike, some better than other for snow riding
awd with studded tires is the way to go with snow, but even then you have to be careful with the front wheel losing traction.
I have already broken a couple action cameras. You are braver than me to risk your camera on snow.
Also...i use studded Dilingers the entire winter. Those Kendas suck on amy surface let me tell it. Especially wet snow.
Yeah I definitely could have used more traction

And u have a long winter...
Yep really long@@IMBruceECLECTIC
Ha e to have full coverage fenders....I won't buy an ebike without them.

I love the fact you can change the motor preferance. I rode a mongoose in the wyoming blizzard so i am very ready to do this on my ebike 😅
Dual motors helps so much in low traction environments!

Good to know! Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah it would be worse on bare asphalt

What dedication looks like..
😆
That's one word to call it! ha
I take out the fat tire bike for the winter and put the electric away until the second week of April. The electric in the snow is scary

Thanks man! Might try some more snow riding in the future with those straps that have spikes on the tires

Curious as to how cold of temps the 600 DL will perform.
Virtually the same, maybe a bit less range due to the cold.
Stud the tyres with nuts, bolts and washers aka Mad Max style
That would be epic
I completely forgot to tell you to make sure not to lock up the front tire when braking.
Tried to! Thanks.
Does that need to be said? Wtf? Oh I forgot to tell you, make sure you don’t fall when riding the bike
Does it have any regenerative brakes or the ability to charge one battery with the front wheel charging with rear wheel driving!! Love you all and have a blessed day!!! For the drone maybe sparrow or crow!
No regen! Thanks!
Call the drone "Mini-Max" - naturaly
I think next time fresh snow riding on trails would be less dangerous.
Absolutely
Were they studded winter tires?
Nope!

Definitely a cool looking bike! Ever considering going fat tire?
@@maximumchargeEV not really as I just use roads really but I'd like to ride one just to see, shame none of my mates are into e-bikes, just me😂

Small tires with dual motors will be too heavy for the tires. You want studded fat tires for snow and ice
@@maximumchargeEV to heavy for the tires?
Thank you for the video!
My pleasure!

True! Gotta be extra careful
😮😮😮😮
Road salt getting kicked up on your expensive ebike is nasty. Corrosion city!
Gotta wipe if off later for sure
Lol, ya gotta get studs....
Definitely easier ways to break your neck. 🤦🏻♂️😂
I wonder how that rear hub + mid drive would do in the snow? ⛄️
Yup! It would probably still suck. Torque and power were fine, the traction is what sucks
@@maximumchargeEV the difference being that you’re not over torquing with your front wheel though, no torque steer. 🤷🏻♂️
