I honestly don’t get why so many people find silok controversial. He’s never once said an opinion where I’ve been like ‘WOAH slow down buddy’. Basically everyone of his opinions I can see where he’s coming from. Silok 100% deserves a better fan base imo, I feel really bad, but I’m glad none of that looks like it’s deterring him from making videos, cuz I enjoy them loads. Big ups man 🙌
I think he does also point out the fanbase more than the average RUclipsr. I mean, including comments and callouts in the videos themselves highlights it more, but it’s present in other channels too, not that I think it’s a bad thing to do, I always enjoy hearing his opinions and well-crafted arguments
Just be sure to not fall into the hole of ‘well I don’t think he’s wrong so he’s not wrong and anyone who thinks he is wrong is just complaining’. Opinions on this are valid either way as long as people are respectful. Those who aren’t are just dumb
I'm surprised Silok didn't mention that himself (unless he's too good at the game that he never ran into that, I only saw it myself because of an unfair red shell)
That was one detail I really appreciated, as it's arguably yet another reason as to why Wii Rainbow Road is so memorable An argument could be made that it makes no sense because the whole reason it happens is because you're falling down to Earth and burning through the atmosphere, but since Lakitu became a quick-fishin' champ in 8, you barely fall far from the track to warrant instantly burning up And while that is a fair argument, ultimately it's fun and, again, part of the Wii Rainbow Road experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way
I feel like the bcp could've solved a lot of its issues with a simple rebranding. Instead of the Mario kart 8 booster course pass, make it the tour pass for Mario kart 8. Advertise it as 48 tracks from tour being polished up a bit for $25. Because that's what it is, and I don't think the ever intended it to be more.
sometimes basing a code name as a theme goes further than intended. Think about the name nitro tracks Nitro started in DS. Nitro was the DS’ code name Now the Nitro name is used for new tracks
I feel like the only track that was purposely designed for 8DX from the start was BC3. It incorporates anti-grav the most purposefully out of all of them, looks amazing, and has a BANGER sound track.
Yeah there's a lot of evidence it was made more for 8 Deluxe, including Tour's RMX Bowser's Castle 1 being the only RMX course to pull from a GBA track and not a SNES one while being internally made prior to the game's launch in 2019
Bowser's Castle 3 caught me by surprise so freaking hard. I grew up with Super Mario Kart but I always found it a really challenging game to go back to. Yet I still recognized every lane of the track immediately and it still didn't feel old-school at all. It's impressive how modern they made a former 2D track while keeping it perfectly recognizable.
Dang I’m sorry to hear about the backlash from last wave. I for one actually agreed with a lot of your Wave 5 critiques as it felt like a hard drop from Wave 4 in many ways. People take online opinions way too seriously these days, and that’s made discussion about media so much worse. The internet has become so hive minded, which is not going to have good repercussions for society as a whole.
Talking about other people "taking things to seriously" when he spent a good chunk of this video ranting about people criticizing him is kinda weird ngl
@@doomse150 That doesn't mean he's taking it seriously, that just means he feels he should share his side and fully explain why people are over exaggerating and I think that's a good thing to be telling the people who watch his videos, because it seems a lot of those people don't understand what opinions are.
@@doomse150”a good chunk” dude you are the type of person he criticised in the video, he ranted about the toxic people for like 1 maybe 2 minutes AT MOST and the rest of “rant” was just him making his points clear about what he was doing and defending himself against garbage toxicity. Even IF you decide to consider defending and making yourself clear “ranting” it’s still like only 10% of the video.
I'm sure someone's brought it up already, but a part of the passes existence comes down to solely preserving the Tour tracks, but also because iirc, a new team overall is the one working on it. This is basically a new teams first project as they learn to do Mario Kart stuff and are going to hop into working on the next Mario Kart project now that this is done and potentially be the ones to carry the torch once the seniors of the main Mario Kart team have to retire eventually. It's a really good way to give practical experience to a newer team that translates directly to more content for the players without having to wait for a full new release where the quality dips would feel even worse coming from MK8 after almost a full decade of playing it. All this to say, it's not the A game of the main team, I suppose, because it's not the "main team" for now haha.
I loved how you still ended this with a good note, because I think it's still worth noting how fun the tracks were and I think it just shows that you were fair to the DLC. I simply don't understand some people's obsession with defending laziness. What I actually enjoyed on the whole DLC review is that you were fair, you did point out the obvious and you did point out the qualities of each track. Yes, Wave 5 was disappointing, same for Wave 1 and it's just a normal thing to state what the problems were. Nintendo did import the tracks from Tour and that's just objective, I don't understand why stating it would make anyone upset. Some people had low standards for this DLC, and that's okay, but when you have just a little bit of expectation (especially from NINTENDO), you totally have the right to be disappointed about something and that's where I just don't understand the backlash, it just kinda feels like people are denying some obvious problems as it would ruin their enjoyment. Anyway, great review as always Silok!
It has nothing to do with having low standards, or defending laziness for that matter. A lot of people just have different opinions. Some people just don't care about the graphics as much, and find the tracks fantastic, and others, like me, actually enjoy the simpler art style of the booster courses a lot. It's not because we have low standards for this dlc though.
That's the same kind of condescending attitude that I sometimes hate about Silok. Looking down on people with different opinions and thinking you know or can dictate why they have those opinions and judge how the reasons for having those opinions are dumb or somehow invalid. But yeah, makes sense that you would appreciate someone who does the same crap you do.
It's one thing to criticize the tracks it's another to imply that the team behind them were lazy when you know nothing about the circumstances in which they were developed. You don't know how much of a budget they had or how many people they had or how much time they had. A lot more goes into porting tracks than you might expect and at 50 cents per track (which is not even including the new characters, redone music, costumes or other editions) the BCP is a good value for money. And like yeah they could've put more time into it but what we got was still really well done for the most part
@@lowrngy Right? The amount of condescending arrogance Silok and his followers display when talking to people who disagree with their opinions is absolutely INSANE.
@@lowrngy What the actual hell I think you misunderstood this part and you MIGHT be the type of people I was mentionning here. I'm literally saying people take too much time on the internet defending it instead of, you know, enjoying it. If it "didn't bother you" then you shouldn't really be... talking about it. You're being exactly the type of person I was talking about here, if it actually doesn't ruin your enjoyment then there's no need to make a whole argument about it. I also enjoy the DLC but I look at it with a more critical point of view that allows me to better appreciate what we had originally, there is nothing wrong with that. I just think it is dishonest to just hide it under the rug and act like NOTHING changed because that's not the case. If a person criticizing a product actually does ruin your enjoyment, then maybe you shouldn't watch a review of it.
I'd say that is almost hilarious to compare Bowser Castle 3 and Rainbow Road with the Tour Version, they basically took the base skeleton from the tracks in Tour but re did everything else, which is cool but one the other hand makes me feel a bit dissapointed on why we didn't get 1 or 2 tracks with that level of work in every wave.
My best theory is time, they wanted to end the booster course on a bang so they got to do a lot of Bowser's Castle 3 and Wii Rainbow Road. But because of deadlines they didn't have the opportunity to work as hard on the other courses throughout the pass and just settled. I guess we'll never know though. I just hope MK9's team is given enough time and budget to make that a truly great game
Ever since you pointed out 3DS Rainbow Road looked blue, I’ve never been able to unsee it. 3DS Blue Road is still a great track but I’m happy they kept the rainbow in Wii Rainbow Road :)
@@hypotheticaltapeworm how is that unfair? I completely agree with him on the fact that visually AND mechanically a DLC should be the same quality as the base game.
@@didrxnx5089 The fact that you think like this points to either great entitlement or ignorance. Either way, it's completely unreasonable. 48 tracks that look and play like the base game is literally asking they develop a sequel from scratch. I'm not sure if you know this but the BCP had nowhere near the time and budget as the original game. Anyone who knows about game development would find your take childish and fantastical.
Great video! Here's my thoughts on every track Rome Avanti - This is probably my favourite city track so I may be a bit biased, but I really love the romantic moonlit streets aesthetic and the relaxing music DK Mountain - Probably my least favourite in the wave, but still really good. It's a bit janky on 200cc and I prefer how the bridge worked in DD and Wii, however not a bad track Daisy Circuit - An extremely underrated track from Wii and translated really well. Like Rome I love the romantic resort vibes and the sunset aesthetic Piranha Plant Cove - Probably my favourite non city Tour course, the course works super well with 8DX's water physics and the lap changing is a nice addition Madrid Drive - A really great final city, very fast paced and loads of unique areas, the museum and stadium music are also really cool Rosalina's Ice World - Another great curveball track and a super underrated track from MK7, the camera and half pipes can be a bit janky but I like the new shortcut at the end Bowser Castle 3 - This course got the glow up of the lifetime in Tour, and they done it justice in 8DX. The new colours and the music are everything a Bowser Castle 3 should be Rainbow Road - Looks fantastic, banger music, plays well, amazing track
Completely agree with your approach. This dlc is fun, but it is incredibly far from perfect. Please don’t change your ways - your genuine critiques are amazing and resonate with people more than you know.
Coming from someone who pre-ordered the original Mario Kart 8, play the demo multiple times, picked it up day of release and bought the original DLC asap all the way back in the early days. Needless to say, I have enjoyed Mario Kart 8 ever since the very beginning on May 29th 2014 on Wii U. When Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was announced for Nintendo switch you bet I immediately pre-ordered and the rest is history. Fast forward to November 9th 2023, and here we are today with the full Booster Course Pass! It's crazy to look back after all these years to see how far Mario Kart 8/Deluxe has come since then! I recently 100% the booster course past DLC which means I officially have the full game 100% complete in its entirety. It's been a fun-filled ride from start to finish. I'm glad things went the way they did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because the booster cords pass was just something that this game needed to fully Feel Complete. Now, I will continue to enjoy this game its very fullest. Thank-you SilokHawk, for all of your awesome reviews of this game. It was always great to know that there was a fellow player who was actually around since the Wii U days and gave it the proper respect and attention it deserved. I've watched all of your Mario Kart content in full and respect how passionate you are about the franchise. ( For the record, as a DieHard F-Zero player since childhood. I used the #07 Captain Falcon Amiibo outfit with Blue Falcon on day-1 in Wii U days. Because F-Zero is criminally underrated.) Anyhow, looking forward to the next MarioKart. Until then, I'll enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Keep racing on! 🥇🏁🏆
8:06 Actually they did due to how the engine works, but it's not THAT much effort. Basically, the game will count you out of bounds if you leave the checkpoints on the track. It was more so a "Huh, this could make for a neat shortcut" and then extending the bounds, but it was still added intentionally for mario kart 8 deluxe. like the ninja hideaway 200cc gap cut
I really enjoyed the majority of tracks in this wave. I hope Bowser Castle 3 is the blueprint for SNES tracks going forward. There is a lot of potential for a cool Ghost Valley remake in the future just like how Boo Lake from Super Circuit delivered last year. Rainbow Road and DK Mountain were perfect soundoffs to Wii and Double Dash tracks, respectively. It's only the city tracks that disappointed me. Rome is okay since it has unique enemies like fuzzies and rocky wrenches, but Madrid feels boring except for the very end in the soccer stadium. I think the Booster Course Pass was a success overall. My two favorite tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Yoshi's Island and Maple Treeway, were added in the DLC. Plus the new characters, Mii costumes, custom items, and jukebox were a cherry on top.
This series has been a lot of fun to keep up with, and its been one of the few times I was genuinely exited in seeing another part when it came out. Hats off to you creating these despite the complainers constant shock coma syndrome.
For me personally, your takes are more founded than most. As someone who played the game on Wii U a decade ago as well (literally), I can totally see where you are coming from. Please keep voicing your true opinion, it's refreshing to hear.
To me, the whole point of the booster course pass was porting the tracks. It's not meant to be high effort like the base game, it's something I understood from the beginning and am grateful for taking tracks stuck on the mobile and putting them in a game that, as you say, is fun.
I agree with this to an extent. however the BCP had the bare minimum for some of their tracks, and some of them are on par with Garfield Kart and sometimes worse. (Toads Circuit)
0:10 That guy is notoriously famous (atleast for me) to be the guy who keeps bashing other people for not liking the Tour tracks (yes even shit tracks like Sky High Sundae), and would also bash people for expecting good graphics out of this dlc by saying "Mario Kart 8 didn't need to have photorealistic textures". Like I'm sorry, WHAT?! A lot of the textures are 2d and they are really good for a 2014 game. And they still hold up well. Its detailed. They're good and he will absolutely hate the next game most likely. So tldr just ignore that guy. He kinda coo coo crazy
I feel like you were very much justified to talk about textures so much because i personally think that basically none of the tracks are better than base 8 in that department, they don't look bad, but base 8 looks better and I'm glad someone is finally pointing it out rather than blindly pretending that every bcp track looks photorealistic. As for different style choices, i don't mind TOO much, just as long as textures are up to par, the BCP style itself isn't bad at all Also here are some of my own other opinions i have on the pass: Wave 5 was the most disappointing, as Sunset Wilds was ruined, Koopa Cape was eh, and Squeaky Clean Sprint is super janky Peach Gardens was the best DS remake thanks to lap 3 sending you backwards Mario Circuit 3 is actually quite fun, and Sky High Sundae is the real stinker of wave 2 We should have gotten Toad Colours Paris Promenade is the most underrated track in the whole pass Tokyo Blur is ass Singapore Speedway is the best city track as you go through part of the f1 track :) Piranha Plant Cove is underwhelming Wii Rainbow Road was the only way to end this pass Madrid Drive has one of the best cities Rosalina's Ice World has the best song of wave 6 Coconut Mall wave 1 was a sacrifice we had to make for the pass to sell well
You make some great points! Peach Gardens is the only track that has anything new done with that they actually didn't do in Tour, that lap 3 turnaround wasn't in that game. Most of the other new cool stuff with tracks here was in Tour sadly like he said in the video. You're right about Coconut Mall tho, and it's the only track was complained about so bad they had to go back and fix it after the fact lol (not including the Toad Circuit sand that got fixed from a mere screenshot of the trailer generating so much backlash)
I agree with all but Piranha Plant Cove, I'd say visually it wasn't super interesting, but the gameplay, for me, unlike almost every other track in the BCP, made up for that.
I want you to know I love hearing your opinion. I also saw that Reddit thread and it was hilarious. Literally half of them held some weird personal grudge against you, and pretty much joined in at a chance to bandwagon hate you. Even though I may or may not agree with your opinions at times, I always love hearing them. Keep it up! 👍🏼
I liked how you talked about textures, it made me have better standards for nintendo and made me more greatful for the good designed tracks like gcn waluigi stadium
Exactly, I don't even understand why some are butthurt by the fact he pointed out the bad textures. Not only is he not alone doing so, but it also makes you more grateful of the huge amount of work that went behind tracks from the base game/Wii U DLC, SNES Bowser Castle 3 or GCN Waluigi Stadium
3:54 okay, here is my less sarcastic theory on what might be happening I think what is happening is that I think people who are fans of the booster course are tired of hearing about how the graphics of the tracks because that is what a lot of people point out and focus on and it is the thing that they disagree on. So they focus and remember that point and so argue against it. But since the rest of it they agree with, there isn't anything to argue/talk about, so they just don't talk about it and probably forget about it. Scarlet and Violet are games that are similar in this regard that I really like and personally, I can remember the names of RUclipsrs who have complained about its glitches and graphics, but cannot really remember the names of RUclipsrs who said positive things about it. So with the Booster Course people, they probably forget that you said something nice about the booster course, remember only the negative stuff and then because they only remember that, believe that the video must have only been about the graphics because everything else wasn't negative and thus, they forgot it so it wasn't in the video
I’m not sure but he might have been referring to the person who made the track and not NuoKart, assuming she’s just playing the track (unless she made the track in that case you’re completely right)
wave 1, most of wave 2, and rock rock mountain especially are baffling to look at, seeing how willing they were to use high-quality textures and even REMODEL portions of tracks in later waves. heck, even choco mountain has decent texturing in the same wave as toad circuit and shroom ridge. it's disappointing that they only went back and changed one or two things in earlier waves; would have loved to see them make toad circuit and shroom ridge specifically look halfway decent, particularly since they're both fun tracks that i just hate looking at
Yeah AND I hope they massively upgrade every wave graphically and visually so that they will be in line with the base game (base 8 tracks, Wii U DLC tracks, and 8DX Battle Stages)
speaking of anti-gravity, the more I play the tracks and the more used to the layouts become, I have noticed that only a few base 8 tracks actually utilized that gimmick. It's not like all the tracks need to have some ground breaking upside down or wall driving anti-gravity on every track. It's just that the majority tracks that used the anti-gravity was just a slight slant in a portion of the track that would likewise just be a normal track section. Like saying the anti-gravity in Wario's Gold Mine was "good" is a complete overstatement. I guess I want to see more tracks like Mario Circuit where the track is longer than it looks with the help of the anti-gravity taking the reacers underneath the initial track driving upside down but again, only a few tracks actually did that.
just so anyone's curious, when he mentions every time he talks about graphics in his wave 5 review at 3:33, here's all the points that he talks that aren't graphics (about the track he's talking of course, not something like the names of the tracks or comparing to another track) Athens dash: Has alternative routes that add a lot of diversity to the track The layout is also a bit janky Complains that the ramps are an issue Multiple giant hitboxes Complains about halfpipes and the camera of the halfpipes Daisy Cruiser: Complains about how it’s braindead because you don’t longer have to avoid the pool Complains about the removal of the life buoys The soundtrack is a banger Moonview Highway: Likes the addition of the cars from mario kart 8 Talks about the layout (not even mentions the graphics here) Squeaky Clean Sprint: He likes the theme Talks about how he likes all alternative paths Music is good too The mushroom route that connects to the main route (makes the player do a blind jump) No use of antigrav Los angeles laps: Comments on the use of a good halfpipe Talks about the alternative routes again (this one is the one where he mentions graphics the most by far) Sunset wilds: Talks about the absence of the tents Simplifying the layout for no reason Koopa Cape: All of the halfpipes suck Bad camera Bad music Vancouver velocity: (NOTHING, HE ONLY TALKS ABOUT THE GRAPHICS)
For vancouver, he actually partially mentions how all the city courses feel pretty interchangeable implying that Vancouver is nothing that you wouldn't expect from the average city
I'm SOO glad I'm not the only person who adores SNES Bowser Castle 3. Few notes on my end bc I feel like it: - Daisy Circuit felt like a WASTE to me. It's good, but this feels like one of the few tracks that is almost so 1 to 1 that I can’t like it. - Yeah I got nothing else. But yeah otherwise that's 6 solid videos of solid opinions, great vid 👍.
Daisy Circuit should've either been in an earlier wave or just not brought over. I've always liked the track but it's just not finale material. Dry Dry Ruins was literally right there why it wasn't in wave 6 is beyond me.
The only real issue I had with your reviews was how critical you were about stuff like the 2D crowds being too close since I never really minded it. As for your last video, honestly I did think wave 5 was weaker than the 2 waves before it and I’m glad this one sticked the landing as well as every track looking great graphically. I also like to add I wouldn’t be surprised if the team behind the BCP was less experienced than the base game since a lot of it was just porting over tracks. At the end of the day the people who put in the time and effort to give us both Tour and BCP, even with varying quality, deserve our respect, cause if the credits showed us anything, they really wanted to put love into this.
@@a18yearoldonyoutubeluigi here's the thing, every time someone saiys that they just don't like Tour tracks, this little manchild says that we hate Mario Kart Tour and praises Mario Kart Tour as a great game
@@a18yearoldonyoutubeluigi But Mario Kart Tour is actually _not so great_ (pretty nice to be fair) and don't appeal to a lot of people because it's a mobile game
You do a really good job with your Analysis of the games that you play I think it's important you stay true to yourself and don't let the haters get you down 👍
I actually like the half pipes in Rosalina's Ice World since they make it easier to make the jump to the ice on Lap 2 and 3. In 7 even with a mushroom I always had trouble making the jump especially on lap 3 where it feels almost impossible.
It’s actually kind of insane the booster course pass is over now. Feels like it was only announced a few months ago but it was actually a year and a half ago… dang. Time flies. When the booster course pass was announced, I made a list of tracks I wanted. I wanted Waluigi pinball, 3DS and Wii Rainbow Road, DK mountain, and Toads Factory. Got all of em except Toads Factory, I absolutely loved that track, I remember playing multiple time trials on that track just bc I loved racing on it. Hopefully it returns in the near future.
Hell yeah ! These videos are my favorite of your channel, imma watch them all over before this one since it's probably the last time we'll have DLC wave
after watching all of these videos on the booster course tracks, i would love to see your take on the crash team racing nitro fueled tracks, or even just that game in general.
For what it's worth, I'm very happy you decided to finish reviewing this DLC. I always found your analysis fun to watch and level headed. Obviously I didn't agree with 100% of everything you said (I think the road on 3DS's rainbow road looks pretty despite being far more blue than other roads) but that's totally understandable in an opinion based review lmao. Like another commenter said, you never said anything that had me like "now HOLD on there, reel that back in there buddy". The vast majority of what you critiqued about has been also said by many other fans online, there was a noticeable drop in quality. But in the end of the day its just like what you said at the end of the video, it's Mario Kart. It will always be fun, especially in the MK8D engine. I'm very grateful for this DLC iterating on arguably the best Mario Kart game of our generation, it will be a tall order to surpass this title in it's entirety.
11:40 Madrid is a huge Soccer city. One of the biggest clubs in the world is Real Madrid CF. It only makes sense that the course has a soccer stadium you pass through. The first time I played it I was like “wow this is a nice addition not a lot of people will get the reference to”.
You're honest and THAT is what makes you one of the best out there, you're not scared about people's disagreement and that's honestly really impressive. If I'm honest too, I have ALWAYS thought that the dlc doesn't look in a general perspective as good as the base game, like c'mon! Do not tell me that Daisy Cruiser or the bathroom race look as good as Ribbon Road or Cheep Cheep Beach, it's RIDICULOUS. The recency bias plus hardcore nostalgia with Nintendo truly affects people's point of view I guess.
I do wish you talked about how the tracks worked more than just how they look, but overall, your critiques were on point. People shouldn't be harassing someone for their opinion, plus he never said he hated the DLC and thought it sucked, just wished they were more consistent with quality.
I've been waiting for your review. Your past videos on the Booster Course Pass have been fair. Sure, you've been critical on the visuals, but that didn't stop me from having a good time watching. I appreciate how you stressed that your prominence on social media doesn't invalidate my opinion. Your message at the end was another highlight. Good job, Silokhawk!
3:08 Woah, I didn't know that was a point of contention, sorry you have to deal with that. Personally I think graphics aren't talked about enough when people talk about the booster pass. A lot of random people I talk to don't even seem to know that most of the new content comes from Tour, including the nitro courses, Mii costumes, and new characters. The first couple waves in my opinion really didn't do much graphical or size adjustment when porting courses over. When you're seeing cpus crash into walls as a standard in Ninja Hideaway, that's a sign that you might need to adjust the turns and size of the course more for this game for smooth gameplay. In the later waves however, I think they actually listened to feedback and were given more time to make these courses be up to MK8's standard instead of simply just being Tour ports. And don't get me wrong, I love that they're making the content they made in Tour available for console (except for Piranha Plant Pipeline, rip, I hope to see you in the next game), people worked hard on those courses and it's great that they won't become lost media and that we can play them with a controller now. But if they're gonna put these courses in 8, they've got to live up to the precedent that 8's courses have set. And I think this last wave has finally done that so I'm really happy about that ^^
If you don't want context you can just watch 1:26 - 3:02 and 5:42 - the end. You're only missing about 4 minutes and there's timestamps for a reason my guy.
Silok, I'm sure you know this already but don't be dissuaded from voicing your opinions on anything. Being explicit with what you think is quality, fun, etc. in a game, definitely has earned my trust as a viewer regardless of whether or not I agree with your opinions. Cheers man.
Idk who was dogging on you, but sorry to hear that. I honestly always appreciate your perspective on things, even if I personally don't see issues where you do. You bring a different level of knowledge to the conversation that I wouldn't have otherwise. It's also just interesting to consider your perspective even if I ultimately don't agree with it at times. Hopefully this doesn't tamper you from sharing your genuine feelings on an issue, cause you help a lot of us think about things in a new way and we appreciate what you bring to the table.
I think its funny that people consider your reviews to be negative. You are just more focused on the actual quality of what you're reviewing rather than your general opinion of the entire product since its still generally positive
I do personally prefer 3DS RR's textures, the problem i have with Wii RR and the rest are tiles it makes the Rainbow Roads look slightly less Rainbow -ish while this is some sort of water texture which is more unique
While I think both 3DS and Wii RR look absolutely phenomenal, I definitely agree on the other RRs I get WHY 8 and SNES look more artificial, but that doesn't mean I like it
THANK you for giving us your honest thoughts over the past two years despite the negativity. You always help me crystallize and understand what my OWN thoughts and opinions are about these courses, whether it’s because I agree with you or because I couldn’t agree less 😂 Couldn’t be happier to agree to disagree about video games, I hope Reddit catches on!
i've enjoyed following this series as the waves have been released! very much agree with the closing sentiment that despite the lack of effort, the bcp is still very fun and worth the money. although honestly it just made me want mario kart 9 even more since none of these tracks were really that groundbreaking from a visual or design sense
Real shame so many people were just crapping on you. I mildly enjoyed some of your video before, but what really showed me that you're a great creator was your review of Mario Kart Wii. In that video I was ready to break out the good ol' pitchfork and torch and yet, I was able to completely agree with every point you made. You're an excellent creator, and the people that were angry with you were not in any way justified in their actions.
I fully agree with everything said here! The fact that the tracks are just ripped from tour sort of devalues the changes that people only find out about because of the booster pass, but nobody with a switch even plays tour so the changes ARE new to them, and I think that's where the argument of "You should talk more about the gameplay changes" comes from. I'm not gonna say the argument has validity though, it's very short-sighted.
I like that all the rainbow roads the rainbow you drive on look different so as a result i see 3DS rainbow road having a lot of blue a good thing because it makes it stand out.
I hate how people get when people speak their mind when they have flaws about something they love. I personally love Mk8 Deluxe, and all the Booster Course Pass tracks. But I also see the flaws and respect people pointing them out
Its a Hivemind. if you hate on something that everyone generally has a similar opinion of, then they dog on you without a second thought. usually its in a positive light when it comes to video games. or with The Coffin and Andy and LeyLey. its the complete opposite and quite frankly a stupid reasoning for anyone to be angry at it. (Basically American Twitter doesn't like anime and hated on the people who made the game because it was a bit edgy. like that doesn't exist in america)
You can take that last jump on Rosalina's Ice World without a mushroom but you have to do a semi-advanced mini turbo hop thing. Many people can't do it and I know that isnt the point of what you were saying, I just wanted to let you know for your own play if you didn't know already
I enjoyed watching these series of video from Silok mainly because he would perfectly portray how I felt about the booster courses. The people that negatively commented that he focused too much on visuals clearly still don't understand what Silok was trying to review. Even a simple layout map like toad circuit will be fun to play because it's mario kart which is why the inconsistency in visuals and overall lazy use of tour design makes me resonate alot with these videos.
Big ups man 🙌
yeah, even if some times I don't agree with his opinions I can definitely see why he has that opinion
most of his fanbase is pretty good, its usually the people that aren't in his fanbase that discover his videos
I think he does also point out the fanbase more than the average RUclipsr. I mean, including comments and callouts in the videos themselves highlights it more, but it’s present in other channels too, not that I think it’s a bad thing to do, I always enjoy hearing his opinions and well-crafted arguments
It's because Nintendo fanboyism is a hell of a drug.
Just be sure to not fall into the hole of ‘well I don’t think he’s wrong so he’s not wrong and anyone who thinks he is wrong is just complaining’. Opinions on this are valid either way as long as people are respectful. Those who aren’t are just dumb
One more detail: on Wii Rainbow Road, falling off the track causes you to turn into a fireball, just like in the original!
I'm surprised Silok didn't mention that himself (unless he's too good at the game that he never ran into that, I only saw it myself because of an unfair red shell)
That was one detail I really appreciated, as it's arguably yet another reason as to why Wii Rainbow Road is so memorable
An argument could be made that it makes no sense because the whole reason it happens is because you're falling down to Earth and burning through the atmosphere, but since Lakitu became a quick-fishin' champ in 8, you barely fall far from the track to warrant instantly burning up
And while that is a fair argument, ultimately it's fun and, again, part of the Wii Rainbow Road experience, and I wouldn't have it any other way
It's cool that it's there, but considering that you never actually reach the planet, it becomes kinda pointless.
@@UltimateTS64 I would've loved to wait 10 seconds to reach the planet before being respawned

The Mii costumes also have special animations depending on which you pick. The dolphin does a swim trick, the pokey does a wiggle, etc.
And you'll never guess where they got them from.
the cow twerks, for some reason
@SuperbConnor64 where they get them from?
@@wurtknurte7283 theyre actually made for the bcp
@@agentclank8183 theyre all carried over from tour
I feel like the bcp could've solved a lot of its issues with a simple rebranding. Instead of the Mario kart 8 booster course pass, make it the tour pass for Mario kart 8. Advertise it as 48 tracks from tour being polished up a bit for $25. Because that's what it is, and I don't think the ever intended it to be more.
On some level, it's already that because Booster was Tour's internal codename. But yeah it's not exactly advertised as a bunch of Tour tracks
sometimes basing a code name as a theme goes further than intended.
Think about the name nitro tracks
Nitro started in DS. Nitro was the DS’ code name
Now the Nitro name is used for new tracks
After being a public punching bag, I would think he'd be justified to say what he did. After all, they provoked him.@@doomse150
@@doomse150 I think he's more than justified in defending his opinions and critiques when so many people are relentlessly bashing him for them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this last wave, especially Bowsers Castle. They really went all in on this version of it and it turned out amazing
I loved the BCP overall but I think your analysis and critiques are fair and balanced. Keep being yourself my friend.
I don't think it's fair that he demands the BCP be the same quality as the base game.
apposed to a unfair and overpowered critique. /j
@@hypotheticaltapeworm how is that unfair? I completely agree with him on the fact that visually AND mechanically a DLC should be the same quality as the base game.
@@didrxnx5089 The fact that you think like this points to either great entitlement or ignorance. @@hypotheticaltapewormyou really are gona talk like that when Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U got a dlc that looked as good as base 8???
Great video! Here's my thoughts on every track
Rome Avanti - This is probably my favourite city track so I may be a bit biased, but I really love the romantic moonlit streets aesthetic and the relaxing music
DK Mountain - Probably my least favourite in the wave, but still really good. It's a bit janky on 200cc and I prefer how the bridge worked in DD and Wii, however not a bad track
Daisy Circuit - An extremely underrated track from Wii and translated really well. Like Rome I love the romantic resort vibes and the sunset aesthetic
Piranha Plant Cove - Probably my favourite non city Tour course, the course works super well with 8DX's water physics and the lap changing is a nice addition
Madrid Drive - A really great final city, very fast paced and loads of unique areas, the museum and stadium music are also really cool
Rosalina's Ice World - Another great curveball track and a super underrated track from MK7, the camera and half pipes can be a bit janky but I like the new shortcut at the end
Bowser Castle 3 - This course got the glow up of the lifetime in Tour, and they done it justice in 8DX. The new colours and the music are everything a Bowser Castle 3 should be
Rainbow Road - Looks fantastic, banger music, plays well, amazing track
Because F-Zero is criminally underrated.)
Anyhow, looking forward to the next MarioKart.
That donation at the beginning:
“I disagree but I can’t argue your points”
…
Saying that you should ignore the half pipes on rosalinas ice world got me cracking up. You can tell this guy never plays online.
But its jarring to go from base 8 to shit graphics
I agree with this to an extent. however the BCP had the bare minimum for some of their tracks, and some of them are on par with Garfield Kart and sometimes worse. (Toads Circuit)
You killed it in the schaffrillas productions video
The best part about wave 6 is that they kept the Mii character in the corner
Silok, can you teach me this power you have of putting people in comas over the internet?
As for different style choices, i don't mind TOO much, just as long as textures are up to par, the BCP style itself isn't bad at all
Also here are some of my own other opinions i have on the pass:
Wave 5 was the most disappointing, as Sunset Wilds was ruined, Koopa Cape was eh, and Squeaky Clean Sprint is super janky
Peach Gardens was the best DS remake thanks to lap 3 sending you backwards
Mario Circuit 3 is actually quite fun, and Sky High Sundae is the real stinker of wave 2
We should have gotten Toad Colours
Paris Promenade is the most underrated track in the whole pass
Tokyo Blur is ass
Singapore Speedway is the best city track as you go through part of the f1 track :)
Piranha Plant Cove is underwhelming
Wii Rainbow Road was the only way to end this pass
Madrid Drive has one of the best cities
Rosalina's Ice World has the best song of wave 6
Coconut Mall wave 1 was a sacrifice we had to make for the pass to sell well
You make some great points!
3:54 okay, here is my less sarcastic theory on what might be happening
I think what is happening is that I think people who are fans of the booster course are tired of hearing about how the graphics of the tracks because that is what a lot of people point out and focus on and it is the thing that they disagree on.
17:18 actually NuoKart’s a she (transfem in fact)
Also NuoKart’s her Mario Kart focused side channel; her main is Mayro
I’m not sure but he might have been referring to the person who made the track and not NuoKart, assuming she’s just playing the track (unless she made the track in that case you’re completely right)
Congrats on 200k!
wave 1, most of wave 2, and rock rock mountain especially are baffling to look at, seeing how willing they were to use high-quality textures and even REMODEL portions of tracks in later waves. heck, even choco mountain has decent texturing in the same wave as toad circuit and shroom ridge. it's disappointing that they only went back and changed one or two things in earlier waves; would have loved to see them make toad circuit and shroom ridge specifically look halfway decent, particularly since they're both fun tracks that i just hate looking at
Yeah AND I hope they massively upgrade every wave graphically and visually so that they will be in line with the base game (base 8 tracks, Wii U DLC tracks, and 8DX Battle Stages)
Fun-fact: If you fall off from the track in Rainbow Road, you will actually burn in the atmosphere, just like in the wii version.
speaking of anti-gravity, the more I play the tracks and the more used to the layouts become, I have noticed that only a few base 8 tracks actually utilized that gimmick.
Sometimes you talk about how bad the mud looks and suddenly everyone wants you dead, I’ve been there once
Using the Booster Course Pass end credits to give finish the video while talking was a very nice touch. I really liked it 😊
"no one is forcing me to watch this video" he says at 5:39, while the trained sniper sits outside my window
just so anyone's curious, when he mentions every time he talks about graphics in his wave 5 review at 3:33, here's all the points that he talks that aren't graphics (about the track he's talking of course, not something like the names of the tracks or comparing to another track)
Athens dash:
Has alternative routes that add a lot of diversity to the track
The layout is also a bit janky
Complains that the ramps are an issue
Multiple giant hitboxes
Complains about halfpipes and the camera of the halfpipes
Daisy Cruiser:
Complains about how it’s braindead because you don’t longer have to avoid the pool
Complains about the removal of the life buoys
The soundtrack is a banger
Moonview Highway:
Likes the addition of the cars from mario kart 8
Talks about the layout
(not even mentions the graphics here)
Squeaky Clean Sprint:
He likes the theme
Talks about how he likes all alternative paths
Music is good too
The mushroom route that connects to the main route (makes the player do a blind jump)
No use of antigrav
Los angeles laps:
Comments on the use of a good halfpipe
Talks about the alternative routes again
(this one is the one where he mentions graphics the most by far)
Sunset wilds:
Talks about the absence of the tents
Simplifying the layout for no reason
Koopa Cape:
All of the halfpipes suck
Bad camera
Bad music
Vancouver velocity:
(NOTHING, HE ONLY TALKS ABOUT THE GRAPHICS)
For vancouver, he actually partially mentions how all the city courses feel pretty interchangeable implying that Vancouver is nothing that you wouldn't expect from the average city
Gonna miss your review of the booster packs but I’ve loved coming along for this ride❤
I'm SOO glad I'm not the only person who adores SNES Bowser Castle 3.
Few notes on my end bc I feel like it:
- Daisy Circuit felt like a WASTE to me.

Ive personally enjoy all your comments and critiques I agree and I still love the review and the game

Do not tell me that Daisy Cruiser or the bathroom race look as good as Ribbon Road or Cheep Cheep Beach, it's RIDICULOUS. The recency bias plus hardcore nostalgia with Nintendo truly affects people's point of view I guess.

Damn, Kermit really has been on your back about this dlc.
This video is basically shutting down every single hater and I'm all here for it 🎉
Now that every track has been released, my biggest problem is that MARIO KART 8 has 5 Rainbow roads and only 2 Bowsers castles.
I really don't understand why they didn't add one to moon cup
I guess they assumed that it’s much easier to differentiate between different rainbow roads thanks to all the different road textures
I've been waiting for your review.
Your past videos on the Booster Course Pass have been fair. Sure, you've been critical on the visuals, but that didn't stop me from having a good time watching.

Good job, Silokhawk!
Can't wait for the Nintendo Switch 2 launching with Mario Kart 8 Deluxer.
And the game will have 192 tracks
And I think this last wave has finally done that so I'm really happy about that ^^
They didn't didn't add the sunset to Sunset Wilds while the Wave 2 update made the Coconut Mall cars move.
I'm gonna miss this era of ur channel I just hope the next Mario Kart has a ton of DLC too
This could have easily been a 15 minute video with a warning in the beginning without a yap session
If you don't want context you can just watch 1:26 - 3:02 and 5:42 - the end.
You're only missing about 4 minutes and there's timestamps for a reason my guy.
Yeah basically that. AND by the way, MK8/MK8DX as a whole is GIANT
I do personally prefer 3DS RR's textures, the problem i have with Wii RR and the rest are tiles
it makes the Rainbow Roads look slightly less Rainbow -ish
while this is some sort of water texture which is more unique
3DS Rainbow Road looks more blue-ish in MK8
While I think both 3DS and Wii RR look absolutely phenomenal, I definitely agree on the other RRs
I get WHY 8 and SNES look more artificial, but that doesn't mean I like it
THANK you for giving us your honest thoughts over the past two years despite the negativity. You always help me crystallize and understand what my OWN thoughts and opinions are about these courses, whether it’s because I agree with you or because I couldn’t agree less 😂 Couldn’t be happier to agree to disagree about video games, I hope Reddit catches on!
I dont watch this to create an opinion or judge yours, I just think its cool to hear you talking about games I like
i've enjoyed following this series as the waves have been released! very much agree with the closing sentiment that despite the lack of effort, the bcp is still very fun and worth the money. although honestly it just made me want mario kart 9 even more since none of these tracks were really that groundbreaking from a visual or design sense
in the wave or the pass
@@biivamunner3122 whole pass
Let's all say F to Piranha Plant Pipeline
Real shame so many people were just crapping on you. I mildly enjoyed some of your video before, but what really showed me that you're a great creator was your review of Mario Kart Wii. In that video I was ready to break out the good ol' pitchfork and torch and yet, I was able to completely agree with every point you made. You're an excellent creator, and the people that were angry with you were not in any way justified in their actions.
You should just ignore those people hating. Talking about it isn't going to help and just makes the video less enjoyable.
Great video! You have a good critical eye that is observant but also fair. Keep up the great content!
Nice video with honesty fair criticisms
Honestly one of the first videos i always click on first if i see it before any other youtuber. Love your unbiased true opinions 🙌
Super Mario Kart sounding Ending that Staff Credits is. Along with the Medley.
I can't believe so many people were flipping out over valid constructive criticism
Jackbox games fans:
"Wheres ur party pack 10 review?"
Guys just wait
I fully agree with everything said here! The fact that the tracks are just ripped from tour sort of devalues the changes that people only find out about because of the booster pass, but nobody with a switch even plays tour so the changes ARE new to them, and I think that's where the argument of "You should talk more about the gameplay changes" comes from. I'm not gonna say the argument has validity though, it's very short-sighted.
Sorry guys I fell into a coma as soon as SilicaHook uttered the word “textures”. Is there a lore reason why he hates the graphics? Am I stupid?
I like that all the rainbow roads the rainbow you drive on look different so as a result i see 3DS rainbow road having a lot of blue a good thing because it makes it stand out.
In defense of "blue" 3DS Rainbow Road, the Wii Rainbow Road always looked more pink to me
I hate how people get when people speak their mind when they have flaws about something they love.

I wonder if he ever saw they implemented the burning up effect when falling off of Wii Rainbow Road from Wii
You can take that last jump on Rosalina's Ice World without a mushroom but you have to do a semi-advanced mini turbo hop thing. Many people can't do it and I know that isnt the point of what you were saying, I just wanted to let you know for your own play if you didn't know already
I was waiting for this
11:48 DS Mario Circuit would like a word with you
I enjoyed watching these series of video from Silok mainly because he would perfectly portray how I felt about the booster courses.

Yey!!! New silohawk video :D
