Hands down! This is the best practice chanter I've ever played. One of the best chanters full stop, nevermind just a 'practice' chanter. I play Bagpipes, smallpipes, border pipes, and I began on uilleann pipes. I bought one of these Long, cocobolo practice chanters, and my goodness, I knew straight away! a beautiful resonance, and uniform buzz took it from the top of the chanter to the bottom. Like a bumble bee, it warmed up, and came alive in my hands. Sweet, rich, deep, velvet warm and soft, but not too soft... not too loud either. As he says here, you want a BALANCED chanter, not sharp at the top, and flat at the bottom. When you play this, you will realize how shite, most of the practice chanters you've been playing till now are, not in tune, and hugely dependent on a decent reed to save it. This hits that sweet spot perfectly. And no messing around with the reed. The reed it arrived with worked perfectly, and I ordered 3 spares,,, all of which just worked beautifully straight away! all sounded equal. This should be considered a true instrument in its own right, not just a gap filler to your big pipes. One last thing, I have actually put my chanter into a set of uilleann+borderpipe drones, and I've tuned the drones to it... sounds amazing! I have now, like a bellows blown hybrid of uilleann pipes/border/smallpipes with this long cocobolo practice chanter, working perfectly!! I'm astounded, as i say, a proper instrument in its own right. I'm sure it would sound as good with a set of smallpipe drones too. The sound on this video doesn't do it justice. Treat yourself to an instrument for life, and you will have renewed excitement in your playing and practice. 100% Happy!
Thank you, to all the lads at Gibson, from Ireland.

Great presentation laddy… As a guitarist, and dare I say, bagpipe beginner… Lol. Well, this is very important for me. Additionally, Cocobolo makes a great Tonewood for aguitars it and mahogany are my favorite.

As a total pre-beginner, all the chanters sounds the same to my ears. I am saving to get me a Gibson practice chanter.

if the point of this was to "prove" they all sound the same...long or short or whatever material...he did. except the last was, IMHO,... slightly sharp on hi A.

      m. achnel each of the different materials have different tonal qualities, and are very difficult for someone to pick out by ear if do not have a well trained ear. Each of the practice chanters were also in the same key and besides the short practice chanter being slightly sharper in pitch and, the only other difference you can easily hear would be the sweetness of the cocabola, and the mild harshness of the Blackwood, the the even more harsh polypenco.
