James is such a bully, and Severus, already getting abused by his father gets bullied by James, making Severus somebody that bullies others. My fav parts is in the beginning where he's giving a flower to lily - so cute! I like the parts where harry and Severus are together, it makes me happy I also like the one part with bloody Remus (poor him)

Lily made excuses to her friends for years just to hang out with and be friends with him, and for trying to defend him while he was being bullied and humiliated by James and Sirius, she got called the n-word in-return. Later on, Snape would regret it, but he's also treated Lily poorly posthumously. Most specifically, how he treated her son Harry, who had never properly met his parents, nor asked or made the choice to look like James, nor had anything to do with Snape's rivalry with the marauders. Yet, Snape immediately assumes this malnourished child is the root of all arrogance and evil. Other than Harry, Snape bullied other children. So really he was just a pathetic cold loner who bullied children for his own gratification. mind you as well, book Snape was not the menacing but calm Snape that movie/Alan Rickman's Snape was. He bullied children to even the point of what you could consider mental and physical abuse, especially Harry above all others. No matter what degree of abuse, being neglected and abused as a child, and being bullied and humiliated by others, does not give you any sound right to do the same to other children in your adulthood, who as the same are supposed to look up to you, as an adult. Or encourage other bullies like Draco to do the same to others. Nonetheless, the complications was that yes, Snape was heroic in many ways, and risked his neck numerous times for Harry. though it seemed he only did it for Lily, a childhood crush who had moved on from him a long time ago. And other than his love for Lily, which he expressed passively through Harry, he was otherwise aggressively hateful towards Harry, all because he looked like James and was a reminder that his bully married his crush, which Harry had neither control over. Harry is not a tool for Snape to posthumously justify "equalities" with James. If anything, Lily would've despised him further for his treatment of Harry, so on that department, he didn't really improve from his younger days. From what I've seen, most fans would interpret this as "tragic" and "beautiful", but looking at it another way, never moving on from a now dead woman/girl you treated terribly in many ways (and still continue to) just comes off as pathetic and obsessive.
for the longest time, I never agreed with Harry naming his middle child Albus Severus Potter. not just because the name sounds bad, but neither Dumbledore nor Snape were figures that Harry should've respected or honoured to such a personal level. like, it's his own child's name for god's sake. maybe a statue or a street named after them (I'm sure Dumbledore already has some), but not your own kid's name.

Severus was such a sad person, in backstory and character. It doesn't excuse the terrible way he treated student's, but it does give insight.
