The thing is, you don't even have to be a Hip fan to feel this loss. Every Canadian knows who Gord is. Who he was. What he did. Hearing Ron talk about him this way just makes it harder.
"It's a grateful day." Way to keep the focus on the positive side Ron. Thanks for the reminder to celebrate Gord Downie's life. Listening to Road Apples non-stop!
Ron himself is, if not our Shakespeare, one of our poets. He is always so well-spoken and eloquent and open. If you want anyone to honour someone special, Ron's the guy. 💔💔💔
definitely a essential part of Canadian life. The Hip will always be what Canada is, will be and what life in Canada is all about. Any one of their songs when listened to on a cold dark night brings back special memories of growing up on the prairies.Driving along on a highway at night listening to their greatest hits CD is part of what Canada is all about. thank you
thank you Ron, thank you. Gord will be missed so much, ive been crying all day, on this sad day. R.I.P Gord, canada is singing your praise tonight my friend. You gave us some of the most memorable music.
Watching this just brought me to tears. Gord meant a lot to us people that live in Buffalo since we are close to the us/Canadian border we were able to pick up and listen to Canadian radio stations and TV channels . Gord downie represented love.
I love that Ron is a FAN, you can tell he genuinely listens to & loves the music, & he pays attention to the lyrics. And thanks Ron, for pointing out what I'd failed to notice: the Tragically Hip are the same size as a hockey team. One of those fun little details...
Love the tears at the end... It's important to know that even the strongest poets or spokespersons mourn losses too. "There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love." -Washington Irving Miss you Gord. Rest well.
Gord was and always will be the epitome of what being Canadian is . I have the utmost admiration for him. Like many other Canadians; the hip has been almost the soundtrack of my life. Ron said it perfectly. Gord, you will be forever missed.
What a life to celebrate. Gord seemed like a great person first that transcended nationality... Of course he was Canadian but I wish more people outside our borders new who he was and maybe his legacy could be a shining example for hope/change/acceptance, etc. going forward.
Music the only true magic in the world. Gord Downie understood this I think better than anyone and it shines through in the lyrics. From a Southern Neighbor, sorry for your loss Canada
I think I will mourn Gord everyday for the rest of my life. As I became Canadian the Hip and Gord were my soundtrack in that process. Call it subliminal, but I learned what it means to be Canadian and human through his songs. What a man...thank you Ron
this plus ron's steve dangle podcast appearence made me realize what gem this man is.. being from austria i rarely get to see him on tv and when it happens it's mostly coaches corner where he's kinda in the background of rumblin', stompin' don..
if Don Cherry got Fired then Ron Maclean should of been FIRED .Ron Maclean you are a WEASEL .About Gord Downie now there is a Real HERO i miss him Prayers to Gords Family
I love Canadian music, but I don't think I ever have or ever will love a band like I love The Tragically Hip. Gord may be gone, but their music and Gord's legacy lives on. Ron I don't think anyone could have honoured him better than you did. Thank-you
The thing is, you don't even have to be a Hip fan to feel this loss. Every Canadian knows who Gord is. Who he was. What he did. Hearing Ron talk about him this way just makes it harder.
Ron has always been a top notch respectable man.

Thanks for the reminder to celebrate Gord Downie's life.

Holy! Teared up when Ron got choked up at the end. Thanks Ron and thanks Gord. You're both national treasures. Rest easy in Fiddler's Green, Gordie.
Beautifully put Ron. RIP GORD
Ron himself is, if not our Shakespeare, one of our poets. He is always so well-spoken and eloquent and open. If you want anyone to honour someone special, Ron's the guy. 💔💔💔
You are so right. Ron is so easy to listen to...he thoughtful compassionate & articulate..
Unlike Don.
I didn't really appreciate it until now.
Or if you want to be betrayed, Ron is your man.
@@roleary9637 not being a stand up guy when his friend needed one was very disappointing. I never thought Ron would do that to Don.

Gord, you will be forever missed.
I have only known Ron as a sportscaster, and it is pleasing to see that he is such a good guy all around. Thanks, Gord.
What a life to celebrate. Gord seemed like a great person first that transcended nationality... Of course he was Canadian but I wish more people outside our borders new who he was and maybe his legacy could be a shining example for hope/change/acceptance, etc. going forward.
I put Ron up there with Gord as far as being a well loved and respected Canadian. They both have represented our nation so well for decades.
What an amazing interview. Ron is not some fairweather guy, but a true fan as always a beautiful eloquent teacher here.
Amazing interview. thank you and thank you Gord
What a great loss:( rest your soul Gord:)🙏
Gord and Ron mean so much to Canadians...So to hear Ron speak so beautifully about a beautiful man means alot.
Soo sad..going to miss him
He was a great guy for sure…and so are you Ron

And Ron is our Brutus.
Sad but true
I think I will mourn Gord everyday for the rest of my life.

What a man...thank you Ron
Escape is at Hand for the Travellin Man is such a good song. Top 5 Hip song. RIP Gord.
I was ok then Ron cried and it all hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm going to go listen to lil bones and take a moment. By Gord..
100% agree

Go Canada. Where patriotism means gratitude, duty, honesty, and ongoing work...as opposed to blind flag worship.

Hopefully, Gord and Jim Lahey (John Dunsworth) are having a 'drinky poo' somewhere ... R.I.P. boys, you'll be missed.
Woah, this was really good, gave me the chills.
isn;t this the guy that threw Cherry under the bus
Ron is the man... he is a huge Hip fan which makes him the coolest.
I'm pretty sure coaches corner will be a "not wanna miss" episode tomorrow night
Haven't heard or seen it put any better than this. He even gets misty at the end. Such an honest, sincere take on Gord.
We show our strength when we need to... always have. But Gord's strength was something special. Something to remember...
Ron MacLean... another great Canadian.
Leonard Cohen won a Juno for best male vocalist. His statement was "Only in Canada". He really got it.
😞

Driving through farming community’s south of Ottawa… New Orleans is sinking!
