The thing is, you don't even have to be a Hip fan to feel this loss. Every Canadian knows who Gord is. Who he was. What he did. Hearing Ron talk about him this way just makes it harder.

    "It's a grateful day."
Way to keep the focus on the positive side Ron.
Thanks for the reminder to celebrate Gord Downie's life.

Holy! Teared up when Ron got choked up at the end. Thanks Ron and thanks Gord. You're both national treasures. Rest easy in Fiddler's Green, Gordie.

Ron himself is, if not our Shakespeare, one of our poets. He is always so well-spoken and eloquent and open. If you want anyone to honour someone special, Ron's the guy. 💔💔💔

@@roleary9637 not being a stand up guy when his friend needed one was very disappointing. I never thought Ron would do that to Don.

definitely a essential part of Canadian life. The Hip will always be what Canada is, will be and what life in Canada is all about. Any one of their songs when listened to on a cold dark night brings back special memories of growing up on the prairies.Driving along on a highway at night listening to their greatest hits CD is part of what Canada is all about. thank you

Watching this just brought me to tears. Gord meant a lot to us people that live in Buffalo since we are close to the us/Canadian border we were able to pick up and listen to Canadian radio stations and TV channels . Gord downie represented love.

I love that Ron is a FAN, you can tell he genuinely listens to & loves the music, & he pays attention to the lyrics. And thanks Ron, for pointing out what I'd failed to notice: the Tragically Hip are the same size as a hockey team. One of those fun little details...

Love the tears at the end... It's important to know that even the strongest poets or spokespersons mourn losses too.
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love." -Washington Irving
    Miss you Gord. Rest well.

Gord was and always will be the epitome of what being Canadian is . I have the utmost admiration for him.
Like many other Canadians; the hip has been almost the soundtrack of my life.
    Ron said it perfectly.
Gord, you will be forever missed.

What a life to celebrate. Gord seemed like a great person first that transcended nationality... Of course he was Canadian but I wish more people outside our borders new who he was and maybe his legacy could be a shining example for hope/change/acceptance, etc. going forward.

I think I will mourn Gord everyday for the rest of my life.
As I became Canadian the Hip and Gord were my soundtrack in that process.
Call it subliminal, but I learned what it means to be Canadian and human through his songs.
    What a man...thank you Ron

Gord may be gone, but their music and Gord's legacy lives on.
Ron I don't think anyone could have honoured him better than you did. Thank-you
