You really need to tell the story of the man behind the test case, Louis Andre Martinet. He was by turns a legislator, lawyer, medical doctor, member of the NOLA school board, Latin, French and medical school teacher and the leading figure in the comite des citoyens (although he refused to take an official title to allay fears that people would think he was somehow profiting from the test case). He is a much more significant player than Plessy whose role (according to Medley) “…consisted of four tasks: get the ticket, get on the train, get arrested, and get booked.” Plessy was not in any physical danger as the whole affair had been carefully staged, even to the point of the committee hiring a detective to arrest him (the railroad did not want to be sued which might have happened if their employee attempted to remove Plessy. Martinet on the other hand was threatened and at least one attempt was made on his life. Martinet’s work for equality did not end when the Plessy decision was made as he continued to press for equality, although the political and judicial climate turned vigorously against his efforts. He would be a much better person to profile…
Only one stood up for a thing know in philosophy for thousands of years. Equality is the goal of just societies. Without it you don't get Justice. You must seak Fraternity, or brotherhood to see toward Equality. In decisions: Justice.
