Jokes aside, if you stop to think about Genos for a second, he is the saddest character in the series. He never wins the fights that matter but always gets up to protect people and always gets stronger no matter what. True hero.
I'm sure Saitama is definitely the saddest character in OPM. But yes, both him and Genos are true heroes.

Isn't that the entire point of the show, Genos would be the main character in any similar manga/anime, always getting strong to face the challenge. It's just that an anomaly like Saitama exists and makes him (and the entire genre), redundant.

Wasn't he winning until he deliberately tanked an acid ball to save a little girl? That isn't so much letting his guard down as sacrificing himself

@@spiritvdc5109 He was winning, but even if he didn’t had sacrificed himself for the little girl he would’ve lost. The sea king received thousands of chained combos by genos yet he wasn’t harmed in a fatal way, The sea king only got stronger. So either way, genos would’ve lost due to the fact none of genos attacks was causing him any fatal damage. Genos would’ve run out of energy and gotten tired even before coming close to killing the Sea King. If he hadn’t sacrificed himself, the fight would’ve probably gone for a little while until genos is driven to commit self destruct but Saitama would’ve interrupt it and beat the sea king, genos had no way of winning this fight unfortunately, especially since it was raining and the rain powers up the sea king endurance and speed, The sea king beats genos in every way. Endurance, Speed, power etc.

Alright, so I'mma call this here, so when it comes true, ya'll can hit this comment.
Here's the ending to One Punch Man.
All of One Punch Man was a simulation, to train a new conscious, sentient artificial intelligence.
In the simulation, the AI is Genos.
The reason he wants to study the "Master" is because Saitama is just a stand-in for humans, when they pull the Genos AI out of the One Punch universe/simulation, Genos will need to realize that all humans are represented by the Master (Saitama), in order to form the relationship with humans that they want the AI to strive from.
