I believe Vecna was referring to Will when he said to El, "Your friends have already lost." When Will itches his neck, I feel there is a part of Vecna inside of him, and Vecna can only die if Will dies, therefore Vecna's comment to Eleven comes full circle.

Oh that’s smart, I heard somewhere that Vecna’s life-force is attached to something maybe it’s will. And unless his life force item or person is killed he can’t be so maybe he sacrifices himself.
If El died, my heart would break because that would mean Hopper would have to lose another daughter.
If Will died, my heart would break for Joyce because that woman has been through enough. Will has been through enough. I want the Byers family to get their happy ending. And it would probably hurt Mike a lot because he's been neglecting Will a lot lately. You never know how much you need something until it's gone.
If Steve dies..actually. I'm not even gonna speak that into existence.

I think Max is probably the safest since they already tried to kill her twice, and y’know, they wouldn’t revive her just to not have her wake up. Although I highly doubt she’ll wake up fully unscathed. I think that she’d have a permanent disability caused by Vecna’s attack; either she’d be unable to walk or she’d be permanent blind.
plus everyone loves her acting i really doubt they'd kill her off

I've been wrong before, but the Duffer Brothers keep talking about Max as if she's dead...I don't understand if they're just talking in shorthand because her situation is complicated or she is actually dead...I feel like she's not dead and is pretty safe, but Duffer Brothers, man...
I find it hard to believe both El and Will will die. Potentially one of them, but I just don’t see them having both Hopper and Joyce losing a child by the end of the series.

I think Mike and Will are in real danger, I feel like maybe one of them might sacrifice themselves for the other, I don’t think Max is gonna die, I just feel like since she already died why would they just kill her again, just would feel pointless, like you said, same as Hoppers “death” in Season 3, they weren’t about to kill him again
El and Mike are literally the safest characters out of all of them
The last thing the Duffers want is to kill both of them especially when they're separated every season post Season 1
s5 is the last season so they could make a dramatic ending by killing el when they finally reunite

yeah, El has to be pretty safe. Simply because she's also the new daughter for Hopper. Most characters are safe. If they were going to kill some of these characters, then they would already have done that. As sad as some of these character death has been, most are a new character or secondary character.

I feel like they won’t kill Will. I just feel like they physically cannot give Joyce a happy ending if they kill Will or Jonathan. I mean we all saw how wrecked she was in season 1, and even after everyone thought he was dead she held out hope. I feel like they would want to give Joyce a happy ending, and if they kill Will, they can’t give her that

Imo it wouldn't make sense to kill off el. Her whole life has basically been trauma, and hopper would lose a 2nd daughter, mike wouldn't be able to live with himself. I could keep going🤣

That’s the exact reason I think she’ll live, I think Will dying is the more likely option, and because of that Jonathan is fully safe because they wouldn’t kill both Joyce’s children, I also say Nancy is safe as well because Jonathan losing his brother and girlfriend would be too much. It’s honestly anyones guess who will doe, it’s completely up in the air

So I don’t think El would die because Hopper already lost a daughter and they both went through so much and so I don’t think it would make sense to kill her or him off as they already have thier arcs that made them grow from thier past trauma. And especually Hopper who had grown so much and deserves a happy ending and a second chance more than anyone and for that to happen El needs to live. I think the point of Hopper and Els relationship and hoppers character in general to to prove how he can rise out of the darkest period of his life after finding people he cares about and lead a new one
Nobody is fully safe, not even Dustin 😳 Dustin has trauma of Eddie’s death now so he could sacrifice himself to save Steve so another one of his big brother figures don’t die

I have a really strong feeling that Steve is going to die. They have to break up the love triangle between him Nancy and Jonathan, since Nancy and Jonathan are on thin ice with there relationship I think Steve’s death will pull them back together.
honestly if they kill off eleven they can’t kill anyone else. she’s like the most famous character from the show so they are either going to kill her ans nobody else, or they will kill some side main characters like murray or jonathan.
One of the duffer bros said in an interview recently that Steve’s bat bite isn’t what would kill him if he were to die and that he isn’t infected at all 💯

Robin, Max, Hopper, and Steve are ganna live because they’ve already missed the best opportunity to kill them so it’d be anticlimactic. I think because hopper is safe so is el, because there’s no way they’re going to do that. Johnathan is maybe. Idrk. I think will is going to make it. Same with all the kids. Maybe Mike might die. Nancy is so screwed though her death would be tragic, they set up a future for her (college), and it might spur on Mike. Also she’s such a badass that it’d 100% see her sacrificing herself on the front lines.

I'm going to poke a bit of a hole in El dying, stay with me here. If Vecna can use his powers without harming himself and El is supposed to become powerful enough to defeat him. I feel like it makes no logical sense for her to die killing him? I think will is more likely between the two. It would mean that Joyce has felt the same pain as hopper and while it would SUCK, watching him help her cope with that pain would resonate emotionally.
Steve or Jonathan will die, bc S5 will use a love triangle, and one of the two will sacrifice himself for Nancy. Same for Murray: He could sacrifice himself for Joyce and Hopper, so that they can finally live in peace.
EVERYONE else will live - bc no other death would have an impact or make sense: put ur business caps on, guys ;-)

Because of the Nancy love triangle, one of those three is gone. I think it's Steve.
If you look at the final shot of S4, it seems that all of the endgame couples are standing together. El moves to the front. I think early on in S5, she will break up with Mike and then when Will thinks he has to die to save everyone, she is going to sacrifice herself to give her brother the ending he deserves... to finally be happy.

Steve, Will, Hopper, Jonathan, and Murray are the people I think are most likely to die
Steve because he’s one of the most liked characters and always puts himself in danger to protect everyone
Will because he hasn’t done much after season 2 and it was kind of hinted at the end of episode 9 that he would have a bigger role in season 5
Hopper is the least likely to die on this list but I think he will die to save El, I don’t think El will die because that would ruin Hoppers and Elevens story. Hopper would lose a 2nd daughter after the the character development he’s had because of El and El has never had a good father before Hopper so it would make sense for Hopper to die for El, but I doubt it will happen because of the fake out death he already had
Jonathan because he hasn’t had a big part of the show since season 2 and they hinted at Nancy and Steve getting back together and Jonathan had been lying to Nancy and has reconnected with Will in season 4 so I think he’d die for Will or Nancy to make up for the lying he’s done
Murray because I think he’s the perfect likable character to die, most people like him but not to the level as the others so I think it could be a great way to raise the stakes by killing him off
I would be fine with Will, Jonathan, Murray and Mike dying because I like them but not as much as the others (especially Mike, he’s really downgraded in the past seasons)
