@@miertschin7547 just telling the truth as I know it. I’ll be taking several tours, already got the ticket for my first on, maybe at someone our paths will cross
@miertschin7547 are you a member of the battleship texas foundation? Threatening someone over their opinions is completed unjustified. There is no reason to act the way your acting right now man.
As a Us Navy veteran, all i can say is people should boycot the ever living hell out of that stupid restaurant. I, personally, would love to have my view "blocked" by a battleship!!!! Big Tex looking good!
Oh no it’s going to block that restaurant’s view of Pelican Island and all the oil rigs at the dry dock. Are you f***ing kidding me! Looking out of a restaurant and seeing a classic battleship over a bunch of dry docked oil rigs for me is a no brainer.
As a Coast Guard Veteran, I can say these things. 1. We helped extinguish a fire in the engine room in 1979, We also stopped a flood of fire coming from the Shell Oil Docks in 79. The Coast Guard has responded to several calls of aid to the Texas, including flooding from leaks. 2. I have NEVER really gotten to look at the Recipitating engine. It in itself is the most Historic feature of the ship and the only real reason she has survived. 3. If Neglected or Mismanaged... The Navy WILL take her to Brownsville for SCRAP! She is not just a Historic Monument... She is still TECHNICALLY considered a Weapon of War and will be disposed of as such. Please do not lag! This Vessel is a symbol of Texas, It epitomizes our Texas Attitude of Come and Take it! Please do not allow any excuse not to secure the future of the LAST remaining Dreadnought on Earth. The Crew deserves it, History deserves it, Future Generations deserve it, This Grand Lady deserves it!
I agree with everything you say except the Navy reclaiming the ship. She belongs to the state of Texas not the Navy. This is why she cannot be called the USS Texas, because she is not a USS. She is simply Battleship Texas. That being said I am sickened as to the poor care she has been given over the years, as I am with the poor care the San Jacinto Park has received. Heads should roll over this lack of care for such historical items. SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE in Texas politics could make a name for themselves by taking on the shameful care these two historical items have received.
@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Agreed but there is fine print in the contract when she was turned over to Texas. She is still classified... no matter how disarmed or disabled... as a weapon of war.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Keith, I think Rodney is correct. If the ship cannot be cared for and becomes so run down that she becomes a hazard and "disgraces" the U.S. Navy, the Navy can repossess the ship and dispose of her. There are a small number of museum ships including submarine ex-USS Ling that are in danger of being repossessed and scrapped. I for one would HATE to see this happen to ex-USS Texas (BB 35,) especially since so much money and work is being invested in her. Repossession by the Navy is one of the clauses in the contracts between the Navy and the organizations that accept the donation and, I believe, is in public law.
This is heart breaking. BB Texas is apart of this country's history, apart of world history. We are failing as Americans if we cant get this ship saved. I've read all about the ongoing talks with Galveston and can't figure out what the hell is wrong with them. Those businesses complaining about BB Texas "ruining the view" will never get a dime from me. Makes my blood boil. I hope people boycott "Katie's Seafood Restaurants and Market"
I cannot believe we're having all these problems finding a home for the TEXAS. It would seem to me people would be fighting tooth and nail to get her instead of shutting her out. Boy, if we could get her up here to Lubbock!

The lighting that day really the the ship appears more blue than it is. I have noticed it on the past as well. The way the light hits the ship seems to slightly enrich the blue shade
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan This is a take on the USN Measure 21 camouflage scheme. The "Navy Blue" that was used would appear to be almost black in some conditions, making the ship harder to spot at night. The scheme gave the USS New Jersey her nickname "Black Snake" when she wore it during WWII.
I truly hope the younger generation will appreciate Battleship Texas and the men and women who sailed with her through two world wars. The story of this ship should never be condemned to just a memory. You have to step foot on this ship to appreciate her. I toured her in dry dock and will continue to support Battleship Texas any way I can.
Tough decision, but one I had not considered: The restaurants. I fondly recall having lunch when on a date to tour the Elissa. I don't recall which restaurant it was, but only that the food was good and the view was outstanding. I love watching ships and tugs. I love the Battleship Texas, most of all; but understand staring at a wall of steel instead of the moving vista of the channel may come at a cost to those restaurants. On the other hand, when I make a plan to take a tour of the Texas-- wherever her home may be, I'll almost certainly choose a restaurant at her berth. Thanks for these views-- even though I'm currently enjoying them while having lasagna at home rather than seafood.
@ It would bring me. And I can easily see having after-supper coffee and/or drinks on a rooftop patio if that would be high enough to provide a view over the deck.
Call me crazy but I'd like to see her sea worthy and sailed several times a year. I used to work on a off shore sysmigraph vessel and saw the Elisa under full sail as we were getting close to Galveston. It would be amazing to see the Texas steaming across the gulf. She wasn't ment to sit at dock and rust, she was ment to sail.
Not crazy at all, we would all love to see that, problem is that the Navy made it clear when turning her over to the state that in no way could stream or compressed air be put into her systems to make her operational. Her engines have since become seized, also major wiring has been cut out of her by the navy. Unfortunately, without a tub boat she ain’t going no where
So glad they mentioned the bathtub wake thing. Imagine how many wakes hit her hull in the Ship Channel. Give her a respectable place in the water...but please let her rest calmly in that place. Who knows...someday we may need to load for active duty once again. also, you would lower her repair costs to her hull in calmer waters...maybe even salt-free. But then...I would really be dreaming if you built her a special closed off harbor. Sail on, Mighty Texas!
They reversed course on delaying the negotiations after a firestorm of negative feedback came in from the disbelief that they couldn't get this done. Regardless, it seems to have re-lit the fire to get this deal over the goal line. Whether it's Pier 15 or further down at 20/21 is fine, it basically means she'll be right there in the historical district, walking distance for tourist traffic, etc.
@@5thGenNativeTexan in that general area is the only thing that makes sense to me for it to be able to financially support itself. And it has to be on that side of the island to avoid direct hits from hurricanes. On that side of the island, she will be protected by the landmass to some extent. Dang sure don’t want her breaking free during a hurricane like the USS Stewart did during hurricane Ike.
She absolutely looks great, compared to the condition that she had become just a short time ago. Thank you for restoring her beauty. Even if she isn’t completely finished yet.
Good morning sir. Obviously you have seen my verbal reactions to some of the good and bad things on the rebuild of this old heroic vessel. My concern is this 75=00 fee to go aboard to see her in all her glory. How much of this is gonna go to the vessel itself. The foundation that is suppose to take care of her has already proven it's lacking in maintaining it What do you think a our this fee. Seems a little steep and how many people will be willing to spend that
I believe that all of their souvenirs are extremely steep. Some of the battleship cutouts they have they sell for $175. They say they sold 10 a day that $1700 but what if they marked them down to $100 and sold 30 a day that’s $3000. Are those numbers accurate? No, they’re just guesses but anytime you sell something at a discounted rate your naturally going to sell more of them than you would at the regular rate. There have been times I was going to buy one of the cut outs, but I could not justify the expenditure even knowing the money was going towards the ship that is just a lot of money out of a budget with times being what they are And we all know it takes no time to cut those things out as they are cut by machine.

They have said that moving her there is not an option as the two would compete for tourist dollars. That makes since I guess, it just blows my mind that this was not settled before the move. I am still sure she will end up in Galveston but it sure seems like poor planning, and when you are spending 70+ million dollars there is no room for poor decisions
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan So they move it from an dismally unattractive area on the Houston Ship Channel to an equally unattractive area in the Port of Galveston. Seriously? A dead-end industrial road with the ugly patch of broken concrete in the water next to it? Cruise ships, tankers and rusting jack-up rigs towering over it. It needs to be in an attractive location or people will not go. Offatts Bayou is deep, maybe they could get it in there near Moody Gardens. Kemah Boardwalk would be great.
Thank you for keeping us up to date on this. It's not like the battleship foundation does. They really need to take a page from battleship New Jersey on how to use the social media.
Very well done Keith. Another comment I responded to made great points. And I agree with his comments and added that it costs alot to maintain the ship and the location for it's permanent home should be in a place that has lot's of foot traffic. Even after it's completely finished there's a daily expenses that has to be raised to maintain the ship and wherever it's placed. Now my concern is how many FOUNDATION boards members draw a large salary to run the daily operations of the ship??
I just did the math, between the three paid employees of the foundation. They are earning $1473 per day seven days a week 365 days a year. For an organization that relies heavily on volunteers and calls upon volunteers regularly, it seems that $1500 a day for three individuals is an extraordinary amount of money. It’s not a government agency, but it seems to be run as efficiently as one.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Agree those paid should be half that for 3 a day. A paid guide might make that in a week 20 hrs. So those 3 could fund a staff of 6 each. Just ruff figures in my head and I bet they are desk bound more than half the time they are working.
I would love to have copies of those if you would be so kind to email them to me. I plan to put together a video of what the Texas look like in the past and what that exact same area looks like today. Ajeepadroneandanoldman@yahoo.com
She's beautiful, and you'd think any city in Texas would be thrilled to have her. If y'all can't find BB-35 a home in the Lone Star State, just send her up here to South Carolina. 😅
Wow, that's a brite blue! All of the WWII era photos I have seen are in black and white. So was that the color she finished the war with? I've read that a blue was in the camouflage scheme, but was it that vivid? Looks good ! I bet it blended in with those blue waters of Pacific.
I dont understand...have we not been mooring ships for hundreds of years? I wouldn't think getting engineering drawings for this would be that big of a deal
I’m with you, brother, I would not have thought this whole thing was such a big deal. It’s turned into a fiasco too much red tape and too many people wanting to be important. There is nothing that should have not been lined out before they ever moved the ship from San Jacinto.
She's beautiful I'm a truck driver out of Ohio and I've toured her twice I lived in Texas in 80 and my youngest son was born there and we took the tour together I love that they need to take care of that old ship my dad was a navy and he joined the Navy in 39 and bought all through World War II he was on tin cans in the Pacific DD 363
@@williamhatmaker2202 my dad was also on a tin can DD 747 Samuel Moore. Maybe you guys can make it down to see her again once she finds a new home. They are saying currently that is going to be toward the end of 2025.
Thank you I appreciate the two of you watching. I have a question you may be able to help me with before. I answered your question. Everyone that watches my videos according to my analytics is older than 33. Do you have any idea how I might get younger people, interested in the history of where they came from? Now to answer your question the reason it cannot go back to San Jacinto is because the channel there is brackish water, which is extremely hard on the finishes of the hull. In 20 years, she would need major repairs again where she put back in that location. However, if she is in saltwater or freshwater, those problems will not arise as rapidly. Plus down in Galveston she is extremely close to shipyards, making her much easier and much cheaper to repair if and when she needs to be.
@ Thank you for explaining, completely understandable. I’m hoping when she hinds a permanent home it will draw more attention to the ship and to your channel. I’m not familiar with drone laws, but maybe documenting off beat historical areas. Husband and I thought maybe a war movie night. Vote on a movie, watch it and do a live chat.
At least she's safe. All the political wrangling aside, Texas will find a home i imagine. She looks very nice in the fresh paint and with new decking. That window up in the tower is definitely broken, though, and needs replacing. The old girl has plenty of years left in her, and i am just happy that she won't suffer the same fate as either the SS United States or the former USS Hiddensee.
I’m sure she will still end up in the general location of pier 21. The restaurants in the area can’t take the bad press of rejecting her. I agree about her fate, the USS Kittyhawk broke my heart
With the back and forth negotiations, the huge payroll of BTF corporate personnel, and the finanical state of BTF, I am pretty concerned as well.. more so for the future. 10-15 years down the road.
I’m with you, in August 2020 the battleship Texas foundation signed a 99 year contract with the Texas parks and wildlife for stewardship of the ship. Not even five years in there already struggling so let’s say about the next 94 years. Doesn’t look pretty.
Gee Old Man, nothing like that Red Tape, I figured they had a new home for Battleship Texas already in the works. HEY, do they have all the guns that have been removed, and are they going to be recounted on the ship ? I hope so. Enjoyed your video, Thanks. Maybe you could drink some Root beer on Battleship Texas. Have a Great Sunday. 😊
I would have thought they had her a new home before they ever moved her. It only makes since to not move anything unless you know where you’re going to put it. All the guns, except the ten main guns were removed and taken offsite where they were reworked to be 100% operational, minus their firing pins. For the most part they have already all been reinstalled. I have already drank allot of root beer onboard, and will drink more.
I cannot imagine the people of Texas tossing 70 million plus dollar on her restoration efforts. Bring her to someplace that wants her. Patriots point in SC comes to mind. She should have a coast guard certificate of seaworthiness for transit to SC or put her beside USS North Carolina.
I just took a tour on 8 December, in that tour we were told that the cost has reached $80 million. That’s a big chunk of change, but there have been massive amount of work done to the ship including replacing 90% of the entire hull. She belongs to the state of Texas and not the US Navy. She will not be leaving the state. Also on the tour they told us that about 50% of the deck guns would be in fully operational condition, and that some from time to time on special occasions would have blanks fired through them. With the exception of the 10 14 inch guns.

I’m with you, brother, I still say she would bring them more business not cost them business. The view from the restaurant is a view into muddy, dirty ship channel water, and that’s not a view. In my opinion then again if somebody has never been to Galveston that may be a view to them, but they’re looking for views of saltwater restaurant. They need to head to Florida not Galveston.
I’m with you, Ryan with Battleship New Jersey understands the need for the public to be all in. Because of this he keeps the general public well informed. Something the BTF seems not to interested in doing. This may be the reason they don’t have the money they need, they treat their sources of income like they don’t matter.
Hi Keith, About 2 years ago just before the Texas left San Jacinto you did a walk around tour of the old berth. During the tour you paused at two steel teardrop shaped platforms and asked what everybody thought they might be? I know they loaded them up on the deck just forward of the quad 40 mounts near base of cranes on starboard side. I think those platforms have now been moved up onto the aft tripod mast on the lowest platform. They are visible in this video at the 6:00 minute mark. They are almost touching the legs of the tripod mast. They must be for the director or searchlights? Anyway as soon ad I spotted them I said AHA! There they are! So I wonder if you remember that video. Jerry USS PT658 crewman Portland OR PS She will always be “USS Texas” I dont care what those gubmint folks say!
You are 100% correct I noticed those as well but I was waiting to make a video on them specifically which I still plan on doing. That was an excellent catch, though I believe them to be searchlight platforms.
Texas being berthed in Galveston would have given me a reason to go. I'm not a sand and beach kind of person so I have no reason to go otherwise. Lots of places to go and eat on the water without needing to be in Galveston. Just sayin'. Will never understand why they won't just rebuild her old berth by the SJ Monument and put the ship back. There is enough land to build restaurants and shops to attract more tourism and visitors to the ship and monument museum. Hey Elon, how about you showing your love for Texas by helping take care of this historical ship instead of trying to send people off to expire on Mars?
@@michaeljohnson8002 i’m with you, Brother, I’m not a sand in beach kind of guy either. I’m much preferred mountains. Unfortunately there are none around this place. The reason she cannot go back to San Jacinto is because the agreement with the Texas parks and wildlife department was that she would not return because eventually they want to fill that area in to return the park to it. It’s 1836 look when the battle took place.. Just like any about the battleship Texas is a hole in the water to throw money into, and Texas parks and wildlife was tired of doing that.
The color in the video is slightly more blue than what it is in real life. I think it was the way the light was hitting it. I have noticed at times when I’m down there it does look bluer than it does other times.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan I think you are correct Keith, the Blue she is currently wearing is brighter than what I would expect of the "Navy Blue" called for in the various camouflage schemes worn during WWII. The proper "Navy Blue" would appear almost black in certain lighting conditions, but would turn the ship into an oven while she bakes in the summer Texas sun.
Corpus has never been on their table. They say that the two ships will compete for money costing both of them in the long run. I can see where this would happen.
I'm no Texan (although I worked there long enough to be a "legal" 🎉Texan 😅. As a Marine engineer, and someone that has dealt with "reserve ships". They should construct a permanent "drydock" to display her in full. Air is much less corrosive than sea water!
I agree with you, but their engineers say that because of the heavy armor, she needs the water pressure on the hull to keep the upper decks from collapsing down on the lower decks. That sounds a little strange to me, but I’m not an engineer.
The dry dock tours were $150. So $75 is at least cheaper than that once she gets placed in her new home, I’m sure the prices will be around $20-$25 for adults just guessing, but they will be nowhere near the current prices. They sell out every single tour. What I think they should come down on is the price of the souvenirs there are multiple souvenirs. I would have bought, but what they’re asking is just too much money.
Rest easy, Grand Lady. You spent your life SERVING, and PROTECTING the People, Property, and Liberty of the the Texian people. WE WILL NOT DESERT YOU!! I know what it means to serve your country, and the sacrifices that come with that life. Most folk see you as just an "inanimate object", or "expensive project". Those are the ones who most likely NEVER SAW MILITARY SERVICE, and as such are GROSSLY UNQUALIFIED to stand in judgment of you. TEXAS. GOD BLESS OUR BATTLESHIP TEXAS.
Well said brother, I share those same feelings. I wish they would still teach this history in school, too many young people have no idea what being an American really means. Unfortunately that means they are destined to repeat the history that ships like the Texas tried to put to rest. I too have done my share. Many young Americans know too little about too much and have no loyalty to country. Julius Caesar said it best “those who are not willing to fight, kill and die for their freedom are destined to become slave”
Honestly the Battleship Texas would be better off near Corpus Christy, that is if there is a deep enough spot for her. I know Galveston Bay gets a lot of tourist, but you have Texan’s that will not set foot in that area due to how close Houston is. If she stays anywhere near Houston, I will never visit the historic ship.
I come to Galveston often, for now I will boycott all businesses off of port industrial until they get their head out of their collective A$$es. This is Texas history, it belongs to the public and adds not distracts from the view.
@@DonaldWheelis-xb1lu I agree with you 100%. Seeing as how all those eating establishments there are extremely expensive. I do not go to them anyway. However, I think a battleship out the front door would be a huge plus to them. As a matter of fact, I can see myself going to take a tour on the Texasonce she is in her new home and stopping at the restaurant simply out of convenience if nothing else.
These businesses pay rent to Galveston port, taxes and wages. They deal with this every day and built their business before they hauled the Ship there. So Piers 19-21 is the only place in the entire Texas coastline that the ship can be placed? Also, the flow of ship traffic could harm the ship if berthed there so it may not be safe anyway. Listen to all the issues before mouthing off.
Cut off "their picturesque view of the harbor"?? Seriously? The picturesque view is the same shipyard the Texas drydocked in, and an oil rig. Not exactly awe inspiring for tourists.
The fish joint owner is retarded. BB35 is the last super dreadnought and the only battleship in the world to serve in both world wars. People come from all over the world to see her. One would think a fish joint with a view of USS Texas and all those tourists who are going to be hungry would be a good thing. What do I know. But if I were a local and got hungry, you better believe a view of Texas would be a plus in my book. I seriously dont get this drama.
That would be sweet, I completely understand the enthusiasm for the idea of doing that, but it would be much cheaper just to build a new ship. However, if a miracle were to occur,, I would certainly volunteer to be a crewmember.
Laughing my ass off about that, because you’re 100% right. Unfortunately. Young people know more about so-called celebrities that can do nothing over their lives. Then they do about the politicians that can do almost anything over their lives. Whoever said youth is wasted on the young Is exactly correct. In World War II 18-year-olds were storming machine gun nests, now they need a safe space to curl up and cry because somebody said their green hair is ridiculous. Absolute shame so many of our young people have turned into. I hope they never see the kind of war that I fear they have coming to them. Unfortunately, unfortunately, they are inviting it upon themselves.
@ honestly, I kind of wish Texas A&M Galveston would berth the ship at their campus. The cadets would be able to help the Battleship Texas Foundation with upkeep and give them the opportunity to be stewards of history. Revenue brought in by tourists could be used to generate funding for both the Foundation and the Texas Maritime Academy. I think that would be a fine idea!
PUT IT BACK WHERE IT WAS BEFORE. It was the best spot. Everyone that have talked about it has said it needs to go back to where it was for all these years.
She’s not too far gone now, she’s too expensive to sink at this point, and into historical to sink at any point. Even without the ship, her engines are on the national historic registry and I believe they’re the only ones of that type still above water.
There are several reasons she cannot go back to San Jacinto, the most important of which is the water. It is brackish water and filled with various ship channel chemicals that destroy the finishes, and then the steel of the hull
What makes me angry and is very disappointing and basically a missed opportunity is the shear silence yes church bells and tumbleweed silence to promote the ship use every social media platform at thier disposal to get restoration videos or the history of the ship out there to raise the battleships profile and funds just not nationally but globally. she's the last surviving dreadnought with a huge history which would of added some clout in the situation BTF are facing. they missed it just dribbles of updates here and there. Look what Ryan has done for new jersey or shane at buffalo navy park or the uss cod and uss kidd have done. Tbh it's inexcusable and the only person who's done some incredible videos is "tom scott the older one" and of course third coast and yourself Keith. But yeah a massively missed opportunity they should be ashamed tbh.
This is by far my biggest complaint about the battleship Texas foundation. They have no PR people apparently and they don’t seem to want to share information with the public anyway. Like I keep saying they act as though they’re still German U-boats out there looking for the Texas. I’ve been considering naming myself “the unofficial, official spokesperson for the battleship Texas“ Ryan has done a bang up job with the New Jersey why they cannot follow his lead. I do not understand. Sometimes they act as if the ship belongs to them and what’s going on with it is none of our business, but third Coast drone and I will continue to dig up what we can and share it openly. Maybe that’s why the battleship Texas foundation doesn’t have a PR person because we’re doing it for them. But we can only get information out that we are able to dig up there’s much more under the surface that they’re just not releasing or consciously hiding.
Why aren’t the rich people helping Battleship Texas? Why is there so much drama and negativity about this ship?? Has anyone reached out to President Trump, or anyone in the new cabinet about full restoration and preservation of this Historic Warship??

The Navy does not want anything to do with Museum ships. The only "relic" it deals with is the frigate USS Constitution, a vessel it maintains in commission in the port of Boston. Older vessels are expensive to maintain as EVERY museum organization has found out, even more expensive than ships maintained in "mothball" or "reserve" status. For the Navy to take over the handling of museum ships would require changes to Federal public law and serious increases in the Navy budget which many if not most Congress members from states without even one would not vote to support for various reasons ... all of them political.
Tours just on Sundays when half the population takes issue with working for religious reasons or asking others to work. Can see not being open a full week but think 3 should be a bare base level and would double funds from tours. Also think discounted school tours on planned days a boom with bus loads going though a side museum to drum up interest from families for full tours. It seems the controlling body has little interest in their purpose, to keep the history alive and seen by the masses.
The reason they’re only doing Sundays right now is because Work is still being done on the ship six days a week, but there is no work being done on Sundays
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Workers giving tours is work. Even with work going on It is doubtful you need to close the whole ship. It should be able to keep a third open for partial tours or even just some dockside tours. Like I pointed out her home needs also to have a dockside museum as well that can be Handicap ready and do school tours in numbers for a much smaller fee. Even at $20 a head for the dockside/museum tour I would bet would raise more than a $75-80 onboard tour does now and could get the backing of the TX school boards with standardized field trips every year. The school tours should be structured to cover the day to day cost so that all funds from onboard (premium) tours would go totally to restoration. Granted some of what I am mentioning might not be possible with the ongoing stuff right now but am suggesting a very basic plan for management that the current group has totally failed at and missed opportunities. The restrictions on filming I understand but I think they again are doing a disservice to themselves in lost publicity unless the can actively fill that themselves like USS NJ is and just require delay waivers on filming request. Copyright strikes for those publishing before them or a set number of days. The SS United States is having the same issue and I would rather beaching to sinking to allow some work be done and past fake reefs off FL have done far more harm than good especially the tire mess.

I for one would HATE to see this happen to ex-USS Texas (BB 35,) especially since so much money and work is being invested in her.
Repossession by the Navy is one of the clauses in the contracts between the Navy and the organizations that accept the donation and, I believe, is in public law.

I’m with you brother, in large part that is why I do what I do, lord knows I don’t make enough money to even cover my costs, but I’m cool with that
Tough decision, but one I had not considered: The restaurants.
They know their business, I don't, but it sure seems to me that the Texas would bring them customers they other wise would of never had.
Unfortunately, without a tub boat she ain’t going no where
She looks GREAT 😊
She's a babe
So glad they mentioned the bathtub wake thing. Imagine how many wakes hit her hull in the Ship Channel. Give her a respectable place in the water...but please let her rest calmly in that place. Who knows...someday we may need to load for active duty once again. also, you would lower her repair costs to her hull in calmer waters...maybe even salt-free. But then...I would really be dreaming if you built her a special closed off harbor. Sail on, Mighty Texas!
I agree, she needs calm waters
They reversed course on delaying the negotiations after a firestorm of negative feedback came in from the disbelief that they couldn't get this done. Regardless, it seems to have re-lit the fire to get this deal over the goal line. Whether it's Pier 15 or further down at 20/21 is fine, it basically means she'll be right there in the historical district, walking distance for tourist traffic, etc.

Good morning sir. Obviously you have seen my verbal reactions to some of the good and bad things on the rebuild of this old heroic vessel. My concern is this 75=00 fee to go aboard to see her in all her glory. How much of this is gonna go to the vessel itself. The foundation that is suppose to take care of her has already proven it's lacking in maintaining it
What do you think a our this fee. Seems a little steep and how many people will be willing to spend that
That's a good point but it cost alot of money to maintain the ship. I'm curious how many FOUNDATION members draw a salary.

I don’t know. It appears that there is a little sliver in the lower left corner of that window of glass remaining. It looks broken.
Jerry USS PT658 crewman Portland OR
PS She will always be “USS Texas” I dont care what those gubmint folks say!
You are 100% correct I noticed those as well but I was waiting to make a video on them specifically which I still plan on doing. That was an excellent catch, though I believe them to be searchlight platforms.
I visited her many times at San jacinto park. Great spot and would be better protected in a Texas state park
According to their engineers the water there is brackish and is too hard on the hull. She also couldn’t make enough money there to pay for her upkeep.
The Texas belongs to Texas and in Texas. Not any other state.
@@DonaldWheelis-xb1lu dang skippy, brother
Is the color she is painted correct ? It seems more blue than gray . Great video. Thank you from western New York.
Bring it to Corpus Christi.
Nonthatbis back drydocking like that will harm her long term
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Interesting. I hadn't considered that, yet I can understand though. Thanks!
$75? They trying to get their restoration money back. We need better administration to get the costs down. Everyone should be able to afford this.
"The Sage of The Battleship Texas..." Sage?
I wondered how long it would take somebody to notice that
Rest easy, Grand Lady. Far as I can see, YOU ARE JUST AS MUCH A "LIVING VETERAN OF WAR" as any of my other brethren in arms. TEXANS ARISE...BB-35 PROTECTED YOUR MOMS, AND DADS GENERATION, AND BEYOND. IT IS ONLY RIGHT, AND FITTING THAT THIS GENERATION NOW CARE FOR, AND PROTECT THIS GRAND LADY OF WAR, SO THAT FUTURE GENERATIONS OF TEXANS, CAN SEE HER, HEAR HER STORY, AND SHOW THEIR GRATITUDE TO THIS GRAND, OLD LADY..BB-35..THE U.S S.
The foundation has said that she will not be going to Corpus because she and the Lexington would have to compete for funds
Exactly my point, and the water is a little less than beautiful more muddy Brown than anything else
I agree, doesn't seem best for his business, but it is his business
They should make her operational so she can patrol the Texas Coast
That would be sweet, I completely understand the enthusiasm for the idea of doing that, but it would be much cheaper just to build a new ship. However, if a miracle were to occur,, I would certainly volunteer to be a crewmember.
Tell young people her name is the USS Beyoncé or USS Taylor Swift and she’ll have a new home next week.

It just didn't get enough people out there to see it, no people, no money. Plus the engineers say the water is brackish and it too hard on the hull

It's too far gone turn it into an artificial reef
She’s not too far gone now, she’s too expensive to sink at this point, and into historical to sink at any point. Even without the ship, her engines are on the national historic registry and I believe they’re the only ones of that type still above water.
Why not take her back to San Jacinto? Much nicer place than Galveston.
There are several reasons she cannot go back to San Jacinto, the most important of which is the water. It is brackish water and filled with various ship channel chemicals that destroy the finishes, and then the steel of the hull
She will end up like she did before. That is not a good spot
Just because content isn't on RUclips doesn't mean it's being put out. Check other sources.
Why aren’t the rich people helping Battleship Texas? Why is there so much drama and negativity about this ship?? Has anyone reached out to President Trump, or anyone in the new cabinet about full restoration and preservation of this Historic Warship??
As far as I know the foundation has not reached out to anyone outside of Texas. They barely reach out to the general public
I guess I don’t understand why NOT to reach out for public awareness, yet unless it is for security reasons its bad that nobody reached out to Governor Abbott, Lt Governor Patrick or Ted Cruz.. I heard other states have similar warships like the USS Kidd being preserved by Veterans. Would WFAA or Texas News Stations be able to cover it?
Maybe Elon Musk can attach rocket engines to USS Texas giving the Unted States our first Space Battleship? Then put her in orbit over North Korea.
Now that right, there would make a great B movie
Sharknado, The Final Fontier

the Navy should handle all ships
The Navy does not want anything to do with Museum ships. The only "relic" it deals with is the frigate USS Constitution, a vessel it maintains in commission in the port of Boston. Older vessels are expensive to maintain as EVERY museum organization has found out, even more expensive than ships maintained in "mothball" or "reserve" status.
For the Navy to take over the handling of museum ships would require changes to Federal public law and serious increases in the Navy budget which many if not most Congress members from states without even one would not vote to support for various reasons ... all of them political.
I agree, besides if you want to ruin something just put the government in charge of it.
@@AJeepADroneAndAnOldMan Fer sure!
