Try hard boiling the preserved eggs and comparing them to the super fresh ones. Not for taste, but for ease of peeling. I've been told that the REAL reason some eggs are difficult to peel and others are super easy is actually the AGE of the egg. The fresher the egg, the harder it is to peel without mangling the white. Personally, I have reason to believe that it's true. You should test it!
I have actually found a good technique that is FOOL PROOF
I do the hard boil as per usual
Drain the hot water, some people would place them in ice water, I have found not a good idea
Just straight cold tap water, let the eggs chill for about 5 minutes
Drain the water repeat that step again chill 5 more minutes blah blah
THEN after that second chill out, I CRACK the eggs get that thin membrane between the whites and the shell broken in a few places
Let them chill in cold water for 5 more minutes
Rinse the water do it again if necessary
Then while still in the water begin to peel
The shells peel right off and you have beautiful eggs
Works no matter how fresh they are
I find that true
Rhiannon Phoenix i still believe it is about the age. I do like you, but still have problems with very fresh eggs
I agree! When our eggs have been sitting too long, we boil them so they don’t spoil. The older eggs can be peeled hot without issue.
I feel like the age thing is hit or miss, I had both fresh eggs that peel easily and didn't peel. But same goes for old eggs. If I want boiled eggs, I don't feel like waiting around a month for them to be peelable.
"Happy birthday, egg!" has the same energy as Chidi Anagonye's "I love you too, egg!"
Chidi would adore Emmys channel. He'd love her informative but eco conscious nature. I could 100% see him in an "Eat the ducky moss" tshirt.
I really appreciate this thread.
The good place is just such a great series 💞
Yasss good place reference
Love this!
Emmy really is out here finding ways to offer us a nice egg in these trying times
_I think I've been poisoned by my constituents!_
I literally love this comment
when we're doing it in the dumpster I like to feel like a cob salad
YES!!! Emmy fans AND Sunny fans?! I have found my people!
Emmy with her bougie apéritif: “cheers!”
Me, with my black cherry Mike’s and microwaved Indian food: “ah yes, we are equal”
Me with my cheap vodka.
However, I got some amazing Mexican Food, from my friend's family restaurant.
So, yeah. 🤗😁 Food tonight is amazing.
reheated indian food and mike's hard sound delightful tbh
What's your favorite microwaved Indian food? I like having backup.
Dude I never used to like Indian food 'til I tried this microwaveable coconut curry. Now I'm a believer
I love Mushrooms and Peas!
I can't remember what it was called. My roommate made it and it was so good! I will have to ask when she gets back home.
Would Emmy not make the coolest ever Science teacher??
Her enthusiasm is so infectious 💗
The other egg preservation is called 'Egg Glassing' and this is something that you can only do with farm fresh eggs that have not been washed. This is due to the enzyme barrier that coats the outside of the egg after the chicken has layed the egg. Please don't attempt egg glassing or any egg preservation with grocery store eggs! The lyme will leech through the shell. Egg-cellet! 🍳
I need a fart test!
I always forget that the US washes their eggs 🙈 I was about to ask a silly question.
*in the US.
Basically, any place that sells unrefrigerated eggs should be fine. :)
Emmy has her own hens so she should be fine
@@TheAnon26 in the us the only place youll find those are at a local farm .
Meaning if youre from a big city, the local farm usually has to obide by cleaning standards even though their produce is farm fresh. Especially if they take food benefits coupons from the govt. Just something to remember.
I want some of those Haus bottles just for decor. They’re too cute.
Emmy: Have you ever wondered what a 1-year old egg tastes like?
Me: Not really Emmy, but now I want to know.
I would have to get tipsy too before eating a year old egg.
Good thing today’s episode is sponsored by...!
Considering how much Emmy loves century eggs (no, they're not really 100 years old, but they're still gross), I'd say a year old preserved egg is nothing to her.
Not here I'd have to be roaring drunk and very stoned and even then uhhh nooo
@@Duncan_Idaho_Potato century eggs are delicioso
Ew even drunk I wouldn't
"happy birthday egg!"
Yup
Do not use this storage method for store bought eggs. It is for unwashed eggs...home laid or bought from source unwashed. There is a natural coating from the laying process that is washed off as part of commercial sale prep. Washed egg pores are open to absorb lime or other things you don't want.
Thanks for doing this. It is fun to watch. 🙂
Worth noting that’s really only for eggs in the United States (& prolly Canada). In most other countries (UK, for example), all eggs are natural / unwashed and not refrigerated in the store; and it’s illegal for them to be washed / sold like in the US.
I had that very question.
Can you rinse the bird crap off of them first? Not full on washing, just major muck removal.
@@adde9506 All the videos I've seen on this process said no. Wash and use the dirty ones while fresh. Store clean ones.
lamelama22 I have a question! In those countries where it’s illegal to wash, what do they do with all the eggs covered in bird poop?
"salt these with some.. salt" -emmy 2020
I think I have seen salt being used as verb before
I think I shed a tear of joy when she said “happy birthday, Egg!!” 🥺🥺
Right? I was like "could she be more adorable??"
I just considered the irony of her wishing an unborn egg happy birthday.
Happy unbirth day
Emmy's boozing in the basement while in quarantine 🤣
Who else is annoyed by RUclips's new update on the comment section? 😩
You noticed only now? Mate. Get it together.
Weirdly enough one of my side accounts had this new comment thing 2 ish months ago.
Yeah usually I scroll all the way down and Im so accustomed to do it.
Vesta Teiserskyte I’ve had the updated for a while but, for a moment they switched it back. But, I personally like the update.
I haven't updated youtube yet so the comment section for me is still normal :)

“Happy birthday, Egg!”
Emmy, you are too pure
10:43 listen!!! I love metal bowls and cups.
DWO-oi-oing!
for a moment I thought this was one of her whacky sound effects, lol.
same man, that sound was pretty satisfying
Emmy since you mentioned macarons id love to see you making some with the 1 year old egg whites!! I absolutely love macs and id love to see you make them!
Honestly, whenever I get the notifications for emmy's vids and see the title, I think: "Disgusting! why me". But then, I see its by Emmy and it passes, and it's never as bad as I thought. Only she could pull this off
I live in Cornelius Oregon and I can confirm that the bins are amazing! I once found an old Super NES system with a ton of great games there for only $20!
O!! Lucky you.......
watch out for those used diapers
Score! 🙌🏼
I live in Portland and as soon as she said “The Bins” I knew exactly where she was talking about 😂
Same! Ah the tragicomic spectacle that is the bins! I got a lot of cheap furniture there back in the day, though.
I live here too and don’t know where that is unless we are talking goodwill. I love your videos Emmy and I just bought eggs to begin this. When I bought copious amounts of lime six months ago, I didn’t know what I would do with it, but today I will use my gallon jars. And that technique of pouring the oil onto the egg I also saw by a woman I knew from Mexico. :) I love old world traditions.
2:10 I though aperitif was a set of French dentures.
I'm here 'til Thursday. Try the roast.
I adore the background music,
"Look! Stiff peaks, over my head!" *tips bowl over head*

"Waffle Facial!" *Wafts steam into face*
Me: 👁👄👁
Thanks Emmy i love your videos!! This was so interesting.
Kendra, age 6, said I want a waffle maker then called it a waffle printer ;)
Emmy truly said “I gotchu, let me give you some good quality videos during covid” 😎
Emmy: How many waffles can you eat?
Me: TWELVE!
Emmy: I'm gonna eat two.
Me: ._.
Gotta love that boingy-wobbly sounds when you hit a liquid-filled metal bowl into something. :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EGG!! I can't believe I waited a whole year for this and it's gone by so fast! Loved watching this, thanks for everything you do Emmy! ^_^
I'm so glad I found your channel. I've been watching non-stop
Hi! Emmy just wanted to say that tomorrow I have an important exam and watching your videos has helped me a lot to calm my nerves!
You are so peaceful and lovely, just want to put some love out there for you and your subscribers! ❤️
As always, fantastic videos Emmy
I honestly prefer these types of waffle makers. My grandma used to have a similar one and I liked all the smaller divots instead of the gigantic ones that are all now Belgian waffles.
I always look forward to your videos. I get to learn something and be entertained for a bit.
Wait, no butter on the waffles?!!! That's the best part when it blends with the maple syrup! I'll take waffles over pancakes anyday :D
I am so glad you are posting more often, I realize it's not so easy, however, it is much appreciated!!! Thank you 😋💕
This raises a question in my mind: Do those of you who keep chickens notice any difference between, say, springtime eggs and autumn eggs, or any other seasonal difference? My guess is that they're pretty consistent, but I don't know; maybe they find different kinds of things to nibble on at different times of the year, and maybe that makes some difference. No?
Yes, depending on what the chickens are eating and how much time they are getting outside, the yolks will be more golden. Typically Spring is the best time to start preserving eggs for the low months in winter. Fewer eggs are laid in winter because of the same variables that affect the yolks.
My chickens eggs in Summertime are less golden and orange yolked than in other seasons because we keep them in their run and don't let them free range while we have a garden up. (They destroy the garden.) When left to forage and feed on chicken feed only as a supplement, their eggs are super lovely :)
What great replies. Super interesting! Thanks for all the information!
How about with regard to the way it tastes? Would a hen that's eaten rosemary produce eggs that are perfumed with rosemary?
@@williamkwan6913 I honestly can't tell a difference when my chickens eat different foods. That said, you'd have a hard time making a chicken eat strong herbs when there is anything else around. :)
Love seeing this. Can’t believe it’s been a year! The outtakes always crack me up. Much love from Montana. ✨💖✨
Why did I hear haus and went “my girl got sponsored by gaga” knowing damn well that’s not who it was 😭
Rashida Red21 LOL same
Same! Only real fans will know😆
Aloha🌺Thank you for making and sharing you videos...it helps me with making things for my family and getting them involved.... they love it!!!
Yes! I've been waiting for the lime eggs!!! So excited to see how they turned out, hopefully better than the century eggs
*the* essential quarantine content. the level of quality is unsurpassed, great work!
Wow!!! I watched your video about preserving your eggs a whole year ago!!! I have been watching these blogs for a year. It doesn’t seem like it has been that long. Thank you Emmy for the wonderful videos and all the information that you share. And for the laughs too. Lol!!! 😂😄
I've been to the one in Seattle. I was quite the experience! My friend got a functioning Kitchenaid mixer for 4.00!
Just another nerd fighting the battle for the “perfect” macaron recipe, so I was very curious to see how/if the preservation process would effect the egg whites. Love her video’s so much ❤️❤️❤️
Those waffles sound so good! Just the perfect crisp crunch!
You always make me so happy, Emmy.
Everything you do is SO satisfying!🤗🌻🌼
Thanks Emmy! We made a Haus purchase and can’t wait to try it ourselves. Thank you for the lovely videos and for sharing your encouraging warm persona with the world.
Awesome video! Thank you, I learned a lot
10:43
I thought that's a sound effect
I LOVE your egg holder!!!
I totally love your new studio kitchen!
Thank you.😊It's coming along.
I have been waiting to see the 1 year update so impatiently!
Never been to Burma, and I've been spooning hot oil over my eggs for years. 🤷🏻♀️
And my eggs frequently spread like that without being a year old. Maybe more to do with the temperature of the egg than the age...
I'm so glad you uploaded rn. Since I had nothing to do after watching all your videos😅❤
Always love watching these eggsperiments Emmy
I started yoga 2 months ago and it improves so many things in mind and body. Since I started watching your videos like 10 months ago, you made me taste, smell, savor food in a whole different level; try more things. You are like a yogi for food. You teach yoga for the senses and it's awsome.
I have been waiting for this video update yayyyy. I watched you start this and couldn't wait
YAY!!! Old eggs. 😆
there was something very comforting about the fact that you wished the egg a happy birthday
Wow I love this episode this is one of her best ones
This was so great!!! I didnt know how to preserve eggs long term. Amazing.
I really wanted you to put one of the eggs in that Rollie machine 😂
I do the same thing with freezing the waffles, and I also freeze pancakes and french toast. I love that it makes it so my kids can have a hot breakfast without me having to actually COOK a hot breakfast each morning!
I always find your videos so interesting!!
I'm glad you like them. 😊
Yes! THE BINS! Back in the day, (20 years ago) got some REALLY cool antiques from the bins. They moved locations down the rd a bit, and it’s just not the same. ❤️
Emily, slowly and subtly training us to survive an apocalyptic situation. Or the errday struggles of the less fortunate.
I truly love how excited you get about food science. :)
I love these egg preservation tests. I hope you try the century egg again.
The spreading of the egg happens to old eggs, not only 1 year old eggs ;) And, like you said and rightly, as old eggs spread more they become thinner and so they cook faster. They are usually perfectly fine to eat but if you cook them along with a fresh egg you need to pay attention because the old egg will cook faster.
“salt these with some...salt” 😂
Emmy is just so happy and sweet! It's absolutely no wonder she gets so many sponsors!
I love Emmy so much, she’s the best 😭❤️ Such a pure cinnamon roll
THE BINS ARE THE BEST!!! I have found so much cool stuff that way!! And I always have to take Marine Drive over there, because it's so pretty!
Ah perfect way to finish my evening, chillin watching an Emmy video. Hope all is well!
How do you stay in shape eating/tasting so much delicious food? Love your videos 🌷
I have liked your channel for a while now.... but as a born and raised Portlander.. hearing you mention that you got your waffle maker at the bins makes me LOVE this channel
Watching Emmy get so excited over basic food like eggs is a source of joy for me
The preserved eggs remind me of using powdered eggs, and powdered milk at times during my childhood, to stretch the budget. My mom tried, but they always tasted powdered. Have you heard of any recipes that they actually taste good in, besides premade cake mix that require only water and oil?
Homemade hot cocoa mix uses powdered milk and it's wonderful! If you google it, look for a recipe that has cook-and-serve pudding mix in it.
Powdered eggs don’t even smell good. I too would like to know how to use them besides cake mix, but I think baking is the ONLY way to use a powdered egg.
Emmy your plates are really nice
Emmy is the only thing that’s keeping me sane during quarantine 🥺
Emmy is amazing!
Watching 1 year old egg whites instantly froth gave me new life. I was just excited lol ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Emmy makes the most random stuffs and I live for it
I preserved eggs, too. Only downside is you can’t hardboil them. Still, awesome to have eggs from my own girls over the winter months. Your waffles need a little baking powder so they won’t be flat.
more than anything the main reason I watch is because I love seeing how much joy Emmy gets from cooking and food
Your kitchen is very pretty !
You're so brave!
You're so wholesome Emmy
Emmy, the eggs look yummy! I do have a question, I hear that after you boil an egg, it's easier to peel an older egg over a new egg. I wonder how much easier it is to peel a year-old egg over a day-old?
Yes it's easier to peel an older egg. Store the raw eggs for two weeks in the fridge.
hellll yeah shoutout to the bins!! i loved going there when i lived in portland
I remember watching Emmy preserve these eggs on the way to start work in a new job this time last year. Now I’m watching it a year later, unemployed and in lockdown in Ireland. Time really goes quick and fast don’t it!
The bins! I've found lots of great stuff there! Things I still use. Probably not going back there for a while though...
My Haus order arrived the day before yesterday and I really love them both. I wasn't a fan of either just straight or on the rocks (not bad, just too strong), but I was out of club soda and tonic. I tried them with some vanilla cream soda...OMG, DELICIOUS.
🤔 Why is it that I can never find tape when I need it? 🕵🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️
2:49 into this video:
That looks nice, the drink, plus the wooden wall background, with the lights is really growing on me. I love it. Goes great with Emmys amazing completion. 👍👍👍👏👏👏💚💚💚
Very cool!!
