    Ive had the electric version travel across the globe with me for a few years. Two points: many airlines (international) will NOT let you bring this onboard and it will have to be checked. Dimensions are just a few inches beyong the allowed "cube". Second, the gigbag is really not up to the task, the padding is useless if you drop it, and Ive had the zipper break on more than one bag. Other than that, its the best option.

    I've got one of the old pro series ones (gotta be about twenty-five years old by now) with both an electric pickup and stethoscope. I took out the stethoscope, widened the hole and had an EMG 81wired in. I play it using a Vox Metal headphone amp.
    It sounds pretty cool. Sure, its not as good as my full sized Jackson King V, but certainly good enough for killing five/ten minutes here and there while on vacation.

  • @martymaker

    _Really_ good little review, Mike! Thank you very much. I am so surprised and impressed by the sound. For about the same price, I've been trying to decide whether to get a $350ish Hellcat hollowbody 12 string to noodle with -- but this sounds so shockingly acceptably nice that I wouldn't mind just slapping a Silver Jangle Box on it and not even minding that it's only got six strings. Cool stuff!

      @@kevin-cisum I chose a B-stock piezo-only model that was on sale for like 250, and am _extremely_ happy with it so far. I'm a total rookie to guitar, so still just noodling and plucking half-randomly, but I really enjoy having it by my chair in easy arm's reach. Dunno what genres you're aiming for, and I have no idea how the piezo pickups would handle ~chugga chugga~ metal or hard rock in general, nor do I know how the models with proper magnetic pups sound... But am I happy with the purchase? _Yes._ No regrets at all!

  • @harrypisila7553

    I modified mine by adding a roller bridge and a Kent Armstrong "Slimbucker" electric pickup with the tab and "Schatten" volume and tone controls that I added to the back in a little wooden pod.
    The pickup is 3/8" tall so you can rout a shallow pocket and just fit it in at the end of the neck where the 24th fret would be (perfect). The roller bridge allows the strings to glide over it instead of hanging up while bending or tuning. Tuning is rock steady and never seems to go out of tune and allows for perfect intonation setup with individual string length adjustment.. I made router templates for everything. There were at least two other guys on youtube who had similar ideas all at about the same time. Playing through an amp sounds like a nice fat jazzy Gibson ES-175 with flatwound strings. I have traveled with it some and just left the case at home and put it diagonally in my carry-on bag padded with clothes I play while on vacation with a blackstar fly amp or a headphone amp plugged right into the output jack.

  • @poeticjustice905
    @poeticjustice905 Год назад +5

    You only demo'd the guitar plugged in. To justify the term 'acoustic', why didn't you play it unplugged? That's an electric guitar, not an acoustic electric. Or have definitions changed? Thanks for the review. Cheers.

    • @rebecca4522
      @rebecca4522 Год назад +1

      Without a sound box, playing unplugged is moot unless the laws of physics have changed. Since acoustics use different strings, bridge, typical nut width, string spacing and pickup choice, the play feel is different. People who play acoustic looking for something like this would be looking for the play feel for practice. Not the acoustic sound which would be pants without the box and soundboard. The sound amplified is just the reference, I doubt a pro would consider it for performance. If it was described as electric, I'd expect narrow nut width, metal bridge and low action, 'classic': nylon strings, wide nut and high action. Acoustic....

    • @anzbert_anzio
      @anzbert_anzio Год назад +2

      I think they call it acoustic because this is the model with the piezo pickup. Of course its not really an acoustic guitar.

  • @SquirrelDarling1
    @SquirrelDarling1 2 года назад +3

    I bought one, and the acoustic strings aren’t heavy feeling at all because the action is setup low. Very easy to play but then again I’m used to a acoustic guitar’s feel.

    The string noise makes it a headache to play. It’s not acoustic electric. It doesn’t play as acoustic. If you are considering it, go electric. At least it is designed for how you have to play it. Acoustic electrics should be able to be played unplugged. You can’t with this. Well, you can but it sucks and you can’t hear it.

    I recently bought the shredder model, the Vaibrant V88 Standard. Had to return it, the build quality was astonishingly bad, I guess I got a bad one from the factory. I decided to upgrade to the V88x Deluxe which adds another $400 to the price tag ($699 US list price), but a much better built axe. The Standard should be delivered back tomorrow and process the return and order the new one. The Standard has a crappy floyd rose style bridge, but the Deluxe has a bona fide high quality one. Wish me luck.

      I had a standard for quite some time and gigged with it heavily with no issues. It did take some setting up, which I'm comfortable doing myself, but it's cheap. The only thing I felt it needed was a tremsetter device to force it back to zero, but I even put those on my more expensive guitars.

    • @MikeKennedyUK
      @MikeKennedyUK  2 года назад +2

      I don't take an amp travelling and that's another reason why I think the electric version of this guitar would be a better choice. (What's the point of having an electro acoustic guitar vs an electric if you're not going to use an amp?) For this reason, I think the electric version of the Traveler would be preferable due to it's increased playability. I've ordered the electric version so I can check it out!

    I was potentially looking for something that is smaller than my classical guitar. I am a beginner and live in a tiny house. It's really tough for me to pull out my guitar to practice every night. Would you recommend this for me? My goal in guitar is the play flamenco and Spanish style and maybe some classical music down the road. I'm also learning regular acoustic guitar playing.

    • @thebunnisher109
      @thebunnisher109 Год назад +2

      The setup is more electric style with a fret radius and slightly tighter string spacing. This has shorter scale length than a classical guitar, but mine with steel strings is similar tension to a nylon string classical guitar. For complex picking the lack of an arm rest might get some getting used to. I do some flamenco strumming and no issues at all, the ability to easily fine tune action makes it so you can dial in the feel you want. The guitar reminds me of a canoe paddle, but I love playing it. You can find them used cheap.

It may be a chore, but if makes more sense IMO to use a courier like DHL and a location to pickup, which I belive cam be kept in a depot. It just seems to make more sense. More economical in terms of insurance but less convenient based on where you the depot/pickup spot is.

    Hi Mike, liked the presentation, however, if you insist on taking your valuable instruments abroad, and you allow them to go through baggage handling, then you have to use a flight case. Nothing else will protect an instrument from the ravages of baggage handling, and that includes a hard case. You used to be able to take a guitar on as hand luggage, however i have heard that airlines are now getting restrictive about this.

    the velcro on the back is there to prevent "harping" essentially deadening the tuner area from vibrating and causing unwanted sounds feeding back when its plugged in.
