Just great - thanks again! When I revived my Amiga 1000 two years ago, I had nothing but a Kickstart and Amiga Workbench 1.2 and 1.3. I was looking for a method to transfer files from a PC to an Amiga with only these things available - plus a Null Modem Calbe, as you mentioned, which in fact I soldered myself. It turned out to be quite easy to transfer files. This site here describes it very well: www.boomerangsworld.de/cms/vc/amiga_transfer.html#h-5-1 The basic idea behind it is to send files from the PC with an simple "cat" command under Linux to the Amiga, which receives the data with a simple little program you just write yourself on the Amiga side inside your Workbench. The first thing you should send is of course a program that can later on dump adf files directly onto your floppy-disk drive. This program is called transdisk or the newer one is transwarp (adfsender.stoeggl.com/#faq). I was only able to get stable connection up to 9600 baud though, so you've got to be a bit patient. Later I used a parallel port connection with appcomm and a LapLink parallel cable, after I transfered the appropriate tools to the Amiga with the serial solution, since the parallel solution gave me much higher and relieable speed (www.boomerangsworld.de/cms/apccomm/usage.html) - but that's a totally another story.
It's surprisingly easy once you know what to do. For me it was all about understanding those first basic steps. Thank you so much for the kind words! And I made 3 more ADFs this morning :) Some more sweet Gold Box action hitting the site this weekend.

The hard drives are starting to have issues and I want to preserve them before they die. I haven't really found any solid information on total hard drive backup. Great videos by the way. Hi Nathan - how big is the hard drive in question? Have you ever used the SCSI2SD boards before? There is an external one (v5.5) that you can pop into the back of your A3000's SCSI port. You could then format it and move whatever files over you want to preserve. You could even then move the SD card from that device to a PC and copy it for further safe keeping. That's one option I can think of right off the top of my head. And thanks for watching! Really glad you are enjoying the videos. They are fun to put together when I have the time.
Thanks for the video! I noticed that you're using 19200 as a speed and it appears you have an accelerated Amiga. So you could probably increase the speed to 38400 or 57600 (or even higher) for a more enjoyable (or less painful ;) ) experience.
Thanks for the tip. To be honest I've never tried that as it goes outside the recommended settings I found (somewhere). But that would be a fun experiment - especially if it writes correctly. At the end of the day, the transfer from PC to Amiga floppy can still only write as fast as that floppy will allow. But maybe the higher speed transfer would make it look like it was constantly writing instead of pausing after every track (or whatever it is doing). Cheers!
You can buy it stand-alone. But when I got it, it was packaged with "Amiga Forever" which is Cloanto's really nice emulator. I probably should have mentioned that software briefly in the video; basically if you are on a PC and download an ADF from somewhere, it can launch right on your PC in an emulation environment. Oh, well... both. You need a hard drive to install the Amiga Explorer program on so the Amiga and your PC can talk to each other over a serial connection, and the floppy drive will come in handy when you want to drag over an ADF file and drop it right onto disk. you say we need to change usb port of the pc to a com port ? why not explain how to do this ? also you dont show us how to install amiga explorer from the pc to the amiga. i been reading that you can install it from the pc with the null modem cable if you dont have it in amiga. if like me you cant transfer files from pc to amiga , then you need to use this option. you should explain those things... you say alot things we dont need to know but dont give details on how to install things. i dont like this video because of it.
Hey e b. I put most of the information on how to do this in an attached article you can find directly below the video (you probably have to "show more" to see the actual link or it is hidden by RUclips's interface). As for the USB/Com port switching, I did that in Windows XP in the Device Manager.
