Chris, you have no idea how excited I get when I see in my inbox that you've posted a new video. If it helps you to continue to beat hesitation, know that you and your writing journey are such an inspiration to me. And knowledge - good grief! You share so much high quality info! Keep on keeping on! And yes, per the comment below, you look great!

Your videos are always instant watches for me when they come out, always relatable with practical advice. My 2 cent little tricks, identify your frog the night before, attempt to make it harder to NOT do the thing than to just do it (500 words the first thing when I get up, outline of the scene is up on my screen and everything I actually NEED is in reach, not stuff I want, there's no wanting until the frog is gone). Plan sober..ish, write bleary eyed way too early in the morning.

Thanks so much for this video Chris--I've fallen off the horse since last year where I had made a habit of writing at least 1,000 words a day and while that isn't much I was proud of it and even pulled in about $500 on Vella the one month I really tried
I've cleaned up that book and preparing for a relaunch and already working on my other projects too, but every day I've been trying to hold myself accountable
Got some great advice from the 50k group you recommended
I appreciate your sharing your knowledge so much and I can't tell you how many times I've gone back to listen to some of your older videos to motivate myself the last few years
I'm single, no kids, I've been over a year not smoking weed and my job gives me a lot of free time on the clock so I've got no excuse to not FINALLY get to it and give it my all 😤

I've been watching your videos for the past 5 years as I've released my first two fantasy books and they always give me something to think about. I'm currently wrestling with a bunch of different writing projects and finding it hard to focus on what to do or even develop a plan on what to do, so this video was very needed. Thank you Chris!

Thank you for this video, Chris. The timing, for me personally, couldn't have been better. I've been in a kind of mental limbo for the last several months and unable to pull myself out until just recently. I'm hoping I can build on the momentum of the last couple of weeks. It's comforting to know that you were able to re-energize in the way that you have. It tells me I can do the same as long as I stay honest with myself. Thank you again!

And thanks for all the writing videos you have posted. Your videos (along with others I have found on You Tube) are helping me to get my writing 'career' started. I bought your books "5,000 Words per Hour" and "Plot Gardening", and although it has taken longer than I initially hoped, I now have my idea for a novel, and I can now start the planning/plotting process using your LAYER system. Thanks again.

The Earthfarter? That title has me imagining all kinds of plots! My personal "frog" is my author website. I have book one basically ready to go, and the remaining 5 books in my series are written but need work...but without a website, I'm stalled on moving forward to getting my book out there. Thanks for the motivation. Perfect timing, as always!

I love your videos. I love that you pack such a lot of information into roughly 10 minutes, and they're on a very short list of new releases I'll watch right away. I'm not knocking other authors for making long/longer videos, I just don't have time needed to watch many of them. So thank you for everything I've learned through the years, and making it so easy to do. :)

Good video and synchronistic as well. Just yesterday I was browsing the shelves at the library and ran across a book called "The Five Second Rule". The 5 Second Rule is a self-management technique. It advocates that people should take PHYSICAL ACTION and begin completing a (possibly unpleasant) task within 5 seconds of thinking about it, otherwise their brain may try to postpone the completion of the task. The technique thus strengthens the impulse to move from thinking to action before your brain can come up with objections prevent you from doing so. I also just read that procrastination is actually an ancient and imbedded survival technique that originally helped us conserve energy for important/crucial survival tasks by not completing less important tasks (an important thing to do in the wild, where food (energy sources) are scarce; but now is an impediment to action in our food rich environment). See: The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage by Mel Robbins.

The problem isn't one of motivation, it's of mindset. I don't write because I need to pay the bills. I have a good career and I'm financially set for life. I could retire tomorrow and have no money worries until the day I die. My house is paid off, I have zero credit card debt, my kids are grown and out of the house. I don't need to write to make money. I write because I want to write. I've been doing it for almost 50 years. It is one of the things that I enjoy doing and I'm lucky that other people seem to enjoy reading it. Yet if I never sold another book in my life, I'd still write because that's what I want to do. I wrote for more than 30 years without selling a thing. I still did it. I still get up at 5am 5 days a week and put down a minimum of 5k every day. I write an average of 6 books a year. I know the next 45 books I'm going to write. If Amazon went tits-up and self-publishing became a thing of the past, I'd still do it because I enjoy it. I have stories in my head that I want to get out. I'd go right back to the way I used to do things. If you want to read my story, I'll send you a copy for free.
If your only motivation in life is money, then you're screwed. Your motivation has to be the actual writing itself. It has to be the enjoyment of the process. If you can get there, you will never stop.

I think it's wonderful you have a system, but you and I are not the same. Please spare me the lecture. I've heard it before. From you specifically.
I wrestle with very different issues. I think it's great that you can crank 5k words, every day, forever, and that you love this so much. Sincerely I am happy for you.
Telling other people to just suck it up and love the writing is condescending in the extreme. Perhaps if it were just the writing that advice might be good.
I don't just write. I speak on stage, and fly all over the country, and make RUclips videos, and market, and make courses, and write apps, all while being a parent to an autistic child while being autistic myself.
You have no idea where my mental health is at, or what I'm facing. Don't pretend like you do.
I can't simply magic up innocence and enthusiasm for writing. That isn't even what this video is about anyway. It's about taking action versus procrastination, a wholly separate issue from finding your purpose.
I do appreciate that we can butt heads. You are always welcome here, and welcome to be as blunt as you want. You've got my respect, even when I disagree.

    • @BitchspotBlog
      @BitchspotBlog Год назад

@@ChrisFoxWrites It's not a lecture, any more than everything you say is a lecture. You post your expereince, I post mine. STop being butt-hurt. You used to post constantly that you write 5k a day, every day. "Let's write a book in 30 days!" That was the entire basis of your channel.
Now you've had changes in your life. When my kids were young, I hardly wrote for 10 years. Trust me, I've been there, I understand. I was focused on other things, just as you are now. Life happens. We have watched you over the years try thing after thing after thing. Write books. Write games. Take up woodworknig, which is fantastic, by the way, I'm a lifetime woodworker too. You have run the gamut, which is absolutely fine. You do what works for you, just like everyone else.
I also didn't address you by name once. It was a general comment, not critical of you in any way. I think you need to step back and take a deep breath. There are so many people out there right now that are so laser-focused on making a buck, to the exclusion of all else, that they've lost all enjoyment in their lives. I'm not saying that's you, but it clearly is a lot of people. Maybe those people need to take a step back and try to remember why they started to do these things to begin with. Remember the fun before the paycheck. You sure didn't get where you are without enjoying it. You got there with hard work.
Find the fun again and you'll find the motivation. That goes for everyone. Write for the love of writing. You said in the video that you don't need to write. Your bills are paid. Now figure out what you WANT to do. Do what you love. If you can make money off of it, fantastic. Bonus.
I hope you have a good time in your future endeavors, whatever they may be. If you don't enjoy your time while you're here, why bother?
