Elliott Soundsapper (1910-1965): President of Record Records, Inc. Rock Rollerdrome was his company’s most successful act. Turned down both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, thinking that the British music acts were “a fluke.” Resigned as president in January, 1965 for these and other poorly made decisions. A heavy drinker, Soundsapper was known to indulge as much as two quarts of malt liquor a day.
When Tennessee and Chumley tried to make a record. What they went through with record managers not give them a chance to hear their song. George Strait when through the same way with record studios. Except they wanted him to modernize his music and change his clothing. The first thing was Take your hat off. Til MCA records signed him. And it turned out for the very best.
