Having now got one and used it multiple times, I can confirm that the pizza is ok (got my friend who is a chef to prep it) and the ooni Freya is an expensive bit of scrap metal designed to have you buy the rest of the equipment from ooni. You can get the same level of pizza using a drum BBQ and a pizza stone for a fraction of the price. Unless you plan to use it more than twice a month it is fundamentally a waste of money.
I can see your point... it sounds like you are also a BBQ guy like me, but keep in mind that there are people who aren’t and may not have access to anything other than their oven. Looking at it from that perspective I can say that the Ooni makes better pizza than the oven in my kitchen.
Technically this is an open flame. What are their thoughts on gas grills? You may be able to get one of the other models that are dual fuel... or risk it for the biscuit!
I have the onion 3 and love it . It also came with the propane attachment, sometimes its easier if I'm 9n a time restraint. these things make amazing pizzas
Thanks! that was a great help setting mines up, was a Christmas gift so no cost considerations for me. The little flame baffle was tricky to locate from the instructions so thanks for showing that. The taste is much much better than a home oven as the wood smoke and heat do great things to the dough and leaves the topping perfect. If its your birthday soon drop some hints 😉

We were lucky enough to go to Italy last October before the whole pandemic started so we were fortunate enough to sample different styles of pizza, including the famous Neapolitan style pizza that most people fire in the Ooni.
Note to ooni: if you're going to give swag to the reviewers you've sent free product to, please don't include it with the free product. When the reviewers do the unboxing and assembly, and discover the free swag, and they say "wow, I wasn't expecting that!", you just set up the actual buyers for disappointment with you because they didn't get the swag included in their box! You should think these things through!
I actually purchased this from Ooni. I am now an affiliate, but not at the time that I purchased it. So everything that you see is what was shipping to consumers.

No problem. There are many instances where affiliates get free things from the companies, so I can see where it would get frustrating or confusing. Ooni has spent the 2nd half of 2020 in kind of a restructuring mode and I wouldn’t doubt it if they change packaging or contents to some extent.... just know that even as an affiliate you will always get my honest opinions whether they are good or bad! Do you need to keep the door on whilst cooking? Seems like it's a good idea when warming up but it's probably so hot in there that the door isn't needed.
They recommend keeping the door on but there have been a few cases where the oven was super hot so I left it off when the pizza was in there. Really I just monitor the stone temp and make sure that I’m good there.

I definitely like the idea of a pellet fired pizza oven but after seeing yours in use it seems a bit lacking. I had hoped there was an auger for the hopper or something but I guess that's unlikely for a $249 unit. Is there a thermometer to show when it's up to temp? Not sure I saw one in your video but wasn't looking hard either. Would you recommend it for someone who already owns pellet smokers?
So the Ooni Fyra is Ooni’s most basic and portable unit. I think it’s a great oven for the price and it make some dang good pizza. I believe some of their more expensive units have thermometers, but the stone temp is just as important so an infrared thermometer is recommended. I really like the oven and enjoy working with it but there was a little learning curve for me... and that was working the dough. Other than that it’s been great. @@AndersonsSmokeShow I've already done the legwork to find a 10% discount outside of affiliate links. However my question was about as a stand alone unit vs a pellet smoker. I watched a few others, and although it's neat, I'll keep an eye on them for black Friday and alike sales.
@@pepperdude you can definitely achieve a great pizza in a pellet smoker or pellet grill especially if you are using a pizza stone too... the only thing that you’re missing out on is the high temperatures and the pizza in 60 seconds.
@@AndersonsSmokeShow I saw a damper on the chimney which can control temperature by air flow. Actually I ordered one similar one from China, and I will test for Winter camping. It would be an interesting experiment for campers.
I actually have used it a bunch, but haven’t filmed with it in a few weeks. I really like it and it produces a great pizza. With that being said, I’m not a pizza maker so there is a learning curve when it comes to stretching dough but I’ve gotten better. I would say that learning to “make” pizza is the only challenge, as running the oven is super easy!
Don’t worry I still have it, and it’s a great oven too! I had the Ooni on order weeks before Camp Chef sent my their pizza oven and I made sure that they knew I was getting the Ooni.
You're pronouncing the Fyra wrong. It's made with a short Y, not a long Y as in "Eye" It's a Swedish word, and it means four, because this is the fourth revision of this oven from Ooni and a successor to Ooni 3, hence its name ;)
That makes sense to me, but I followed suit with Ooni. I watched several videos of theirs before I recorded to ensure that I was pronouncing it correctly. Sounds like they got it wrong hahah!

Although, I don't understand why they chose a Swedish word for it, because the owner and CEO of Ooni is from Findland, neighboring country to Sweden. Although, he might be speaking two languages, because some parts of Findland people speak both finnish and swedish hehe.

What specific type of pepperoni are you using? It looks like cup and char, just wondering where you found it?
It was just standard grocery store pepperoni. I think it was Hormel.

How much smoke does this oven produce compared to a gas barbecue?
The pizzas are only ever in for a minute or two, but I personally think that you can taste the wood fired on it.
Do you need to keep the door on whilst cooking? Seems like it's a good idea when warming up but it's probably so hot in there that the door isn't needed.
They recommend keeping the door on but there have been a few cases where the oven was super hot so I left it off when the pizza was in there. Really I just monitor the stone temp and make sure that I’m good there.

This Ooni Fyra is ONLY pellet. Ooni has a few other models that provide some other fuel options like wood, charcoal, and gas.
This is a silly question but how do you get rid of the fire when your pizza is done. So do you just let it do it by itself
You just let it burn out. The full hopper will only provide about 15min of fire

The damper does allow you to adjust airflow and in the end adjust the temperature…. But it’s not exactly the easiest thing to control

It has a 12 inch cooking surface so the largest would be just under that.
Looked a little undercooked on the bottom while the top cooked so much faster

I’ve found that it’s best to keep toppings well spread out and thin and it cooks better.
Yep...can't load these small pizzas with lots of sauce & toppings. Light sauce & about 2 toppings max
