  • Democracynow.org - Attorneys for death row prisoner Richard Glossip have made a last-minute bid to save his life, saying the state of Oklahoma may be about to execute an innocent man. Glossip is scheduled to die at 3 p.m. Central time today. On Tuesday, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin denied him a stay of execution as protests grew from supporters who say he is innocent. In 1997, Glossip was working as a manager at the Best Budget Inn in Oklahoma City when his boss, Barry Van Treese, was murdered. A maintenance worker, Justin Sneed, admitted he beat Van Treese to death with a baseball bat, but claimed Glossip coerced him into the killing, offering him money and job opportunities. The case rested almost solely on Sneed’s claims. No physical evidence ever tied Glossip to the crime. Glossip’s attorneys say Sneed implicated their client in exchange for a deal to receive life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. We go now to Oklahoma City, where we are joined by Sister Helen Prejean, one of the world’s most well-known anti-death-penalty activists. As a Catholic nun, she began her prison ministry over 30 years ago. She is the author of the best-selling book, "Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty."

So is what they did to their victims. I'm all for proving with dna, among other uses of science, to prove their guilt or innocence, and it should be beyond a reasonable doubt. If Glossip didn't do it, he should def be freed. there's a difference btwn justice and vengence.

I'm from NY we abolished the death penalty years ago because we realized that it did not deter anyone, anywhere, at any time from committing murder! I'm a Christian, I know about the old Eye for an Eye! I always thought that to get The death penalty you had to take a life? How do you justify playing "Let's Make A Deal" with the lives of human beings? Something. Real Evil is going on in our Southern States.... Judicial System when we execute people that are knowingly Innocent of Murder! In place of the knowingly Guilty party! Explain how you justify an Eye For An Eye! A child could see how wrong that is! WTF is happening in this country? Very Scary! And all so dam wrong! I'm sure that the dictators in Third World country's are scratching their heads in dis belief! I'm so proud of my State! I'm so Discusted with the state of Texas and Oklahoma for Executing Innocent People that didn't commit the act of murder! Actually he will be the only innocent person in the death chamber! Wow! Hard to believe in the 21 century were sitting by allowing these evil monsters get away with this! It's Absoultely insane ! Outrageously WRONG!!! I'm ashamed of my country for allowing these states to kill, thousands of innocent people with some Ridiculous Law of parties and brainwashed the Southerners in to believing it's fair ! Just like Hitler managed to do! One day our great grand children are going to read about the barbaric laws of these Southern States and asking How did we let them kill / Execute human beings that were innocent of murder? How do we justify Executing the innocent person and allow the guilty person to live? How in god's name is this legal? How can this be just? How did the Supreme Court pass an insane, unfair, barbaric. Evil law? A child could see that it's insane! Shame on the Supreme Court! I hope the blood of these innocent souls never rinse from your evil hands! " Lord Forgive Them 🙏 For they Know Not What They Do" .....Absoultely inexcusable cruelty!

It's not a justice system, it's a legal system. Justice is something to be mocked by the legal establishment.

No physical evidence tying Glossip to the crime - just Sneeds testimony given in exchange for a deal. Just imagine the mental torment poor Mr Glossip has endured all these years caged up for something he didn't do. If the DA drops the death penalty, will they free this innocent man? Or will they continue to imprison him for life just to save face? Will the conspirators from government to gutter lose their freedom? An absolute disgrace.

Sneed was a meth addict who beat the guy to death for money for meth. It was a pretty simple truth.

I've always believed that life without parole is a much better sentence for crimes such as murder. In my opinion, a life separated from family etc is much more of a punishment. Again, just my opinion..😞

THAT IS UNTIL MY BEST FRIEND WAS MURDERED. I WANTED TO MURDER THE FKR MYSELF.. That was 16+ years ago and I still feel the same way. People have opinions on subjects they know absolutely nothing about.. They just can't help themselves, I suppose...

+Tim Cole Thanks for posting that. Still the "system" simply doesn't work if you need these extraordinary measures to stop a potentially innocent from getting murdered.

Glossip is innocent. God told every single one of my prayer group members. I wrote to all the Federal Supreme Court judges that I could find on the Facebook already. I also wrote to Federal Supreme Court. I hope it helps!

I hope you are still doing whatever you can friend. His lawyers say we have to keep spreading the word about Richard's innocence, he's not out of the woods yet.

According to our prayers, God said he will likely get life in prison for the "stupid" things he did, meaning being over helpful to the murderer, etc. because people are suspicious of him. You know what I mean?

Young Mei I would settle for the sentence the actual killer is doing, life in a medium security prison, if I were Richard Glossip.

What would Jesus do? He will never settle for that! Glossip is doing the right and noble thing. Our "injustice" system has a long way to go!

I agree it's about what's right not about race .The criminal court system is blind in this case I've been watching the old news reports about it and there's nothing new anywhere I don't know whether Oklahoma acquitted him or actually went through with the execution .But all I know is if they did go through with it ,I hope Governor Mary Fallin and the District Attorney both rot in hell for sending Richard Glossip to his death when the evidence clearly shows that he is an innocent man .Just another ploy by government to further their own agenda .
