Im in the process of putting my 74 Cutlass ( my original High School car ) together after finding it sitting in storage for over 20 years, and videoing it sharing that is turning out to be a blast! getting to see this Cutlass ( identical to mine, sans the headlights and grill orientation ) is REALLY cool!! Thanks for sharing.
It’s actually a 77 442. They used the bigger bodies until the 1981 Winston Western 500, which was actually a field mixed with the new downsized 81 models and the full size 77 models.
Thanks to Tim Brewer And Mike Beam for comments on the car and, and building the car. "We were just learning to wire (Mig) weld at that time". It would be so cool if Dale Jr had some old car builders and crew members like Tim , Mike and Jeff Hammond on Dale Jr podcast .
I think it would be fun again to see "The Mountains of Busch" Classic race again because It'd would be fun to see a Vintage Racecar Racing Reaction and Attendance again.
No doubt it's a bunch of legal BS. Just doesn't sound right to say, "Cale Yarborough won 3 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championships" though. I remember one time someone was interviewing Jeff Gordon about his "Sprint Cup" championships. Then Jeff said, "Mine all say Winston on them." XD
Its interesting to see that the entire frame isn't fabricated. It looks like a '65 Ford stub to me.. When did they get away from having to do that in NASCAR?
these are awesome cars but you guy's usually start them and let people hear them on your car vids.. shame your not doing it for the old race cars.. would love to hear them run
Well if it’s the original engine that was ran I don’t blame them. I mean it’s been sitting untouched for close to 40 years and I’m sure a rebuild on that puppy won’t be cheap.
@James Murphy ruclips.net/video/YO2qaN9S-oE/видео.html This one sat from around 1996 when my dad parked it until June of 2019. 23 years. I did pull the valve covers and pan and flushed it the best I could, both oil galleys and water passages. A new gas tank and she fired right up... I've put about 2k miles on it since I got it running. The AC even works lol
I owned a 1976 cutlass S and had this same body style, damn room mate stole the car and sold it while I was working on the road for 6 months, came back to find he sold everything of mine and rented my house out and was collecting rent on the house I owned...I have never found him, no sense looking for a long jail term..:(
They did find it some years ago...it was sitting somewhere all used up by someone driving it in a bomber division or something. It's sitting in the daytona museum but they got the paint job all messed up on it.
Hard to believe Harry Ranier sold it. I asked Buddy Baker if he tried to find it. He said "it was like trying to find a pink rabbit", and that he heard some guy was using it on short tracks. Glad it ended up in the museum. I wanna see it someday. I bought a '76 Cutlass S because of that car!
@Herb LOL..I never met Buddy but that sounds like something he would say. Its always been my favorite paint scheme in NASCAR. I like this one Cale drove too, my dad worked at Busch for a long time, it's missing the gold rims though.
This is what a NASCAR race car REALLY looks like. Not them ones today.
I wished racing was like it was in the mid 70s and 80s, Rubbins racing great time for nascar

I believe they call this an 80 because it ran that year. Petty's Olds is called a 79 because he won Daytona in 1979. It is in fact a 76/77 body style.
right
Exactly, the actual 80’s were the downsized metric G body cars
Thank you

Really cool car but thats not a 1980 Olds. It's a 77 I believe. In 78 they downsized all the mid size GM cars. This is a colonnade body styled car
In '78 they went to the G-body at GM.
They raced the big car through 80
Special #11 it is. Love the race car of the great drivers
Tim Brewer, LOL..."OZEmobile" that's a southerner. My brother in law pronounced Oldsmobile the same way! 🤣
Why do people retroactively call it "Sprint cup" when it was called Winston at the time?

It WAS 9/28/80 at Martinsville.
It's sad to see it just sitting there not getting any road time

73 is the best looking Cutlass or Hurst year of all. Not the fastest stock but cash can fix that.

Its a 1977 Oldsmobile
I have 1978 with 403 66 i built the car
Get your shit right
it raced in the 1980 season
Is that a Eddie Lanier engine? I think that was his time with J.J. before he joined RCR.
Have you found Buddy Bakers Grey Ghost!!

Frame looks factory stock
76-77 442 not 80 lol
So really what motor? A GM motor of some variety?
Smallblock Chevy in that one, I would have thought they would have used a DX based Olds NASCAR engine.
I would really like one just like it but with a 572 under the hood and a flat 1&1/2"x12"@45 degree angle from the collectors.
Looks like a 77
80 loll
What a disgrace to the Oldsmobile brand and 442 name.
Why?
