    These turnout exercises have helped me so much! Even as an adult, returning to ballet after many years, doing these exercises has dramatically restored my turnout already! Thank you, Claudia! If you would someday make a video about perfecting and improving your retiré, that would be so helpful too!

    This student has that million dollar look - her eyes, her smile, her gestures ... - that radiant SOMETHING, the presence that reaches the balcony's last row in the audience. Good for her.

    I started figure skating a few months ago and man if I had a dollar for every time my coaches told me to turn out I'd never have to pay for a lesson ever again 😂
    My turnout is awful so I'm looking forward to practicing these!

      Do you think that a women age 34 with a little background in dance can start learning ballet or its too late?

    • @aclaar877

      Absolutely - I have read many accounts of people starting ballet late and getting pretty good at it.

      do it! :) I started at 34 without any background in dance and I've been learning ballet for 2 years now, sure I won't be a ballet star but that's not really the point, I just feel happy when I'm in the class :)

    Thank you so much! My studio is all for safe turnout, but they still want us to hold our turnout to a degree. When I go to competitions (YAGP, Master Classes, scholorship classes ect.) I always get corrected on my turnout. I still want to be safe, but want to increase my turnout. This video did a great job explaining ways to do so to me! Thank you again! ❤❤❤

    • @janedoex8345
      @janedoex8345 6 лет назад +13

      You can still feel the calfs getting closer toghtrther and almost pressing together if you contract the right muscles. I guess it's not only about how it looks but also to feel how to achieve the move and to achieve the right muscle memory. Mine also almost touch but if I really tighten my muscles the backsides of my calves come closer together and you also feel the burn....

    • @syamagauridd3964
      @syamagauridd3964 6 лет назад +3

      And here I am with a very strong X leg what can i say😅😞

    • @janedoex8345
      @janedoex8345 6 лет назад

      I always try standing parallel and then move my feet and legs without consciously moving them but only using the muscles and putting the weight on the heels so the leg turns only by contracting the muscles. And finally look how much I lack for the position and correct it. Can be done whole waiting for a train, in the bus, waiting in line at the store etc....^^ But I am still often kind of squeezing (my butt) and as soon as you squeeze you also tend to tuck under....But at least I'm aware. I guess not having had a single lesson that is to be expected....

    Thank you so much! I've really been struggling with turnout in my left leg lately. Question though, how do you measure turnout range, separate from turnout strength?

    • @Natiree
      @Natiree 7 лет назад +7

      Tikovka turnout range is how flexible you are, and turnout strength is how much of your turnout you can control when dancing.

    • @MarijeK
      @MarijeK 7 лет назад +2

      Tikovka Lay down on your stomach, bend one leg so your foot is toward the ceiling, and turn out (or have someone push it down) (gently!). The angle it makes, is your turnout. Now, you just have to train your muscles to use that turnout!

    • @mariannestoffers5067
      @mariannestoffers5067 2 года назад

      Maybe it's too late for this now, but to be honest my left leg was killing because it was on the other answers out. Port de liege is only like contemporary. I personelle then more remembered that my arms control the shoulder, I cannot take both shoulders... these idea survived me on in my holding both true legs.

    Fabulous video! I really wish this had been around when I was a little 12 y/o dancer and having knee problems that none of my doctors could be bothered to diagnose properly. In the end, I quit at age 13 because I was in so much pain and was advised, 'Well, just don't it, if it is causing you pain.' 20 years later, I wish I had had more help available to me so that I could really know if I had what it takes to be a great dancer.

    How do you measure turn out range? Does this mean some girls just can't turn out fully? Like locked hips etc. I'm in my 30's and always had a problem with turnout and no one to help but now as my daughter has chosen ballet as her first love in life (she has my body type, but still very young) I'm curious if this could be a problem for her later or will for instance your exercises help everyone.

    • @sleekhare
      @sleekhare 7 лет назад +4

      Erin S. Flexibility can be hard limited by bone structure, but it may just be a matter of finding the right strength and flexibility exercises for your daughter. You may want to take her to see a physical therapist that's familiar with dancers. Good luck! :)

    • @thedopeywatermelonx4081
      @thedopeywatermelonx4081 7 лет назад +1

      Erin S. You can measure your turnout range by doing an exercise called the frog. Lie onto your stomach and bend both you legs up behind you and try to get your feet on the ground. The closer to the ground, the more turnout you have. If you can't get the position, just search up on google frog dance exercise. Hope this helps. :)

      Elira M - Maybe try this, Stand in parallel and try to get both of your knees facing the front. Practise also when you are in that ( knees to the front ) position, try then rotating out to first position. It will get your knees and rotaters working. Try this also when you are in class about to start an exercise. Good luck. :D

    First of all, thank you for this video.
    Sadly, I have a terrible turn out. I will never have 180 degree turn out because my hips limit my rotation but my main problem is that I just don't feel the muscles on the insides of my upper thigh. I've asked several teachers for advice and no exercise or tip could help me. It's like this muscle doesn't exist in my body, I can't activly use it to turn out or help me lift my legs for battements which causes my hip flexors to cramp and my knees to hurt because I just keep my feet stuck in first position without having the posibility to actively rotate. I've been trying to "find" these muscles for two years now.
    Does anyone have similar problems? I'm open to all tips

    I have recently discovered your channel and really appreciate all your helpful tips. Do you have any advice regarding how to lengthen the leg muscles and really pull up/straighten them in each position? I have quite long limbs and often struggle to pull up my legs to the point where they are straight and lengthened to their maximum. Please could you advise me in any way? x
