Epic video! As someone from the Arctic (Alaska) it's great to see the history being told to a larger audience. Fred Cook is infamous in Alaska for faking his summit of Denali. Enjoying this new direction in content. After this would you ever consider covering the race to discover the source of the Nile? If I recall there's some interesting stories down that rabbit hole.
I believe that Henson is the first man to reach the North Pole. And if he isn’t the man to step foot on ice on the pole, he was the reason that somebody else did. One of the most underrated historical figures I’ve learned about.
Matthew Henson is the MVP of this whole saga. Incredibly inspirational gentleman. Found his autobiography on audiobook and listened to it immediately after watching this video. Almost did an all nighter. Highly recommend it!!
I'm a bit sad Johnny doesn't mention August Petermann at all in this episode. This guy was the driving force in how people got funded those expeditions to the North Pole.
Great video, Johnny! You mention Peary reaching the North Pole five days after Cook, but the titles and dates on the articles say it is nearly a year difference. Which one is correct?
I love your narrating, story telling, and facial expression, it really helps bring out the tone of the history of the north pole. Thank you for making and sharing this. I am now also appalled at this travesty.
Let me mention first that I really enjoyed the video (I always do). I did not read through all the comments. The one thing I noticed is that you didn't mention Shackelford. He was another explorer who financed a crew to go to the North Pole. They didn't make it but we're stranded. The only Survivor being a city Inuit woman who had know nothing about survival. She and the ships cat were they only ones left to rescue. A very sad yet fascinating great story
Hi Johnny! I commented on other videos recently where I wanted to know if you would address the situation with betterhelp, where they were found to sell user medical data to other entities without permission. I know that you have talked about privacy previously and the importance of using vpn and other stuff but I know that they are your sponsor and don't know if that's a reason to not address it. Data privacy is very important specially Medical health data.
@@mattjax16 The reason that I’m bringing this up is because there might be a lot of users who do not know about this situation and I think because he is promoting better help he should also bring this to peoples’ attention that hey they have been found to sell user data when they said they won’t and we’re fined 7.8 mil in a settlement, so even though they have great service and we don’t know if they will violate this again because obviously we can’t trust them, so do this at your own discretion.
Dude if i found these two on my own i would have spent hours apon hours reading and searching stuff. Thanks for doing all of that for me and making a video on these two explorers.
Today's Fact: Edgar Allan Poe's 1838 novel 'The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket' featured a shipwreck survivor who cannibalized his crewmates for survival; years later, the real-life whaling ship Essex met a similar fate.

Amazing editing johnny! You've seem to really really improved from the old days!
Johnny you forgot the most important people that made it to the north pole first. Jeremy Clarkson and James May where the first people to reach the North Pole by car
Enjoying this new direction in content. After this would you ever consider covering the race to discover the source of the Nile? If I recall there's some interesting stories down that rabbit hole.
I like these documentaries they educate more than news channels ever did plus it’s little funny
I love your work. Wish you all these for the future and looking forward to new content.
You might be my most favourite youtuber man .the content you an your team gather an edit realy is top notch. Keep it up guys an galls
Nice thumbnail of hyperborea
Really glad you decided to cover this story Johnny. Your love of maps is wonderful. Geography has never been more entertaining to learn about
I believe that Henson is the first man to reach the North Pole.
An OG abeed
I have to comment this now before I forget. At 7:31 where you mentioned that about the Greeny Doctor. That Doctor looks like you 😅
Excellent storytelling. Hope you're all getting paid equal (or more) to the effort.
I'm a bit sad Johnny doesn't mention August Petermann at all in this episode. This guy was the driving force in how people got funded those expeditions to the North Pole.
This is why I love your content you make history and social issues in a simple and enjoyable narrative.
Great video, Johnny! You mention Peary reaching the North Pole five days after Cook, but the titles and dates on the articles say it is nearly a year difference. Which one is correct?
The fact that we get free videos by JOHNNY on RUclips is priceless. 👏👏👏
Your editing is hilariously😭😭🤣🤣🤣 GOLD....awesome and educating video, one of the best I've seen.
But does it... have oil?
It does.
So since Johnny has made videos about the arctic and the Antarctic does that mean he’s bipolar?
I love your narrating, story telling, and facial expression, it really helps bring out the tone of the history of the north pole. Thank you for making and sharing this.
I am now also appalled at this travesty.
The amount of work that goes into these videos is beyond. Thank You!
Would have made more sense on a flat earth map
Not another flat earther
@@paulbeare9850 do you have a problem?
@@Yahzerael777 none what so ever, it just tickles me to think they are out there
@@paulbeare9850 ooh you are one of the ticklish ones, I understand
Thank you for bringing this up super important. Also VPNs only help so much all they do is change your IP address nothing more
@@mattjax16 The reason that I’m bringing this up is because there might be a lot of users who do not know about this situation and I think because he is promoting better help he should also bring this to peoples’ attention that hey they have been found to sell user data when they said they won’t and we’re fined 7.8 mil in a settlement, so even though they have great service and we don’t know if they will violate this again because obviously we can’t trust them, so do this at your own discretion.
I love this Johnny, outdone yourself again 🥰
Dude if i found these two on my own i would have spent hours apon hours reading and searching stuff. Thanks for doing all of that for me and making a video on these two explorers.
I know just found you, thanks to reddit! You have a very fun and professional production and the trivial education element is just *chef's kiss*
Today's Fact: Edgar Allan Poe's 1838 novel 'The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket' featured a shipwreck survivor who cannibalized his crewmates for survival; years later, the real-life whaling ship Essex met a similar fate.
Jules Verne's "An Antarctic Mystery" is the "sequel" to this amazing novel , also set in the North Pole
The way he just casually said “he cheated on his with a 14 year old” is crazy 😂😂
In my opinion, I give the credit to Matthew Henson. I remember back in elementary school in the 80s, during Black History month. He was credited as the first black person to the North Pole. Let's just say he was the first one there
I see u updated the thumbnail
I didn't click on the original one but this thumbnail compelled me, good job
I'm loving Johnny's recent move toward indulging his love for maps.
I'm very here for it. :)
Great, now it's melting. Might aswell extract the oil from it 🇺🇲

At 8:00 Cook was looking confident. Confidently INSANE! 😂
Boy the lisp. .. the dramatic hands play things are getting metro up in here i love it❤
Why the music ? Why the whimsical tone in your voice ? Are we being entertained or educated ? And if we are being educated why the need for entertainment ?
You noticed too?
