Hiking Sandstone Peak in Malibu via the Mishe Mokwa Trail

  • Sandstone Peak is one of my favorite trails in the Los Angeles / Malibu area. The trail has lots to look at and amazing coastal views once you get near the top. The 6 mile trail is not too tough either but it doesn't have a lot of shade so it's not a great hike in the heat of the summer. Let me know what you think about this trail in the comments.

Perfect video: informative and scenic. Lived in LA nearly my entire life and am ashamed that I haven't explored the Santa Monica mts at all. Used to drive up to Topanga for Sunday brunch. The 2018 fire left a lot of damage as evident in this vid.

There's a deep cave around Tripeak. It's one of my favorite undocumented spots along the trail. It's to the left of the boulder that he's standing next to at 6:08. You gotta do some searching to find it, but the best marker I can give is there are 2 large holes stacked on top of each other eroded into the side of the rock next to the entrance. Both of which are large enough for a person to lay inside of in the fetal position with the bottom one being larger than the top.
