@@TheCrooksandCastle I film most of the non-DIY parts in my living room, and the thumbnail indeed has carpet / a rug in it, so fair mistake. Thanks for watching and always happy to have comments :)
Good to know, I actually tried using some construction screws I had sitting around but they kept spinning out. My dad (construction worker / carpenter for 25+ years) gave me some coarse thread drywall screws and said they would be fine for this. Appreciate the input!
skip the screws altogether... wood glue is stronger than the wood fibers. And because it's a completely closed box (and not like a drawer or something where one end could get banged out of place) there's no way any of these are breaking or coming apart with wood glue. Most videos I've seen, guys just use brad nails.. and that's just to keep the glueup in place. No screws necessary on these.
harbor freight is a great resource for extra clamps. They're not the best... but they're good when you just need a shit ton of clamps. (and to be honest, they're totally fine... love my extra cheapo harbor freight clamps)
Nice! You’ve got some mad circular saw skills. I think Home Depot and Lowes will do some simple cuts on plywood sheets so you can get these in your car. Maybe include an affiliate link to the Apple boxes you talk about for those of us tool challenged? And cut lists in the description? Wow! Love the humor BTW. INCH! LOL!!!! 😂
Thanks! And I agree, not feasible for everyone but wanted to give folks an idea of how they could make these if they were so inclined. Thanks for watching!
I'm planning to make my own, but thought I'd watch a few YT vids first, for tips and references to optimum or standard sizes. In my ignorance I'd considered 18mm ply rather than 12mm (I'm in UK dealing with metric ply). Clearly 12mm is lighter. Conceptual design I find easy, also DIY, but I'm less sure about practical strength and any standards that might exist. So, I always try to see if I can learn from other's experiences. I'd wondered about making a hinged lid on 8/4 inch apples, to provide storage for grip kit (super clamps, cardellis, grip heads etc). Never seen this done and wondered if there was a 'good' reason eg too heavy, not strong enough, maybe a hinge lid compromises torsional rigidity - perhaps in turn forcing extra bracing and/or thicker ply (18mm)?? Id also considered 'nesting' to save space. My first idea was half, quarter, one eighth apples all nesting inside one another (Babooshka concept). That would be a full 8" apple high, possibly aslo incorporating grip kit storage and transit (military chest concept). Any concept requires prototyping to fine tune and optimise a design. I could do that, but I only need 1 box for myself. I don't intend to make/sell boxes, so 'better apple' production isn't a good use of my time. Hence trying to learn first and using the "carpenter's maxim" measure (think) twice and cut (make) once. I found other 'nesting apple' vids on YT (utilising 12mm ply) - 1, 2, 4 inch nest within 8 inch (7" internal for 1+2+4=7"). The full 8" apple is thus 1" wider/longer than part apples. But.... I wonder if strength of 8" full apple is compromised too much (removable end and no central brace)? Do you have any thoughts on that? If building that type of nest, I'm wondering about using a thicker top and/or thicker sides for the outer full apple box. Perhaps, 18mm or 24mm for top of outer apple (thicker side up) and maybe 18mm for vertical walls in lieu of a central brace and non permanent end? Any thoughts on that?
So I made a hinged prototype lid for one, works great, just never got around to making a video for it (have the script and everything, just need to build a second one and film it haha). So if you're interested I would say do it and let me know how it goes. For the nesting boxes... I considered that for awhile for space saving, BUT, I prefer the universal widths/lengths over saving space, so I opted to not. Nothing wrong with that route, just not my jam. IF you go that route, I would recommend heftier sides as you noted to account for the lack of interior bracing. Let me know what you decide to build!
Hey thanks! 😊 no real opinion on them honestly, I can imagine they would work just fine for this purpose. My boxes are holding strong a few years in, I can only assume any nail would do just as well. Maybe someone else with more info can chime in but I would say just go for it.
Thanks for the input. I'm making the box as a higher stand for our camera tripod. But I will make it as you showed to allow it to hold weight of a man, just in case someone stands on it. If the nails don't work, will let you know.
Thanks for the great video! The cut list is a plus! Now just have to wait for the lumber prices to drop!
Yes these will cost a fortune if you build them right now 🤣😭
Love this DIY video for Apple Boxes. Very entertaining too. "Inch"
Haha thanks! 🍻☺
This mad lad is cutting in his living room
I think I did it all on my garage 🤷♂️
@@DroiMedia lol my mistake i thought it was carpet. now that i take a second look , it is indeed concrete

FYI; drywall screws are pretty brittle. Go with premium wood screws or deck screws for a project like this

these videos are so helpful for independent filmmakers like myself, keep doin what you’re doin man
Thanks so much! ☺☺☺
Thanks! Very informative and detailed! Next project for sure.
Glad it was helpful! :)
I love It! Thanks From Argentina, I make six Apple Boxes Today , I subscribe too!!!
Awesome!
Great tutorial. I have one set I bought on the cheap, but will bookmark this if/when I get enough clamps to go through the process.
Yeah I think I was using literally all of my 14-15 clamps at one point. Let us know when you get around to building them!

@urwholefamilydied I have like 30 from there for then I need a buttload 😁

Great advice, I appreciate the feedback! There were too many numbers and measurements in this one so I tried to throw some goofy shit in too 🤭
Great video. Assuming you have the time and the tools, at least here in the US, $100.00 may well be worth it for the set.

Hi.. do u mind sharing the measurements in mm of all the boards pls?
Thanks bud. Very helpful. what are your thoughts on using Brad nails in place of screws?

I am doing this tomoro, cant buy apple boxes in Ireland
Let us know how they turn out! :)
Your video is awesome. I want to make friends with you, what should I do?
@5:39 “take a drink every time i say the word inch”
Me: Bwahahaha
Also me: i will accept that challenge...
*end of video* ...I’m already drunk.
Hell yeah! 🍻
