The one concern being his playoff record is NOT something that I'm worrying about. Pretty much the entire hockey media and a lot of Toronto fans have all said that the playoff failures was not on the coaching, it was on the team. They also went up against really tough teams every year and "Leafs are gonna Leaf". Keefe can get this NJ team to find their way back to the playoffs and then it's going to be on the players to ante up and kick in to find ways to win from there. I think we all know that Fitzy is going to try to find the keys to goaltending and defense in the offseason, so give Keefe a complete team and I think he's going to do well in NJ.
Also, as a side note, I like having a young coach who isn't part of the coaching carousel of the same guys who've been hired and fired a million times. Fresher blood is a good thing especially when we're considering how the NHL keeps changing. We need coaching that is going to work in the current NHL and not bring in someone who still has the style and planning of yesteryear.
Leafs fan here. A great coach. Team overachieved. One of the highest man games lost during the season. Injuries to Nylander and Matthews in the first round and still made it to the 7th game in OT. Only once were they favoured in a series and they won that. Yes they lost to Montreal but lost their captain in the first game. They outplayed them still but they got goalied by Price who made it to the final. Seriously a solid coach who will bring a winning attitude to NJ. Similar teams with similar issues with good young forwards, suspect goaltending and soft defence. He'll do fine. Great hire.
Thank you so much, appreciate the great comment. I agree, I think hell be a great coach with the Devils and I do like Berube with the Leafs. Good hires by both organizations.
"His playoff record sucks" 1) he's not solely responsible for Toronto being cursed 2) at least makes the playoffs every year which has not been the case for our team, 2009-2010 was the last time we made the playoffs in back to back season. He's a young guy with room to grow with this core, excited about this hire and I think we're going to see a lot of success under him.
Iam a Toronto MapleLeafs Fan. I Think that New Jersey did a Good job in Hiring Sheldon Keefe he do a good job Job Coaching the New Jersey Devils. I Hope he Does well in New Jersey. He has lots of Work ahead of him, However he Should Succeed.
I'm a lifetime leaf fan and loved Sheldon Keefe. I understood why he had to go. He made some mistakes and I think he will learn from his mistakes and it should make him an even better coach in NJ. Devils fans should see some entertaining games and Sheldon isn't afraid to get that "blender" out. He'll teach the forwards to play better fefensively and that will help the Devils succeed. I wish him luck but not when he's playing the leafs.
My choice would have been Berube, but once he was taken, Keefe is my 2nd choice. Hopefully, he learned that accountability is necessary and takes appropriate steps to get the most out of our young players. Keefe is supposedly a great communicator so if Holtz is on the team next year, there won't be any of Lindy's head games.
Totally agree, he should be just the guy to get us to win consistently. Just hope he instills a great culture. We definitely have some passengers on this ride.
He did a good job in Toronto. Some players need a change of scenario to be more successful, I hope that happens with coach and Devils. Regards bro, Is it october? 😂
You too & I know I cant wait, i miss the Devils playing, at least we can see some of our players in the IIHF, but looking forward to next season, and I think Keefe will do a good job
The Leafs have been run as a focus group and Keefe's hands were tied in many ways. The way the Leafs clawed back from 3-1 vs the Bruins, Sheldon abandoned everything and coached his way, low event and count on your game breakers to be the difference. He's also good at loading up talent like he's making a video game line up when down 2 or more goals. He's versatile. He won't have to deal with a lot of bs from management and media like he did in Toronto. And I'm saying this as someone that didn't like him when he was took over for Babcock. I think you might be getting him at the right time. And not a lot of coaches leave Toronto are able to ever coach again let alone not be universally hated by the fanbase. Keefe and Paul Maurice are the only two I can recall surviving this market.
I agree Kirk, NJ with the media and pressure is Alot less pressure than Toronto. I think Berube to the Leafs and Keefe to the Devils is perfect scenarios for those 2 guys and will both thrive. Also both teams will address glaring needs, Hopefully 🤞, and help those new coaches be that much better
I agree, the more im seeing of Keefe im liking. I saw some video of him in the locker room before a Montreal vs Toronto playoff game trying to pump up the team and I heard the fire in him.
Indifferent, i dont mind it, wasnt my first choice, he won in the AHL, and is good wit young guys.. plus Toronto is a different beast than New Jersey..
I'm warming up to Keefe, wasn't my first choice either, but hes shown to be a good coach. Just hope he doesn't take it easy on our star players like he did with the Leafs
Fitz openly admit there was too much of a country club atmosphere around the team this year. There is plenty of time for fun and lightheartedness etc, but there is also a time to get to business and be professional. It is a failure of management to have allowed this to happen to the point that they were questioning guys dedication to being in shape and putting in the work off the ice. A team that is a favorite as a cup contender doesn't have the GM telling people the players conditioning sucked at the end of the year. Unacceptable.
I agree Louie, and I do remember Fitzgerald mentioning this. Hopefully he brings in some playoff performers because this team needs some grit and hard on puck players along with our skill
@@THEHOCKEYSKATEDOWN Paying Palat 6mil a year because he's a guy that knows how to win. Where was he when guys were skipping the weight room? Hopefully a new voice makes the difference.
I cant see half our team out there this year lol, but we did make it through the Rangers last year so the potential is there, just need to add some umph to this lineup

I think hell do well in NJ. Im warming up to Keefe, hes been a good coach
Looking forward to NJD's future 😊 LFGD 💥
Me too Dennis, I know I say this every summer, but this is a big summer for us if Fitzgerald makes the right moves

He needs to be tough

I agree, im warming up to the idea of Keefe as our coach. I think of the names left he was definitely the best choice for us
New scene, new team. Keefe will get this offense humming. Fitz just needs to add a few pieces (goalie + defense) in the offseason. I'm happy.
Me too Mike, the more I hear about Keefe the more I like him especially with the names that were left

Yes Expecting Brube do Great things, Brad Treveling and Brendan SHANNAHAN, Also Keith the CEO.
Welcome to new jersey

What you mean with that blender concept? My first language is Spanish I still miss things lol
@@ancarde He's not afraid for mix up the lines to get better results
I think Sheldon Keefe will be an excellent coach with the Devils! I loved it that they hired him!
I'm liking it more and more now, think hell be good for us
Love this! He won a Calder cup in the AHL. The dude is a winner, Toronto players weren’t playoff performers
I'm liking this signing too

I think it'll be a good fit, hopefully the players buy in and its a good match for the Devils

Hell rally your troops up with a let's go have some fun rant lol you'll be a good seasoned team all the best
Thats my fear, and I saw him doing that with the leafs, but hopefully its a good fit
Welcome and good luck. Should be an improvement over Green.
Exactly Dean definitely an upgrade over Green, I think hell do well with us

I think it was a good decision. He brings way more motivation and fire than Ruff and Travis combined. LG 👹

Boy IDK. Word was he wasn’t hard enough on his players and I think that’s what devils need.
Thats the exact thing I'm worried about too
