    Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. They are very educational for those of us who have never worked on a flintlock. I'll be ordering a kit soon.

    Is there a video on how to "finish" the lock or do we leave it as received?

    • @45calibermedic
      @45calibermedic 2 месяца назад

      Late reply, but for their current CNC lock you simply keep the internals generally lubricated and ideally apply grease in a couple of places as they advise. There is a picture showing where grease helps more than oil on their website. The internals need no finishing by the user. The exterior surfaces (not the areas that touch the wood, only the areas visible when mounted) should be polished to remove the bead blasted finish and then finished to bright white or whatever color (or aged finish) is appropriate and desired. Edit: you can use sandpaper backed with dowels, popsicle sticks, etc. to polish the exterior of the lock. Don't use your hands alone. Some people get up to, say, 320 grit paper and then buff the steel.

    Thank you Jim … your kits are effortless and marvelous at the same time. My woods runner is fantastic! You’re making the history books my friend. Keep up the good work, take a little break now and again to avoid burnout. Your long rifles are second to none !!

    Getting ready to reassemble my SMR lock after finishing. I wanted to make sure I had the steps in the proper order and the lubrication correct. Thank you for such a detailed and precise product.

    Jim, it would be helpful to have an exploded view of the lock with names of parts and maybe torques for the screws etc. In fact, I would pay for a printed one to come with the kit or as a pdf from the store.

    I drilled out an appropriate size hole in a 2X4 in order to knock out the tumbler. The wood supports the plate and the tumbler falls into the hole.

      You could but we prefer to leave the lock in the white or use Jax Black, kiblerslongrifles.com/products/jax-black-darkener-recommended-for-iron-steel-parts?_pos=1&_psq=jax+b&_ss=e&_v=1.0

    I heard the top jaw screw slot was narrow to fit a knife blade or the tip of a bayonet. My original bayonets do not have a pointed tip the Tri-shape most bayonets end with a flat screwdriver shape. Jim, is this true about the screw slot in the cock jaw??

    awesome video.
    could you explain a little more about replacing the Fly? small part and hard to see in video.
    does it have a specific orientation or can it only be put together one way?
    thanks

    • @kiblerjim
      @kiblerjim  2 года назад +2

      It can only be put in one way, just be careful, they're definitely called a fly for a reason. They're very easily lost.

      @@kiblerjim I'm having trouble with this step as well. I blued my SMR lock and now I'm struggling to get it back together. The fly may only go in one way but I can't seem to figure out what way that is. I wish I had taken a picture of the year of the lock before I disassembled it.

    • @jeannieheard1465

      @charlesgrantham5216 I much fear losing the fly of my L &R lock, which I will contemplate taking apart today if the frizzen clamp arrives from Dyson (English company). I once lost a spring loaded part of a Radom (Vis 35) magazine catch and had to make one by hand...sight unseen.
