- Siddharth Varadarajan, the founding editor of The Wire underlined that senior lawyer, scholar, and writer Abdul Ghafoor Noorani who recently passed away wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to learn one thing from Israel - “how a democracy debates the functioning of the army”.
Varadarajan underlined that Noorani had written an article on The Wire illustrating this point though he was a critic of Israel’s policies against Palestine.
“An observer and a critic for six to seven decades, he (Noorani) had an ability to speak honestly and dispassionately about public affairs. Although critical of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian people, he would equally appreciate a good judgment of the Israeli Supreme Court on an important point of law,” Varadarajan said during a memorial meeting held for late Noorani at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi.
Further, The Wire’s founding editor underlined that Noorani’s criticism was always “well phrased and deeply researched, well argued, amply referenced, particularly if he was critiquing a judgement of the Indian Supreme Court.”
“Decade after decade, if you want to know the arguments that got under the government’s skin, you have to read A.G. Noorani,” Varadarajan said.

Nationalism does not mean that we should support the evil or atrocities or injustice being committed by the state/army/police/legislature/executive/judiciary/citizenry. Is there a rational and constitutional case for disagreeing with the Collegium in accepting the findings of sensitive nature ( by the govt) concerning the selected appointees ? Why should a presumption of malafide be assumed here ? AGNoorani was a towering figure , a stalwart in the best sense of the term. The problem however with Sidharth is that every discussion has to lead to Modi or BJP bashing. That is the reason the Left has lost its credibility despite some of their concerns being genuine and worthy of debate. They have squandered their political case in West Bengal and Tripura beyond repair and are left with no future in this country. The baby sadly got thrown out with the bathwater.

I always wonder whenever there is any news or discussion about a person belongs to muslim specificaly, views/comments are very very low. What could be the reason?
