Idk what it is, the aqua/turquoise to green to gold shimmer in a pinky/fuschia/reddish base just snatches my money, every time.😅 Thank you so much for this. It’s comforting to see other peoples’ regrets and not feel like I’m in a box of shame.😂
So excited for the destash series!!! One thing you could do since you love doing comparisons, when you get your destashes, film swatch clips that you can pull up for side to side swatch comparisons down the road. I have a yearly “Nail Jail” where I shove polishes in a box and if I don’t reach for them in 3 months, I give them away.
Stefanie, I only just discovered your channel this past summer, but you’ve quickly become my favorite “nailfluencer” hehe! I _have_ _to_ watch your videos before getting any new releases and all of your different series/themed videos are so amazing! Your upbeat personality and the passion with which you approach things is infectious! I sadly started off this new year with the loss of my beloved fur baby who was truly like a family member to me, so it’s been difficult getting back to normal with her absence. But watching your videos is one of the only times I’ve been able to smile, laugh, and get back to enjoying what I used to enjoy so much before. Destashing by color makes the most sense to me because then it's harder to justify to yourself why you want to keep two very similar polishes. Especially if they're shades you love.

I agree, you need to see all the similar ones together in order to pick the best one(s) to keep. Because many of the ones we destash are not 'bad" intrinsically, they are just slightly less good than another one.
This was a good video but bittersweet. It’s sad to be so disappointed in a polish for whatever the reason. I can only think of one indie polish that I regret buying but it was from a maker’s website. But keep in mind, I have a very small collection in comparison. I do have quite a few mainstreams that I regret from when I started buying about three years ago. Most of those are from China Glaze. I’m excited for you to start a destash series. I need inspiration to let go of the ones I’m not crazy about. I keep thinking of reasons to hang on to them!😂 Thanks for the video Stefanie!❤
"Ok delulu" is so real 😂 The amount of times I've bought a polish from one pic while not loving the others... 😶🌫 Unfortunately I had a ton of polish regret purchases last year, so my goal for this year is to try to reduce impulse / fomo buying; mostly when I'm on the fence for a polish. I was watching an underconsumption video recently and my biggest take away was the phrase "if it's not a hell yes, then it's a no". With this mindset I was able to skip Jan PPU since the one polish I wanted I wasn't sure if I should get / I already had ones similar. Now I just gotta make it through the rest of the year LOL but yeah trying to stick to conscious purchases for polishes I 100% absolutely love for 2025 💪

I'm always interested in how others handle collection management (tracking, storing, sorting, rotating usage, purging, etc). I only got into polish maybe 2 years ago, and to be completely honest: I COMPLETELY LOST MY MIND!! I've got at least 3 Helmers full of polish, nearly 500 plates, more decals/stencils/stickers than I can count, powders/pigments, and the list goes on & on!! And, no, I am not wealthy nor am I on any PR lists, so, yes, I paid for EACH AND EVERY ITEM out of my pocket. So, while I'd normally be salivating over the idea of shopping a juicy destash like I imagine yours will be, I will only permit myself to watch the series from the POV of learning from the process you use & taking away any helpful tidbits that I think will improve the overall management of my collection, including downsizing. Although I don't envy the vast amount of work it's going to take, I do look forward to being positively influenced by the outcome!!
yeah its at least relieving to not have had a bad experience like i often read about on reddit lol! sooo many issues with goopy or watery thin formulas, or colors looking soo off than the website pics. these were my own damn fault lol 🤣
I definitely had better success destashing based on colors/finishes. It helped me figure out what colors I preferred on my skintone. I realized that even though some looked identical in the bottles, I would find myself comparing similar shades and realizing I had a clear preference. The red with the slightly more pink I loved much more compared to the red with slightly more orange lol. It's tedious, but it was definitely helpful to sort based on colors, and I was able to destash a lot more that way.
Thanks for honesty in sharing the regrets. We all have them. A destash series is a great idea! It may help you going forward as you will be more cognizant of what you have and may avoid dupes in the future. Side note: I typically am not a blue polish person but decided to get ILNP Snowstorm on Black Friday based on your recommendation. I absolutely love it! No regrets there.

That’s how I feel about Mooncat Memento Mori, I want to love it so much because it’s gorgeous but when I put it on I don’t love it on me. Can confirm that very sheer polishes can look extremely similar. Because so little base colour pigment deposits on the nail, it has far less influence on the overall look. And each colour you do collect covers a wider swath of the colour wheel than you might expect. But if you are really determined to have more, you can always pick different shimmer combos. And by you, I mean me.
😲Not Ether Dragon!!! lol I have it and Lush and...I worked too hard to refresh that PPU Rewind page for ED, and love that finish too much, so I'm covering ears and not hearing you say they look the same, nope nope 🤣🤣 But seriously, I completely understand that you don't need double the shades if you prefer one over the other (and lowkey, I do prefer Lush's more purple lean, b/c ED can look a bit yellow in some lights...). It's the nature of nail polish buying, esp. online, the bottle, even a swatch can be wildly different from our expectations. This vid is why I'm so looking forward to your destash series b/c I like not only how mindful you are but also realistic and a little ruthless --- we need that in the polish space cause that FOMO/need for the latest shiny polish can hit hard and we all need a reality check on what works for us color, formula, and def. financially and space wise. I know these destashes teach me to not only be more picky w/ my future purchases, but keep my own large collection in check and more in-tune w/ me to where I get a lot of joy and use from it.

And I did the same with Omega Centauri -- mmmm beautiful formula, but not the color I was looking for exactly, plus I have so many colors in that range already. For some reason I thought it was going to be more...unique? I dunno.
Destash related: What if you first go through your collection and pull out the favorite polishes you have in a color category, then you can pick through the remnants for destashing? I think I will join you in this journey, and I might start with this approach. I’m going to divide my collection by finish and color for comparison. We all have polish purchases we regret, for many different reasons, so this is a very relatable video post!

@ I have a destash box full of regrets. Partially, there is a huge learning curve in this hobby. We have to buy the polish to learn if we like the colors, flakies, holo, shimmers, glitters, etc. But, I am disappointed in myself for most (not all) mystery polish purchases, dupes and too many FOMO purchases. I’m really trying to be aware of my purchases and make better choices. I think your voice is important in this hobby! I think we need to have hard conversations about our purchases and learning to make decisions to spend less, buy more responsibly and thoughtfully. Keep the conversation going!
This year, I’m planning on going through polishes and destashing a bit. I feel like I have a lot of polishes I regret for a variety of reasons and I need to let go 😂 I look forward to your new series!!
I'd love to see the destash series! I need to be better about destashing, since I do want all my polishes to go to a good home rather than kick around in my drawer and not get used. I try to use them all throughout the year. But I also don't want to get too tempted to destash things I might still have used, specifically so that I can have room to buy more - want to keep a lid on that!
yess same! it can be hard to determine what’s worth destashing, i would say the easiest place is with polishes that had bad formulas or colors that are very similar!
I use a sheerish blurring base coat with Ether Dragon; then 2-3 coats of the polish,( usually 2), and after a glossy top coat I add a matte top coat. Really pretty. Honestly, I have been trying to find a dupe for forever, and I have tried like every other aqua/blue/green/pink shimmer that comes up, and I have not found a dupe yet. Missed the rewind, darn, and I am having a hard time wearing it now because it is almost at the halfway point. Hoping their January PPU scratches the itch! It looks like it might be a similar formula...finally!
Yes! I’d like to see a destash! I seriously need to do that myself! And yes I have some regrets when I get a polish only to find out I have something so similar is silly! 🤦🏼♀️

burried juniber is one of the best greens out there for me! i loooove it even if it sometimes feels like 1% crelly but 2 coats really makes me love it! especially with a gold flake top coat or matte top coat on it to make it seem a little lighter
I HIGHLY recommend topping Lush with Ether Dragon. 2 coats Lush, 1 coat Ether Dragon and glossy topcoat - these two combined is the ultimate glowy duo. I promise you won't regret it.
same! it's one of my favorite polishes from this year! not sure if im biased because of Astarion but it was my first time getting a non dark vampy shade and I fell in love!

I have Cupcake Twister and LOVE it. But I don’t have anything like it in my collection. One of the last polishes I bought last year was a disappointment (I honed in on one swatch photo and disregarded the others). I’m using that as my touch point to keep me on track for my no buy 2025.
I literally bought ILNP Music Box for the same reason! I liked one photo and wished myself into thinking it will look like that. I have a rule now where I must like at least 2-3 pictures of a polish before I buy it!

It really sucks when you dupe yourself. I do that all the time. Like right now i could line up 6 mint blue w/ pink orange shimmer. And i keep buying them bc i'm delusional. 😅 so i totally get it.

I only really regret buying colors when they don't look like the pictures shown. I always try to watch swatch videos before I buy. Or if I dupe a color. But I won't know it until I buy it

Most of my regrets are also not bad polishes, they just are too close to ones I already have, or are not what I expected. Only a few are truly "bad".

yess same! it can be hard to determine what’s worth destashing, i would say the easiest place is with polishes that had bad formulas or colors that are very similar!

I use a sheerish blurring base coat with Ether Dragon; then 2-3 coats of the polish,( usually 2), and after a glossy top coat I add a matte top coat. Really pretty.
Honestly, I have been trying to find a dupe for forever, and I have tried like every other aqua/blue/green/pink shimmer that comes up, and I have not found a dupe yet. Missed the rewind, darn, and I am having a hard time wearing it now because it is almost at the halfway point. Hoping their January PPU scratches the itch! It looks like it might be a similar formula...finally!
Yes! I’d like to see a destash! I seriously need to do that myself! And yes I have some regrets when I get a polish only to find out I have something so similar is silly! 🤦🏼♀️

Thank you ❤ I think there are a lot of twins out there in the polish universe. If you don’t have a lot of polish or if you are beginning to collect, that is a good thing. When you are constantly drawn to the clones it’s probably time to destash and keep better records of your collection.
burried juniber is one of the best greens out there for me! i loooove it even if it sometimes feels like 1% crelly but 2 coats really makes me love it! especially with a gold flake top coat or matte top coat on it to make it seem a little lighter

I HIGHLY recommend topping Lush with Ether Dragon. 2 coats Lush, 1 coat Ether Dragon and glossy topcoat - these two combined is the ultimate glowy duo. I promise you won't regret it.

I’m glad that it took you a few months to get enough polishes you regretted for a video because that’s certainly a goal isn’t it? Not buying a lot of polishes AND not having a lot of them that you end up regretting 😂 I myself am glad that I only had like 1-2 polishes I regretted getting this year out of how many I got.
To me Berried Juniper looks great on you! It's actually a polish I've been eyeing but I haven't because I've never bought from them before and I'm trying to do a low buy. I think it's gorgeous tho! 😍 I love it ❤
I have Cupcake Twister and LOVE it. But I don’t have anything like it in my collection. One of the last polishes I bought last year was a disappointment (I honed in on one swatch photo and disregarded the others). I’m using that as my touch point to keep me on track for my no buy 2025.
I literally bought ILNP Music Box for the same reason! I liked one photo and wished myself into thinking it will look like that. I have a rule now where I must like at least 2-3 pictures of a polish before I buy it!

I understand the regret 🥲 I'm being more picky now, I have a few polishes I regret buying and is impossible for me to detash them because I'm not from US and ppl here don't tend to use regular polish and doesn't know about indie brands

It really sucks when you dupe yourself. I do that all the time. Like right now i could line up 6 mint blue w/ pink orange shimmer. And i keep buying them bc i'm delusional. 😅 so i totally get it.

All brands have issues with the polish not looking like the website photos irl. This is not just one brand for sure.
yeah its unfortunately a common problem for a lottt of brands 😅 i wish more brands would prioritize showing swatches in natural light, i know studio lighting is so professional and all, but chances are its going to look so different once we try them!

I only really regret buying colors when they don't look like the pictures shown. I always try to watch swatch videos before I buy. Or if I dupe a color. But I won't know it until I buy it
😅 I’m kinda relieved that the polishes you weren’t 100% pleased with wasn’t something I owned. I like this series and knowing the reason why a particular polish didn’t scratch that itch.

I did the *exact same thing* with Calcifer. I bought it both for the theme and for thinking it was going to be pinker. But no. On the nail it's nearly dead on for FotM. 🤦♀️
such a shame right!! bc you can def see the more pink jelly base color in Calcifer in the bottle at least.. ugh i wish it translated better 😩
