Genuinely I think this is the best song Studio EIM has ever made for this game. The way the child singing in the intro is heard only once at the start as it goes into the full chorus and then is overpowered in the second part of the song. Just genuinely I have no words to describe how swept off my feet this track feels. I cried at the song, I cried when I realized what was happening slowly to Ryoshu. And I cried at what came after this fight.
Genuinely this is one of my favorite games of all time.
This soundtrack alongside Fly My Wings are like the only ones to make me shed tears god damn why did they have to make such emotional music for one of the most heartbreaking moments not even in the canto but in the whole game. EIM did a great job with this
Realllll the only problem for me for limbus was its gameplay bc how easy or just not comparable to lor but I think they're getting there now , I genuinely had the funnest playing p3 canto 9 the boss rush was fun and you actually need to read for a few of them.
The entire song is beautifully haunting and painful to me. Its “cheery” and majestic, almost celebratory, as you’re forced to watch the torn remains of a broken person get even more dismembered till they can’t even be called a person anymore. Its a congratulatory track to a woman erase whatever is left of her in some vain attempt to erase the pain, and you can’t do anything but watch the world fade to white around you

It's super heartbreaking seeing Ryoshu erase everything about the world around her, including erasing the link between her and Dante, yet while the skill names, info, and passives of herself, Sora, and Ren's are being erased, her plan to save Araya remains untouched. She's doing everything she can to forget it, but the grief reaches so deep that she can't erase that feeling even as she's becoming a living concept incinerator.

Massive props to studio EIM creating seven entire 3-minute boss themes for part 3. All of which were bangers.
Typically the mili song outshines the rest of the BGM for me but this canto, I felt like the mili song couldn't compare to the BGM in terms of raw emotion. However, it was good for storytelling

I don't see many comment on this, but I love the detail that throughout all of this, Ryoshu is at -44 SP, just 1 away from corroding. She's completely losing herself, but still holding onto that one tiny thread of hope that everything's going to be fine.
A friend of mine was talking to me about how Carmen didn't reach out to Ryoshu, and since I was tired at the time of finishing the Canto I made an absentminded comment about how her resolve was that strong based off her -44 sanity, which was one of the first things I noticed during that node. I now believe that her memories were literally getting hacked to bits and losing coherency even with the entangled Araya, which prevents her from distorting and better fits the Muga state, a state of nothingness
I didn't know the text related to Araya was untouched and that makes it hit so much harder in the moment
Another detail most people don't notice is that Ryoshu starts at Level 75 during this fight (presumably her strength before Dante's contract) and then loses 5 levels every turn.

The idea that she's on the brink of distorting after losing her only reason for living (being locked at -44SP), but is indirectly preventing that by mutilating and erasing every memory and the emotion attached to her despair by using her sword on everything and anything is just peak cinema
One of her skills is named "paint" and it losing just the t is just perfect for what is happening
I think Ren is the monkey from The hellscreen. In the original story, Yoshihide's daughter saved and raised a little monkey. Later when Yoshihide's daughter was in the carriage burning, it tried to save her which just ended in failure and it met same death as her.

@firstnamelastname7298 Saru (meaning Monkey in Japanese) Is Ryoshu's backup sword when she isn't using the mindfuck blade (Arayashiki or whatever), the one you see her wielding before she is given the relic.
It was made by Callisto out of the Ribcage and bones from Saru, Ryoshu's adopted Dog. Its a bit of a throwaway line in the memories, between Ryoshu having lost those memories.
@first@firstnamelastname7298 parallel, in Ryoshu’s story, the Nursefathers/Rien are the Lord of Horikawa, Saru the Monkey (?), and Araya the daughter. Honestly, I think narratively speaking, Ren resembles the monkey role a lot more than Saru, since Ren seemed to genuinely love Araya/Dihui Star, and in the end, threw himself into the “fire” (Arayashiki) when Araya died.
In Rien’s story (whose past name was speculated to be Yoshihide), Hermes is the Lord, Ryoshu the daughter. Rien is a lot closer to book Yoshihide, where he is completely subservient to, and impotent before the Lord. He climbs the spider’s thread, hoping that upon completion, as long as he follows the path he has, ordained by the prescripts, he will one day reach the top, which never happens, and he ends up sporking himself.

This is absolutely undeniable proof that NT is coming next walp 😁
This canto presented some disturbingly real depictions of how abusive/toxic parents can leave someone scarred for life and that they will carry that pain with them forever. And the fact that this final section is basically Ryōshū completely self destructing and trying to rid herself of everything that connects her to that life after losing the one good thing that came from it just makes it hurt more.
It makes sense that in front of many of the nursefathers, she looked almost like a scared, angry kid because in many ways I imagine she still felt like one around them. Still just as tied to them and the ways in which they hurt her as they were to her and what they hoped to get out of her.

Fun fact: Ryoshu never attacks Outis and Mersault. Despite the fact that she is systematically shredding her memories, she still knows that these people are here to help.
Also for gameplay purpose, fighting muga ryoushu is probably impossible to won 😅

@midnighteclipsed2738It happened to me. Ryoshu was clashing with Sora again and again, constantly rolling lower than Sors, but still going. And it kept going for like 20-30 clashes, until Sora started rolling low and Ryoshu won

Genuinely one of the most beautiful crashouts in video games.
i think i really like how simple the end goal of the House of Spiders. like. the City is full of powerful organizations who are engaging in incredibly complicated and evil acts for relatively simple and mundane results. Ryoshu's entire life was ultimately an attempt to make a new singularity
not even to create a new Singularity, but to reinvent an old one. The one major limitation to the Concept Incinerator is that it can't incinerate _people,_ but an awakened yet empty wielder of Arayashiki has the ability to erase what the incinerator cannot

Fascinating that the music makes use of purposeful lags and glitches in its composition like when your music player has trouble loading up due to poor connection sometimes. It helps nail that they are fighting and Ryoshu is displacing time.

I love how this canto thematically parallels the Wheel of Samsara to the cycle of abuse with Ryoshu becoming the stage of Azura on the Wheel of Samsara by hurting her own child.
The only way you can escape both is to stop existing in the cycle altogether.
Not gonna lie, in my opinion this node is the peak of emotions of this canto. All of this just hit the hardest. Poland fight was just a curtain call compared to this. All of the incredible emotions are condensed here. Thank you dearly, Studio EIM. You popped the hell off in this canto, even more so than you always do.

oh right another detail, if you were reading the flavor text: ryoshu was intended to be a living concept incinerator/assassin, and the point of the spider house was to be a place you threw things to "forget" forever. this was not just the project of the nursefathers, this project was ordained by the fingers in total, given that later she received advanced tutelage from senior members
all the nursefathers, however, are outcasts, rejects, of the fingers. valencina was rejected from her famiglia due to getting humiliatingly usurped from her authority after only three days (hence she needed someone to beat up as an underling to prove she was still in charge). matthias was under suspicion of betraying the middle by being the only survivor of some other great siblings on recovering levaetinn (because he had killed them out of envy for the sword - and as a result, he puts on a big show of buying affection that he doesn't really hold, that we see when he cut kira). we don't really see much of callisto's past, only that the ring doesn't seem to have his movement as a dominant faction. fauvism and pointilism are the main ones we see elsewhere, not corporism - but he remarks that his gallery receives no visitors (even though the ring's corridors are accessible to other members) and he's obsessed with having someone comprehend his art, though he seems completely oblivious to their actual input (does albina even get a chance to have any expression that isn't just to fawn over his? did he ever listen to ryoshu's critiques?) and, as both hohenheim and sinclair said, the constant macabre focus is just tacky in a world that is regularly macabre. we hardly get a chance to hear shiomi's background, only that she's ryoshu's birth mother, but given the pinky's focus on free-spiritedness, having a child was even to her antithetical to the pinky's lifestyle, hence her constant resentment that ryoshu was binding her down. rien doesn't give us much personal reason to see why he'd be at odds with the index given he was faithful to the prescripts and, according to callisto, favored by his god, but we know he was on bad terms with them at the end where he's killing a proxy
but what does this mean? well, the fingers probably were expecting ryoshu to erase these black sheep when she was complete. after all, it was already in rien's knowledge that she could only be brought there by the despair of losing everything she cared for and resentment at everything around her. vergilius asked valencina what all this was for, and she was at a loss except a conviction that this was her 'ticket' back to her old life - he hints that the nursefathers might be oblivious to the real situation. they were always fated to be eliminated. if it were not by the sinners, it'd have been by ryoshu's blade
for those who haven't done reading, this was based on akutagawa's "hell screen," yes, and those a little more read might also have recognized his other story "a spider's thread" in this. but if you were paying attention to rien's lines during that last fight, he mentions something about being chased by "god's soldiers." you probably thought this was merely a reference to the index, but this was also a line explicitly mentioned by akutagawa in his autobiographical late story "the life of a stupid man," when he was starting to suffer from near-paranoid schizophrenia
"One of his friends went mad. He had always felt close to this man because he understood far more deeply than anyone else the loneliness that lurked beneath his jaunty mask. He visited him a few times after the madness struck.
'You and I are both possessed by a demon,' the friend whispered, 'the demon of the fin de siecle.'

keep this in mind with this canto with how many buddhist references there are about non-self (muga, great trichiliocosm, saying she walked the path of ashura) - see also stuff said about the aesthetics of cigarettes, or how the ring isn't just there to be the goofy artists and fill out the space of a finger. callisto's art was not just about the body, but for both him and albina involved severing and separating their own body as well. valencina is drowning herself in booze, matthias in toys and junk food, shiomi/araya in resentment and nostalgia, rien in a religion that made him into a mere copy of someone else. one of the themes of this chapter was "escaping the inevitability of self-destruction." it wasn't just ryoshu doing it to herself with the sword
i've seen a lot of people criticize this canto as hype moments or the pacing, but the actual characterizations and motifs were done extremely well if you look past the colors and nclair2 acting flashy
It's more likely the Rien just wasn't as devout of a follower of the index as he states himself to be. I mean, in his boss fight, he builds a lot of negative karma by himself and loses it's grace in his second phase.
It's likely that Sora was more faithful than he was lol.

@zobuzobu5817 Index Faust also shows us that following the prescript rigidly doesn't fulfill it 100% of the times, and with how Hermes wants Rien to be like Roland, what th prescripts probably intended was for him to break free of the prescripts, like how Roland broke free of his apathy to the city life, but Rien ultimately failed his purpose.

in canto 8 i felt like the kong fight was the real climax but it lacked the musical flourish
this fight, though, was easily the climax of the chapter, and i wish they lingered on it a little more - ryoshu should've just annihilated all the nursefathers this way

And when she use arayashiki the more of her move become unreadable since some letters start to gone like her memories start fading,

One thing I noticed during the cutscene where Ryōshū was slashing all around her, her silhouette was white. A bit of an obscure detail I learned from a RUclipsr was that the silhouette of an attack represented it's sin affinity, though white wasn't any sin affinity we've seen. Though there is a sin affinity associated with the color white in the files called angst. Don't know if this means anything too important but I just wanted to throw that out since it was on my mind for so long.

it's like hearing Ryoshu rampaging criers , she keeps on slashing and slashing the threads until it is completely severed so that she could forget everything and then the small singing voice of Ayara trying to calm her down yet to be blocked away by Ryoshu's sorrow and despair yet in the end , she managed to extinguish inferno flame that was burning inside of her , to show her love to Ryoshu after years , to complete the promise of being her mommy...
