    The movement that begins at 6:28 has such a quiet nobility, such a divinely inspired humanity, such a purity, a serene acceptance of life on earth and in heaven as well, that it had me crying.

    Played this sonata in 1958 with my teacher at his annual recital. He graciously allowed me to play the first cello part. Also played it at summer school at Mills College while taking a chamber music course with Margaret Rowell. Many fond memories. This is well played.

      Wow, having Margaret Rowell as a teacher must have been amazing, I had the opportunity to attend a solo cello concert performed by Matthew Owens in 2003 at Berkeley Art Center, a student of the well known cello teacher Margaret Rowell who talked heavenly about her, truly fond memories.

    Even though this Trio Sonata in G minor most likely wasn't composed by Händel himself, it's still very nice music.
    The notorious London publisher - John Walsh (1665-1736) - wasn't exactly in the habit of asking permission from the composers, before printing their music (often based on dubious copies being in circulation at the time) in order for him to make himself a nice profit. The theory goes, that Walsh probably wasn't able to get his hands on enough manuscripts by Händel to form a complete set of twelve Trio Sonatas. And that he therefore - in order to fill out the holes - simply grabbed a couple of Trio Sonatas written by other lesser known composers, and just published everything under the name of George Frideric Handel.
    It's also a bit ironic, that this particular arrangement for two cellos and piano has managed to make the Trio Sonata No. 8 in G minor one of the most (if not THE most) popular of "Händel"s opus 2 Trio Sonatas. ;-)

    • @h.k9697
      @h.k9697 Год назад

      @@jorgelopez-pr6dr This is an authentic Handel Trio Sonata, from his youthful days in Halle or Dresden (as are all his sonatas) and this can be easily verified as there is a similarity of thematic material to Handel's later works, a common compositional technique of him. Obviously the original is not for 2 cellos, but for 2 violins or violin and oboe and basso continuo.
