Peter Faulk, who played Lieutenant Colombo, got to pick out the lieutenants vehicle, and pointed to a Peugeot 403 (which at the time did not even have an engine in it). It became an iconic representation of the slovenly dressed detective. Although the car is not displayed in the Transportation Department at Universal Studios, Columbo's Peugeot 403 car can be seen around the backlot sometimes. Visitors taking the VIP Experience tour, who visit the massive Prop Warehouse, may get a chance for a closer look at the French car from 1959.
Based on words like Girocopter and Helipad, you’d think the roots of Helicopter would be Heli-copter, but it’s actually Helico-pter, meaning “Spiral Wing”. The last word has a silent P as it’s the same root as in Pterodactyl, which means “Wing Fingers”
For some reason this puzzle just clicked with me. The only stumble was DFW city as I'm not an American. I knew it was Dallas Fort Worth but that's all. Good puzzle, liked it.
I think 14A "Cameo appearance?" with the answer OVAL is referring specifically to the meaning of "image of a head in an oval frame" rather than the general method of carving. Also, you slightly misread 37D - it was asking for something *followed by* "D'oh!" on The Simpsons, not vice versa. WOOHOO therefore fits well, being an exclamation of jubilation on Homer's part before a fall.
Bag End isn't the town... The town is Hobbiton, Bag End is the name of Bilbo's home.

Ovate is oval shaped. Ovular is related to ovulation.
