1 year ago a man put out a simple yet informative video for those who wanted to complete a simple yet daunting task. As of today I too have completed this task with the confidence that I will not blow my house up. Thanks for a clean and to the point video.
Bought my parents a new stove and I had to install it myself. Well this video made it easy peasy. Wouldn't have figured out the adapter situation had I not watched this. Thank you!!!
Always put in new hose. Reason is they are compression fitting and one use only for safety critical applications. Reusing compression fittings is asking for trouble, whether it is gas line or water line. Hilarious that video title says how not to blow up the house Change the hose. It is better to be safe than sorry
Thank you for showing how to disconnect the gas connector from the stove....the second fitting is the one to remove. If tight hold the first fitting with channel locks steady while loosening the second fitting. 😊
Do you put the T+2 pipe dope on the adapter you installed where it connects to the gas line? Do you put T+2 on the 1/4 turn gas shutoff where it connects to the flexible gas line? You did not show this in you video.
Overall a good how-to video. However, I would have replaced the old flexible line with a new flexible line...but I would have also made sure that the new line didn't get all twisted and kinked when I tightening the fitting. Also...since it was demonstrated using two wrenches to loosen the fittings when removing the old line...why weren't two wrenches used when attaching the new line?!? Personally this is more important because you don't want to put unnecessary torque on your new stove's regulator or other gas line parts. That's kind of inconsistent.
I agree with all these points; I am awaiting your video when you show us all how to do it,... the right way!! Thank you. Honestly though, I had all these thoughts while watching the video. That said, I am still overjoyed he did the video helping me save lots of money.
Need a second wrench to support just in case and a new gas line please. Preferrably install with a safety valve. This is the easiest and most economical way to hook up a gas stove but safety is more important.
Nice video and you have the same range as I do! I want to install a longer (72") supply line and I think that I need a 5/8" (outside diameter) line for that. Do you remember off the top of your head the appliance gas inlet diameter? I could look but I would have to crawl over my counter and down behind the range. I don't want to do that more times than I have too because I'm old and lazy too I guess. Thanks for the video!
in this vid, your demo of turning off the gas valve is incorrect. you were actually turning it ON. with these valves (and all ball valves), the handle is perpendicular to the valve bore when the valve is closed. you clearly opened the valve.
I had to call a plumber to connect gas line to stove. Company that I have 5 year extended warranty with for appliances they don't train their employees to connect or disconnect gas line:(

Exactly. No background music, no annoying intro, no logo overlay. But I’ll let the subscribe and ring the bell reference slide because there might be a newbie to RUclips and this is the first video they are ever watching and don’t know how to subscribe. :)
Just a note there are three types of adapters in different sizes that allow you to connect your gas line to stove/oven. For example, the newer yellow gas line has its own adapter it comes with BUT you need to change your gas line stem/cap- it will not connect . The old silver gas line as shown in the video has its own adapter which you can buy to attach your NEW stove. Go to your Home Depot and they will find the right piece it’s $5-6. So you don’t need to change your gas stem/switch line.
You made a mistake as careful as your were. After you shut off the gas line you need to open up the valve to the stove and let it spark and burn off and or let the gas escape from anything that's left in the line.
Not a big fan of sealant on gas fittings as it can get squeezed pushed into the gas flow and clog the gas valve causing an expensive repair. Especially not on the tapered fitting. Yellow “GAS” tape is the best option only on the straight threads, use nothing on the taper side. There is a product to use on tapered thread on a HVAC mini split system but it is way different from the Recto-seal style sealant he is using hear. Yellow “Gas” tape is a very thick teflon tape that allows the fitting to slide and seal easier than bare metal. It is not the same as the white ultra thin tape and doesn’t shred easily like the white teflon tape. Always use a secondary wrench to keep from twisting the gas valve on the stove or the gas valve on the wall. I like real wrenches with crescent style in close second choice and slip-joint pliers in last choice for tightening and first choice to damage things.
Just had this conversation with the plumber who redid my gas line yesterday. Do NOT use regular plumbers tape. The natural gas will dissolve it over time and can cause leaks. You must use the tape specifically made for gas. (yellow).
FYI for those finding this now, you DO NOT use pipe dope on a flare fitting. It can interfere with the fitting seating properly and actually cause a leak. I can see in this video he did use it on that fitting as well but didn't mention it. Don't use it, its designed to be used without tape or dope.
Thank you! This fully explains why Lowes wanted $354 to do this job and why I can't justify spending over half again as much as the range for this simple procedure.
Yes. The gas valve to the gas line was directly on the other side of the wall. The location of the valve is not as important as having the stove line properly hooked up to the gas line.
I have the same exact stove. The manufacturer says to place a wrench on the inlet nut on the other side of the regulator when tightening the supply line. This will ensure that there is no stress placed on the inlet valve. Just my 2 cents, but a very informative video.
You should have replaced the gas line because there is a compression fitting on the female connection to the stove. Once its been compressed (fitted to old stove) its now compromised. Just a safety thing for me. Otherwise, good video; spoke clearly, kept it simple and the video angles were good.
@@afnoot He did seal the other connections, you could see the sealant... But yea on a gas line how to showing every single step including every seal is probably best. Daunting task at first but easy if you're safe about it

@Susan Hafner That's very interesting that a gas jet kit was not included with the new gas range (leave it to Lowe's). We just replaced the still working Whirlpool gas range that was installed in our house, when we had it built 5 years ago, with a Frigidaire induction range. The Whirlpool gas range actually came with a jet kit to convert it from natural gas to propane, which we still have and never used. Propane actually requires a smaller jet orifice, since it has more BTUs (energy) per cubic foot than natural gas (methane) does. Therefore, less propane is reqired to do the same amount of cooking as natural gas. I like to cook, and I used to swear by gas stoves. However, after switching to induction, I will never own a gas stove again, which is probably a good thing since they are gradually banning gas stoves here in "everything has to be green and expensive" California. The only drawback to an induction range is that it requires a 240v/50a/4 conductor circuit for power, which can run another $1,000+ to have installed, if you don't have the electrical circuit already. That all being said, I hope you had good luck getting your new gas range safely converted to propane use. 🙂

@@TheGuitarman1968 thank you but nope 🙁 gas oven still has huge flames 🔥 when I try to use it so I am currently using an air fryer 😕 I live off grid
But I have heard a lot of talk about the induction range and stove from RV folks
I am getting quite good at the air fryer but miss using my unsafe oven
Stove works great though
Hi there, quick question do i have to put a new hose when i put new oven in and the old one looks likes it has the adapter and new yellow hose gas line, do i need to put new one everytime?
Although I didn't in the video because I was dealing with an almost new line, it's recommended to replace the hose.
Ok thank you it looks like when they remold my house its has that yellow hose seems new...
You have a strong thumb nail. 😮
Big thumbs up just because my alive and haven't exploded in my house! hahaha
It’s recommended to use a new universal gas connector kit. I installed a new stove in my fiancée’s condo unit after watching this video
Love the hand guide razorblade use. Classic dad DIY move.
