I love that beautiful hymn "Come Ye Thankful People Come" which I've sung since I was a child. Although I'm British I always note the Thanksgiving festivals in the US and Canada. I often watch the movie "Planes,Trains and Automobiles" and although it's very funny, it also says that there are angels around us, to help us out when we need them most, even if it's not always immediately obvious! Oh my, so glad I found your channel! @ 5:36 I had t he same overwhelming feeling of wanting to go "full on Christmas"! And around the very same time frame as you did! That has to be the Holy Spirit beseeching us to LIGHT up the world with His Name and Grace. This has been pressing on me for months now. Yes, I still have my Harvest decor up but am slowly adding in the Christmas decor because of the same reasons you mentioned. I am thankful for God's gifts of the harvest and bounty I grew this year and have shared that bounty with parents and offered to neighbors but, alas, they do not eat vegetables. Both Seasons are about about gratefulness and giving, and, therefore, not strangers! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and life with us. Very much appreciated. Donna, you always give me good things to think on. For the first time since we married and moved to NC we will not be celebrating Thanksgiving with our family. We just returned from a wonderful 2 week vacation cruise and Disney trip with our daughter, son in love and granddaughter and decided to stay home for a much needed rest from traveling. But it’s hard knowing they will all be together without us. But I am more involved with advent preparations this year and decorating the church for Christmas which I’ve always wanted to do. So there are some trade offs here. I also had some corn husk dolls at one time too! Also my mom made them to sell at a church bazaar one year. I love the crafts and things that you do. Very moving sermon/homily Pastor Donna. Please keep me in your prayers. I was dismissed from a school with a religious ethos because l didn't want to leave Special Needs. There was subtle bullying even by the priest. Tomes were written on transparency and yet once again everything is swept under the carpet. I'm still fighting a lone battle to resolve the issue but thankfully l've got beyond most of the bitterness. I have decorated for Christmas on November 1 sorry many many years. I embrace Thanksgiving with my Christmas decorations around me. Somehow it works for me as it reminds me to be more thankful in the dark days of November. With all the turmoil and sadness happening in my life, I needed it more than ever this year
I have been decorating earlier and earlier too in recent years. I think I woke up on Nov. 1 wanting to decorate for Christmas because I too felt like I needed more joy and cheer. I do plan on putting up some decorations today, Nov. 23. They are just so beautiful. We should enjoy them for as long as we can. Here's to a wonderful season of light and good cheer for all. I have decorated for Christmas on November 1 sorry many many years. I embrace Thanksgiving with my Christmas decorations around me. Somehow it works for me as it reminds me to be more thankful in the dark days of November. With all the turmoil and sadness happening in my life, I needed it more than ever this year
I have been decorating earlier and earlier too in recent years. I think I woke up on Nov. 1 wanting to decorate for Christmas because I too felt like I needed more joy and cheer. I do plan on putting up some decorations today, Nov. 23. They are just so beautiful. We should enjoy them for as long as we can. Here's to a wonderful season of light and good cheer for all. Hi Pastor Donna I don’t think my message went though I think we probably eat much the same foods for Thanksgiving we have Turkey yams potatoes trnip brussel sprout and my favorite pumpkin pie it is just me and my kids are family is very small now. Take care .
Ah, thank you for sharing what a Canadian Thanksgiving meal is like. Yes, very similar. My holiday is very small, too. It has been just my husband and I for several years now. I often spend most of the day walking in the woods alone and then sitting down to a quiet meal with him. Blessings to you!
