- Hey everyone! I recently graduated from MoPA (supinfocom) and wanted to showcase the shots I'm most proud of from the past 6 months of work on the graduation movie "Au revoir mon monde".
I was responsible for all the FX and CFX, and worked on some compositing towards the end of the production.
Hope you enjoy the reel and feel free to connect with me to discuss potential collaborations or for any informations, i'll be glad to chat !

I can't tell you how much I hate looking at grad student show reels looking this good. Congrats it looks great.... *Storms out furiously*
Great work I love videos like these. Thank you for taking your time to show the breakdown of the simulations.
love how you had an anchor point in every shot where the fish is like the squirrel from Ice Age, going through world ending shit every second...nice work man
Wow.. that’s so amazing 🫡
One concept+ almost all fx 🔥👏👏
Absolutely amazing!!!! Well done :))

❤️🔥
Bravo Quentin! Le film il tue !
Merci Tristan !
That is incredible work Quentin. So inspiring. Was all this done in just Houdini? Can you give any advice, best courses, etc, to learn Houdini? Thanks.
All the fx are done in Houdini. Well sidefx has great documentation, steven knipping has very affordable and incredible tutorials
Thank you for the info Quentin, appreciate it.@@quentindevred
do you think the version difference in houdini 16.5 to 20 makes difference while following knipping's tutorials? cause he is using 16 to 18.5 versions of houdini.Thank you. Great demoreel btw.@@quentindevred
@@AbdullahYazbaharWell i find it even better to learn from previous houdini version, because you understand the logic behind the new sop nodes and are able to recreate it/customize it if needed.
And a lot of things are just still up to date
i can't see my previous comment, i guess its deleted so don't remember what I asked but thanks that's a good approach@@quentindevred
really cool work would love to see the full film... where can i see it :)
It's only visible in festivals for the moment. It might be available in about a year
cool
Hi Quentin, could you share some tips on making "Post sim bend" like you did for the meteor?
Sure! It's the same operation as a volume deform, driven by a sop bend applied on the sim and a proxy for previs. But the trickiest part was to get the trajectory right according to the bend amount. (Anchor point of the bbox of the sim at the bottom and then some expressions to get the trajectory)
Cool man! Wonder what was the school program that you joined in the past to learn Houdini?
Actually a 5 years school studies but as cg generalist, i learnt houdini by my own
How much time did it took you guys to complete the film & with how much people in your team you guys achieved this output?
This looks incredible man!!!
It took around 6 months preprod excluded
Woowww awesome job!!
Where Can I watch the final video?
Only in festivals for the moment
how did you realized this cool glitch effect with your name at the start at 0:07 seconds?
Just some very basic after effect haha, really nothing fancy
Were all the steps of your demo reel done with Houdini, or did you use any other software, specifically for compositing?
Depends on the shot, but always Nuke for compositing
Teach me what you know
Insane 🔥🔥💀💀 how long to end all of this ? a year ?
6 month for the fx-cfx part of the shortfilm
6 month no sleeping
@@ghost62370exactly
Wait this was all done in Houdini or you used stuff like Blender, Cinema 4D for the main rendering and Houdini only for the vfx (simulations, explosions, liquids etc)
It depends on the shot, some were rendered on maya/arnold
great work!! im curious. what is your PC specs?
Thanks! Well, it was the school's computer. I can't remember the exact Xeon CPU it had, but not the best for the task haha. Otherwise, GPU RTX 2080, and 32GB of RAM.
@@quentindevred wow! thank you for the info!
bro, where did you say you studied? I want to learn too!
Haha you can ! i learnt houdini on my own
Where did you learn all that?
It's primarily self-learning. I would say SideFX's documentation, some online courses, and a lot of experimentations.

Holy cheetos
Have you got hired?
Only got some small freelance gigs. Almost impossible to find a job as a junior at this time ..
@@quentindevred there's no way it looks so good! Well they probably just need like a year or two of experience on ur resume, you got it!

Not planned yet but maybe one day
