- My G63 is now an absolute beast making crazy power thanks to a tune from RENNtech! Let's put it on the dyno with the new upgrade and Akrapovic Evolution Titanium exhaust to see what power it's making! You might be quite surprised by the numbers...
Visiting REM Motorsport near to the Nurburgring to put the G Wagon onto the dyno, we can compare the various different stages. With a run already completed of a stock new model G63, the first test is to see the initial gains that come as a direct result of the Akrapovic exhaust and the linkpipe, both from titanium and forming the Evolution exhaust system.
The initial numbers are quoted at 585hp and 850nm but even a stock car ran to 626hp and 930nm - quite significantly stronger than quoted! However, with the Akrapovic system we recorded 669hp and 995nm!
Next up comes a RENNtech tune; programmed from the RENNtech Handheld Tuner to see what's possible and where it can reach. The beauty of the system is that it enables quick changing from stock to tuned just by connecting into the OBD port. Running again then the numbers are incredible; up to 727hp and 1068nm, unbelievable for a G Wagon! It feels like I need to take the G63 to a drag race, I suspect that despite it's 2,550kg weight it would still leave a lot of cars standing that you wouldn't expect.

If you have it on contact and sport+ you can pull and hold the down schifter on the steering wheel and then start it, you start it in loud mode, it starts with more rpm. Works only with the new AMG cars. Like for shmee to read this

It's the W460 and W461 that are built like tanks. They are the Nato and Military spec one. They can be bought in some markets but not in the US or UK. South Africa or Australia they can be picked up with a V6 diesel. "hulking Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not survived the Australian Outback, with six vehicles experiencing shock absorber damage and breaking down during a demonstration drive along Western Australia’s notorious 2000km Canning Stock Route" Yep they all broke down and the only one to make it was a W461 professional. Truth is the standard G's are built for the roads and as such made for people that never take them off pavement and have enough money to replace them after a a couple of years. The W461's come with almost no electronics or luxury. Thats right wind down windows no infotainment and a tuned V6 that won't speed but gives huge torque at low gears. The Jimny would be better in a serious off road situation compared to a G63 as the Suzuki would be less likely to fall apart.

It used to be an expensive (though more luxurious) Jeep. The old G-Wagen was a relatively awful ride; it was best served as a diamond-crusted middle finger to almost everyone. This new one is better in just about every way

Absolutely insane and respect for tuning it. I drove it stock for a week and got terrified by it sometimes, because the front tires seem to lift off when you give it full throttle so you cant really steer that well and it "swims" around. I wouldnt have the balls to give it more power.

Have you considered adding some interior accents, modifications? I love the exterior topaz skin but the plain black interior could use some shmee touches.

I honestly did not know that cars hava Dyno mode, that is pretty cool. What's missing in the g63 is a launch control.

Be interesting how they try and enforce it and there will have to be some sort of override for maintenance.
The most astonishing point about this motor is, that the party still starts at ca. 2.700 RPM - the complete opposite of a eg Porsche GT3 engine.
BTW, AMG also knews that a higher Turbo pressure could produce more power, but they have set the limts to certain points, as they give a warranty and also wan´t to fulfill the Mercedes lifespan expectations of their customer. So every one, who will buy used and tuned car should be aware, that this car is far away of the usual lifespan.

That's roughly 875 HP at the crank. If going off of 20% drivetrain loss on the AWD system. Use to be that AWD was calibrated/calculated at 25% drivetrain loss on older vehicles. Not sure if that's same still today so that's why I said 20 percent . That's crazy power 875 hp. Is that really possible for just exhaust and a tune? Shiiiit wow.

I think this is more safe because its via a box to plug in the osb. A normal remap stays on the car. But with the rentech box he can just plug it in and out.

Yea I wish he had mentioned that cause I don’t know how it works in his country. But technically it does affect his warranty and technically it doesn’t.... cause the only time your warranty or service plan gets cancelled is if they run diagnostics on your car during service and it shows that you don’t have stock ECU engine maps. With the Renn Switch he can flip the car back into “stock mode” so they wouldn’t be able to tell the car is tuned BUT he has made a video about it so he kinda has visual proof that his car isn’t stock, but yea.... it’s weird cause his car will show up as stock at service but they can pull up this video🤷🏾♂️😂 and I’m not even sure about the exhaust messing the the service and warranty.

@@CITRUS-- yea thats what i meant too. And normally these high end aftermarket exhaust companies give out a validation attest. As long as the car is ok for car inspection, the exhaust shouldn't be a problem
There's a warranty from RENNtech! They cover it in this case if Mercedes wouldn't because it's directly and proven to be linked

So the G63 is 720~ HP at the crank stock and now it's about 840HP. Crazy
Only way to find out what the engine is delivering, is remove it and place it on an engine dyno.
The dyno is however as shown in this case, a great tool to show differences when changes are made.
I would suggest these runs were never at 1:1 gearing and hence included torque multipliers thus resulting in higher figures.

_Milo that’s what I thought, but Mercedes rates the G63 at 577hp which would be at about 432whp based on a 25% drivetrain loss. So I don’t see how a tune and exhaust could add nearly 300whp. That’s why I feel that these numbers are somehow at the motor.

These numbers must have the correction factor adjusted and calculated to display a number more in line with crank power. There is no way this stock G63 was making +40whp and +80wtq going through a 9 speed auto, 3 differentials and 4 heavy wheels. I've noticed UK being butt hurt over the difference between crank and wheel power more then others. Remember the GT500 episode of Top Gear and Wheeler Dealer dyno episodes?
