Was definitely time to loop back around to some FLEETWOOD MAC!! Hope you guys enjoy the vid! What’s the next track we gotta check out by them?! 🔥🤟🏻 EDIT: Sorry for the wrong Album Cover!! Lol!
Please listen to the live version in 76 . Stevie introduces "this is a song about an old welsh witch". She wrote this song after reading an old tale. The entire band goes crazy during the live performance with Lindsey doing a fantastic solo and then Stevie gets almost possessed and what you hear in this studio version as the end...well, she is just getting started in the live version. And also, if you enjoy "The Chain", check out the original demo of it that Stevie showed to the band before they reworked it. It's on the rumors extended version and listed here as "The Chain Demo". But it's just Stevie and a guitar and it is SO GOOD. She took bits and pieces that the studio version didn't end up using and you can hear them in some of her other songs. Just a fantastic songwriter.
Guys, THIS was the THE SONG that launched Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks in to the aural stratosphere. This song was where her Welsh Witch persona derived: Unbeknownst to Stevie, at the time, when she wrote the song in late 1974, the song perfectly depicted the Goddess of Birds and Horses, Rhiannon (from Welsh Mythology). It was kind of a poetic premonition by Stevie, and she's never been the same since. Since 1978, she's had an entire album/soundtrack of songs written for an animated film called, The Song of Rhiannon, that's still in the works. I believe this single went to #14 on the charts, and stayed there for like 6 or 7 weeks, much to Mick Fleetwood's delight...it became one of the biggest reasons new and old fans of the band came to see them live in 1976 and onward. You guys should watch Fleetwood Mac's 1997 (The Dance) live performance next, to get the visual effect.
Rodzilla Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks would go on to make more albums and go on tour, many of their songs to be played on the radio. In a lucid dream by Stevie she saw that if they sold albums prior to going on tour fans would know the songs when they were performed. Stevie sang some songs, others she didn’t. After having an erotic dream one night Stevie was inspired to write “Tusk”. All the songs on the Fleetwood Mac albums are performed by Fleetwood Mac.

Anyone who knows music and rhythm sections knows what a monster drummer Mick Fleetwood is. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie were the best rhythm section in the business.
When Fleetwood Mac was auditioning Lindsey Buckingham for guitarist they didn't want Stevie Nicks, but Lindsey said they were a package deal. They were still unsure, cuz they already had a female singer in Christine McVie, so Lindsey had Stevie sing "Rhiannon". That sealed the deal.
Classic tune for sure with exceptional musicianship. Tasteful keys from Christine McVie, awesome guitar from Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie's vocals are hot, perfect harmonies BUT the rhythm section is the driving force. John McVie's bass lines and Mick Fleetwood's drums are insane throughout. Top notch stuff.
Lindsey has to be one of the most underrated guitarists of the era. Granted, there were some pretty talented people making music in this period, but I'd put him up against any of them.
It's nice to hear a song that you have heard for years and took for granted to see you guys listen with fresh ears is like me discovering it all over again. Brings warmth to my heart💗
I'd like to recommend Linda Ronstadt. One of the great vocalists of the 70's. At one time Linda was the best selling female artist and had many huge hits in the 70's. Her original backing band was The Eagles, yes my dudes, those Eagles. Her 1974 album Heart Like a Wheel is a stone cold classic. I recommend starting with her amazing cover of the Little Feat song Willin', or Dark End of the Street both from Heart Like a Wheel. The big hit from that album was a track called You're No Good, also a great track.
Linda was my first crush. Thanks for recommending her! Of all her albums my favorite is Get Closer or Simple Dreams, although I first saw her live at the Back in the USA tour.
I saw them LIVE at the Hollywood Bowl when the Tusk album first came out! The USC Trojan Marching band, suddenly came down the isles, and up on to the stage with Fleetwood Mac! IT WAS AWESOME, POWERFUL to say the least! The acoustics were indescribable! The crowd went crazy!!! SO FUN! :)
It actually didn't make the "Buckingham-Nicks" album either as it was written in '1974, one year after the release of that album in '73. A version was recorded live in Alabama and does appear on some CD's (which I think might very well be bootlegs.) It can be heard here: ruclips.net/video/nDHpcnHGYkM/видео.html
Ah yes, I think she said that when introducing it live once. I'm pretty sure she didn't mean it literally though - probably someone she fell out with who happened to be Welsh.
She continues to influence fashion. I'm 51, when a 20-ish clerk asked what length & style skirt I was looking for I said "formal Stevie Nicks." Kid went to a rack and pulled 2 skirts & 3 dresses for me to try!
Hard to believe Fleetwood Mac's eponymous album was released 45 years ago. It stands the test of time and sounds as good today as it did in 1975. The album was released July of 1975 and peaked at number 1 on September of 1976. It remained on the charts for 168 weeks, a precursor of the success that was "Rumours".
Yes!! This song is mystical/mythical/magical. I love that you appreciated this version. Although, I will say when you see it live (Midnight Special version), Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, it will blow your minds! This ends up to be 6+ minutes of Nicks in a trance like, exorcism state. Lindsey letting it rip on guitar and good ol' Mick, Christine & John adding all of the flourishes needed to add even more magic!! Loved every moment of this bewitching reaction. So excited!! I love the live version of this from "The Dance".. 1997. FM is definitely one of those bands whose live performances match and often exceeds their studio stuff.

Lindsey Buckingham is a severely underrated guitarist. I've seen him solo twice, and was blown away both times. If you ever get a chance, when he's on a solo tour, go see him live.
Interesting comments about not understanding what it was about and then Alex saying it sounded 'witchy'. Stevie wrote the song about the legend of a Welsh witch named Rhiannon. Fleetwook Mac started out with Peter Green and was a major blues band but after Green left, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie added Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and a new incarnation was born, starting with the album this was on. They really came to appreciate Lindsey's sterling guitar work and Stevie's amazing writing.
I think that was really cool too with him not knowing what the song was about yet still getting the gist of it plus Stevie's vibe/persona. Alex nailed that one.
I just realized that those of us quarantined are living the times when we hung around in an apartment, smoking and listening to music together. I'm craving those days again.
Fleetwood Mac are in my blood forever! Unique and just awesome! Saw them live 12 years ago, in Glasgow, and it was beyond outstanding. Have had their songs in my head since the 70s. Love seeing your reactions guys. Thankyou for sharing their music.
So was John Stewart's "Gold" with Stevie on backup vocals. She was in huge demand then, shame she trashed her voice due to Mac's non-stop touring off of Rumours and Tusk. Not totally,of course, but she definitely lost some of her range around 79-81.
When I focus on the rythm section in this song, It's always given me the feel of a river tumbling over stones and small waterfalls. You can listen to the drums and visualize it.
On the live version FM played pf Rhiannon on "The Midnight Special", Stevie and Lindsey pulled out all the stops in one the most incredible performances I've ever seen!
I've suggested this one before. This record combines Stevie's voice with a fine Petty composition, with the Heartbreakers playing excellently as usual.
There is a live version of this song from the Midnight Special, somewhere around 1973, that might be one of the all time great live singing performances. Really worth a look. Loving the diversity of music on the channel lads, great stuff.
Had to have been at least '75 as that was when this appeared on the first Fleetwood Mac album with Buckingham and Nicks. But probably worth looking for in 75 or 76, I would guess.
Absolutely!!!!! ABSOLUTELY 💯..I MEAN SERIOUSLY. Birds of Paradise, Don't get me wrong, Middle of the Road. Chrissie Hynde is the quintessential Rock 🎸 mama of all time. Still going 💪 she's my girl crush.
Dudes....you need to watch the Live version of this song....seriously! Look for The Midnight Special. The live version is a completely different animal! And Lindsey has a heck of a guitar solo.
Even though the Buckingham/Nicks era was great, and it is the more commercially successful incarnation of the band, I prefer the Peter Green years. He is such an under rated talent. The constant between the eras is Mick and John, one of the tightest duos ever.
Personally, as A&A have done Santana's version of Black Magic Woman, they should compare the original from an earlier incarnation of Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green.
Well Stevie Nicks thinks it's about an old Welsh which. Type "Rhiannon Fleetwood Mac Live 1976" into RUclips's search engine. It should pull up a great version from The Midnight Special.
My God what a band. Each one were masters of their crafts, and this album in particular was one of the greatest ever made. It's a classic, even 40+ years after it was made. That's a sign of genius.
This was the album you played when you were at your girlfriend's dorm room back in the day. Then when you left, you would head back to your own dorm room with your buddies and listen to Steely Dan, Camel, Jeff Beck, and perhaps some Return to Forever.
Oh no you did the studio version! Please do the live version from the Midnight Special! The studio version fades out at "dreams unwind, love's a state of mind" but live this is where the song really kicks off and Stevie does her Stevie thing lol you have to watch it!
There's so much going on in this song that informs New Wave production in the late '70s, early '80s (the good '80s production). You can hear Mark Knopfler, Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds coming out of this song.
This is the first time I’ve watched a video of you guys (actually just discovered this), and its amazing to see such a good reaction to my favorite band (also my favorite song, and my fave tattoo lol). Great video, guys, Im in love
I realize you don't want to do a reaction to the same song twice but I would love to see how you two react to their live Midnight Special performance of this song from 1976. They were really starting to hit the peak of their performance era at that time and she really digs into that performance. Seeing you watch them play would be great: Mick's drumming, Christie on keyboards, John McVie on bass, and Lindsey Buckingham's ripping guitar solo, to say nothing about Stevie's vocals. S-tier all the way. If you want to do a second song compare that performance to the acoustic Landslide from The Dance in 1997. Older and more mature but just as good.
Try “Second Hand News” if you want a more upbeat Fleetwood Mac song. Also consider some Christine McVie songs like “You Make Loving Fun” or “Say That You Love Me.” Other good Stevie Nicks songs include “Landslide” (another mellow classic) and “Gypsy.” Back in junior high, my bedroom was a shrine to Stevie Nicks 😍
One of my all-time fave albums and songs of all time!!! Stevie Nicks is my forever crush!!! And you're right... mystical, magical, spell-binding!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Saw them at Hec-Edmunson Pavilion (basketball arena) at Univ. of Washington in 1980. One of the rare times where you could put hands on the stage at chest level. Roses were being thrown, and I handed one up to Stevie. She bent down, kissed me on the cheek, and said, "Thank you, love." That was the end of THAT night ! And it was during "Sara". Was and still is my fave Mac. THERE'S a good tune !
"The Chain" "Second Hand News" "Go Your Own Way" "You Make Loving Fun" "Never Going Back Again" "Silver Springs" "Crystal" "World Turning" "Monday Morning" "That's All for Everyone" "Tusk" "Hold Me"
OMG. This was the song that gave every girl in my 7th class class-I moved from 6th grade Elementary School to Junior high to start 7th grade. It was incredible to see older, developed "seniors" who were ONLY in 9th grade bc HIGH SCHOOL didn't start til 10th grade. So, for me, this song reminds me of admiring the older kids dressed like surf rats, and the whole Stevie Nicks vibe. it's funny you say witchy cuz that immediately makes me think of the eagles- 'witchy woman' cuz that was really popular at the same time+ so great great great call! I got to give you guys props for that one. that's a good one!!!! That was the same time Jackson Browne boulevard & running on empty!!!. unbelievable Jackson Browne damn you guys got to do a Jackson Browne session!!! RUNNING ON EMPTY

I keep seeing people say that this song was not on Rumours, but I had that album & yes, it was on that album. In fact it was my favorite song off that album! So i looked it up & this is what i found: Rumours by Fleetwood Mac was re-released in 1978, along with the single "Rhiannon" which peaked just outside the Top 40 at No. 46.

So was John Stewart's "Gold" with Stevie on backup vocals. She was in huge demand then, shame she trashed her voice due to Mac's non-stop touring off of Rumours and Tusk. Not totally,of course, but she definitely lost some of her range around 79-81.
@@wreckingKREW1 Great song in its own right.
lindsey buckingham is the guitar king. on his live recordings he does amazing solos.
I rarely make suggestions, but try Stop Dragging My Heart Around, a duet between Stevie and Tom Petty...
Great suggestion and great song, which was important to her. She and Tom Petty were magic together as well!! :)
Stevie said she wanted to join the Heartbreakers but Tom had and enforced a strict NO GIRLS policy!
Actually, Stevie Nicks was an honorary Heartbreaker. So they made an exception for her. I love it! :))
Really should watch that one live....
I've suggested this one before. This record combines Stevie's voice with a fine Petty composition, with the Heartbreakers playing excellently as usual.
These folks are pros not amatures and shredding is not always needed. Stevie is a phenomenal singer and a very mysterious woman she always has been.
There is a live version of this song from the Midnight Special, somewhere around 1973, that might be one of the all time great live singing performances. Really worth a look. Loving the diversity of music on the channel lads, great stuff.
This ruclips.net/video/W_O4Ygcgh8w/видео.html 1976
Had to have been at least '75 as that was when this appeared on the first Fleetwood Mac album with Buckingham and Nicks. But probably worth looking for in 75 or 76, I would guess.

@@TheAsiavol Ah Good show, thanks for posting that!
....this song carries itself so well. The guitar plays great over the rhythm. And the vocals softly weave in and out.
Love it!!
Stevie and Don Henley(Eagles) ~ "Leather And Lace"
Stevie and Tom Petty ~ "Stop Draggin My Heart Around"
Stevie and Petty hook up on another song called “Insider” on his Hard Promises album. Another good one.
An honorary Heartbreaker for sure.
And Stevie and Kenny Loggins, " Whenever I Call You Friend ". All her duets are fabulous.
Yes oleeease! Love it! With official video of them onstage performing “Stop draggin’ my heart around.”
Henley is a notorious blocker, so that may not work.
One of my favorite female rockers is Chrissie Hynde, from The Pretenders, please check out.
It's 'Pretenders' not 'The Pretenders' I learned recently 😊 but I second this!!!! Space Invader and Up the Neck!!
Strong, strong, strong third for this one
Tattooed Love Boys
Absolutely!!!!! ABSOLUTELY 💯..I MEAN SERIOUSLY.
Birds of Paradise, Don't get me wrong, Middle of the Road. Chrissie Hynde is the quintessential Rock 🎸 mama of all time. Still going 💪 she's my girl crush.
Dudes....you need to watch the Live version of this song....seriously! Look for The Midnight Special. The live version is a completely different animal! And Lindsey has a heck of a guitar solo.
Maybe time for Fleetwood Mac's Albatross as perspective from an earlier era of the band?
Even though the Buckingham/Nicks era was great, and it is the more commercially successful incarnation of the band, I prefer the Peter Green years. He is such an under rated talent. The constant between the eras is Mick and John, one of the tightest duos ever.
@@guichogf5636 Yes, my fave is 'Then Play On'. Would definitely suit Alex and Andy
They’ve already looked at Santana’s version of Black Magic Woman. Maybe they should look at the original from Fleetwood Mac
Personally, as A&A have done Santana's version of Black Magic Woman, they should compare the original from an earlier incarnation of Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green.
“Oh Well” rocks! With a little of that Blues edge.
Listen and watch the live version from the Midnight Special
you guys need to go way way back with Fleetwood Mac with Oh Well
Especially part 2 so beautiful
Green Manalishi is my jam
Yes....that was the best Fleetwood Mac period.
@@simply_psi Absofuckinglutely. It is must hear music. I could get jealous of someone hearing it for the first time.
The original Oh Well with Peter Green parts 1 and part 2. Lyndsey never played the second part.
"It felt witchy, almost." LOL, maybe because it's a song about a witch.
I guess that's points for the composition the song.
Isn't this Greek mythology, though, as in "taken by the wind" is Zeus?
Actually, it's about a Goddess.
Well Stevie Nicks thinks it's about an old Welsh which.
Type "Rhiannon Fleetwood Mac Live 1976" into RUclips's search engine. It should pull up a great version from The Midnight Special.
Do “you make loving fun” next, it features Christines highly underrated vocals and is an awesome song
Absolutely.
Although, I REALLY want them to listen to Why. That’s my favorite Christine song. Showcasing she can create magic without Lindsey.
Agreed. Christine is a great musician. Very underrated in my opinion
She is my favorite member, I love her deep register and song writing
Christine has a beautiful voice.
Love CHRISTINE. SO overlooked.
Mike Loomis sounds like you and your dorm mates were into some jazz fusion. Ever listen to The Session? Or Bobby Cobham?
RTF Romantic Warrior would give these guys chills...
Oh no you did the studio version! Please do the live version from the Midnight Special! The studio version fades out at "dreams unwind, love's a state of mind" but live this is where the song really kicks off and Stevie does her Stevie thing lol you have to watch it!
OMFG...I was just listening to "Rhiannon" last night and thinking I can't wait for Andy & Alex to react to this!:)
There's so much going on in this song that informs New Wave production in the late '70s, early '80s (the good '80s production). You can hear Mark Knopfler, Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds coming out of this song.
I saw Fleetwood mac in 76 in Austin Tx and then saw Stevie solo in 78. Both shows were great, she sings like an angel!
“It’s a song about an old Welsh witch,” Stevie Nix.
This is the first time I’ve watched a video of you guys (actually just discovered this), and its amazing to see such a good reaction to my favorite band (also my favorite song, and my fave tattoo lol). Great video, guys, Im in love
Second Hand News and Silver Springs I highly recommend for you guys keep doing what you love rock on💖🤘
For silver springs I would even recommend the live version
I'd love to hear their thoughts on Second Hand News. Such an overlooked FM track!
Lindsay has 2 seminal live songs...guitar work that makes your jaw drop..."Big Love" and "I'm So Afraid" both live on the album THE DANCE... amazing
Early favorite song a friend and I had shared.
Try “Second Hand News” if you want a more upbeat Fleetwood Mac song.
Also consider some Christine McVie songs like “You Make Loving Fun” or “Say That You Love Me.”
Other good Stevie Nicks songs include “Landslide” (another mellow classic) and “Gypsy.”
Back in junior high, my bedroom was a shrine to Stevie Nicks 😍
I would love to see them review a Christine McVie song like "Say That You Love Me"
One of my all-time fave albums and songs of all time!!! Stevie Nicks is my forever crush!!! And you're right... mystical, magical, spell-binding!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great reaction. Try a Stevie Nicks solo outing called Edge of Seventeen. The live version is great.
Magical... so goes Fleetwood Mac.... Stevie broke a million hearts
This album would definitely be in my list of top 10 albums ever produced.
Love your analysis! Fleetwood Mac's music all kicks ass!
The one-word title brings it ALL back for me on either of these two: "Sara" and "Tusk", both S-tier in my book.
I second "Sarah"
Saw them at Hec-Edmunson Pavilion (basketball arena) at Univ. of Washington in 1980.
One of the rare times where you could put hands on the stage at chest level. Roses were being thrown, and I handed one up to Stevie. She bent down, kissed me on the cheek, and said, "Thank you, love." That was the end of THAT night !
And it was during "Sara". Was and still is my fave Mac. THERE'S a good tune !
Make sure to watch the Midnight Special Live version. Crazy.
Love the way the bass keeps up a steady chant of eight notes and the rhodes piano just whispers in the background.
"The Chain" "Second Hand News" "Go Your Own Way" "You Make Loving Fun" "Never Going Back Again" "Silver Springs" "Crystal" "World Turning" "Monday Morning" "That's All for Everyone" "Tusk" "Hold Me"
Don’t forget “Dreams”
Yes crystal
You should see a live version of a Fleetwood Mac video to see how Lindsey Buckingham plucks, not picks, his guitar solos.
When you go to Linda Ronstadt, start with "Long, long time" which is beautiful and shows the emotion her voice carried. You'll be hooked.
Goose bumps every time. And she does it by just singing the melody-no histrionics.
Guys, you NEED to watch one of the live versions from the 70s. Stevie Nicks, really really goes off at the end.
Live version shows what it needs to go S
I love this channel! I'd recommend 'Low Rider' by War, and 'Dreadlock Holiday' by 10cc.
Also, look into Tape Op Magazine. It is like a master class in audio production. tapeop.com/ The interviews are epic!
Lindsey Buckingham was a very underrated guitarist...’You Make Loving Fun’ and ‘I’m So Afraid’ showcase his talents.
They still sound just as great in person, because I've gone to my first show in 2015 and the 2nd show last yr, my 25 yr old daughter loved it
Second hand news next! 😄
One of the best songs of all time. I'm 56 and love to see new generations discover songs that I heard the day they came out. I saw that you two reacted to Boston, and Rush also, but you need to hear (if you haven't) another rockin 3 man band; "Triumph" Their song; "Lay it on the Line" is a classic. I highly recommend it, and in seeing your tastes in music, I would bet you'd love it. The video has 14,600,368 views
Love to see the live 76 version on Patreon. It won’t disappoint you guys!
Always loved this song. Didn't know it existed til I was in college. I'm actually the only Rhiannon I know that is older than the song/ not named for the song.
Pick One:
Neil Young - Powderfinger (from Live Rust)
CSN: Southern Cross or Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
CSNY: Carry On or Southern Man
Southern cross
Guys you need to go back further and check out Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. "Black Magic woman" "Oh well" "The Green Manalishi" "Need your love so bad"
Frank Zappa - City of Tiny Lights
ELO - Sweet Talkin' Woman, Turn to Stone
Tragically Hip - Nautical Disaster
Fleetwood Mac were true lyrical wordsmiths. Their lyrics were every bit as important as their musicianship.
You absolutely have to do "Go Your Own Way" to get a taste of a "harder" Fleetwood Mac song.
They already did, but it was blocked. It's free on their Patreon page.
