Got these shoes after watching the review and can confirm they are really good. Light, breathable, excellent traction. I already took them on a 25k race with 1400m D+ and they performed very well. Highly recommended.
Would these be good for running on concrete or pavement? I want to get a hiking/ trail running shoe but I run on the treadmill a lot too and on concrete paths. Would your recommend them for that ?
@Keefeology they do in that they have nice stability from the midsole and outsole being nice and wide but the upper isn’t the most supportive when running on the technical stuff. What types of trails do you plan on using them on?
@@trailandkale Hmm, I'd say most use multi-use trails so a bit of dirt and crushed gravel. But I also intend to use these to do some hikes (next one is Mount Fuji) and have them as a versatile pair to run on the road as well - the issue is I travel for work quite often and I don't want to bring too many pairs of shoes.
You mentioned they're not very "cushioned" despite the high stack~~would you consider these for longer ultra efforts? Has the midsole broken in at all as you pile on the miles?
I'd recommend up to half mara distance in these ones because of the responsive feel, and also the lack of support due to the knit collar design and flexible heel counter.
No it’s a very different shoe to the Salomon Genesis - I’ve been testing that one too (review coming soon). Amer Sports owns the two brands but the companies’ design labs are very much separate I believe.
@@trailandkale I''ve moved to the Sylan Pro from the SG5, as I had too many issues around out sole durability and robustness - I've had two instances of rock shards penetrating the sole including the footbed. 3 months of running in the SG5 and they are shot. I must say though that most of my running in these has been typically 17-26+ mile sessions , mountain and coastal path terrain. I guess I've pushed them to their limit. Lets see how the Arc'teryx hold up :)
@@ThePastaEater I’ve been able to put 50 miles in my Sylan pros, super protective and the rocker is interesting. They break in a bit but not very flexible and I find that my foot will be forced in a direction based on that. I think it would be great if they added some flex grooves or a decoupled outsole to the next gen. Very interesting shoe, very durable and well made.

Thanks for sharing your experience too! They’re awesome!
Had a lot of fun in these
Let me know if you have any question about these - and I hope you enjoy the review ✌🏼
These look really cool 👌🏼

Yeh they’d work well for that too because the midsole is cushioned yet responsive. The rocker geometry is also nice running on road surfaces
Do they work well (in your opinion) if someone requires stability shoe due to pronated feet?

Sound like these would work really well for your scenario! If it was me, I’d choose these too
Bonjour ce modèle remplace la Norvan Ld ? J’étais impatient de voir la Norvan Ld4
Hey 👋🏼 I’m not sure if this is a replacement or not yet..

It feels to me very cushioned and appropriate for ultras.
Not relative to something like a Speedgoat. The main reason they’re not the best for ultras though is the lack of stability/support from the upper
@@unlockedborders I suppose how "cushioned" a high stack midsole feels is pretty dependent on the runner's weight and biomechanics!
That’s correct but also on the compression characteristics of the foam.
would you also recommend these for a mix of trail hiking/running?
Yes they’d work well for both
Would you recommend these for faster walking on pavement and concrete ? How does the rocker system benefit our feet ?
They’re good on hard ground surfaces too. The rocker is there to help smoothen out your stride from foot strike to take off.
What's the difference with Pro model ?
I believe it’s just the colors! The pro is their limited edition colorways for the Arc’teryx pro athletes
@trailandkale got it! Thanks 🙌
@avoenasdvoe any time
Can you do normal hiking on these shoes? 😊
Definitely! They would be great for hiking!
Do you know real stack height? It looks more thicker than 28mm!
Confirming it’s a 28mm stack at the heel.
Technically it sits a bit higher off the ground however as the profile is rockered
@@trailandkale thank you for reply, I’ll try it!
Are they waterproof? They look like they might be?
They’re not, but there is a gore tex version available
Wow didn't even know these existed.
Pretty sweet trail runners!
Basically it s a genesis with a proper outsole vibram ?
Salomon own arcteryx

Actually the sylan and the whole collection is the first one made without the help of salomon. Hopefully norvan LD 4 will come out quickly
Fingers crossed
Seems Speedgoat-esque
Taking the Speedgoat 6 for a spin this weekend… can’t wait to see how it performs over the SG5

@ThePastaEater I’m interested to see how you get on with the Sylan. For the most part they’re an awesome all mountain trail shoe
