XD I love all the people saying Steve is evil for killing foxes when they fail to realise that he is helping conserve animals that are supposed to be here and getting rid of pests
I really like both calibers. If your shooting for pelts or whistling, I would say the .22mag is the best as it doesn't do much damage and it also isn't as noisy, if your shooting for pest eradication or an area where the foxes are under greater hunting presure, the .223 would be the pick of the two as you can take longer shots.
The .17HMR is my pick for foxes if you want to keep the pelts..22mag is good as well but the .17 is better. Shotguns tend to put to many holes in the pelts and you need to get pretty close for it to be effective.
Foxes are not native to Australia. They are a problem for farmers as they kill a lot of lambs but the main reason people hunt them is because they are responsible for killing alot of smaller native animals and birds. They are the reason some native species are extinct in parts of Australia.
I bought a couple of Silva Fox Whistles ( standard and mini size) from Ron Kiehne and they also work brilliantly. The whistle on this video sounds very similar though I think the Silva is perhaps slightly raspier. Hungry foxes come a-running!
i dont do a lot of fox hunting in Vic but i know there are a lot of great areas with high numbers. Google search hunting clubs and go from there. hope this helps
Good job guys, this vid has helped me heaps...I'm going to get a fox whistle now and have a go! They def are a pest and better cull them with a quick shot than let them starve to death...
good work there steve. i do a lot of lamping as we call it here. i use a bunch of different callers, some cheep and some expensive. but the best of them all is my mate moss. he can usually turn even the fox that has been shot at before. always good to have a few callers with you. would you do a video on the different ones you have. cheers poulo. ps. i love guns to
did you use that .17hmr on that 150 yard shot?... i currently hut fox with a shotgun using #4 shot and that works great but only out to 20-30 yards and if they hang up im screwed.. im looking to buy a low cal. for this i hunt for pelts.. any advise. what kind of scope is it
Man I've got a serious fox problem right now, but unfortunately by the time this whistle would get to me from Australia my duck season will be over. I'm getting one for next year
yep and i think they where introduced into AUS. i hunt them here in ontario canada but here you have to skin them and have there hides tanned(its illegal not too this is the same for coyotes and wolves and even some types squirrels) because they're furbearers
hey i shoot quite a few rabbits not many foxes but every week rabbits but i tried making the skin nice but it always smells a bit and goes kinda stiff after a couple months can i please ask how you tan them thanks
Hey im getting into hunting and I was wondering what caliber you would recommend as a first gun as im 15 and im looking to go hunting for rabbits and foxes
Steve, Like the whistle...small, simple. Bet it would work on coyotes here in the US. I have to ask...are the foxes a native species in OZ? Or were they imported? Thanks..
Hi Steve good shooting. The Silva wistle is being marketed here in the uk as the hot new fox call but did you know that one of your fellow Aussies called Andre Georgescu from Adalade made that kind of wistle well over a decade age and sounds exactly the same. I bought one in 2000. He also made some realy good videos one called Wistling with foxes, which he made when you were still allowed semi-auto shotguns were he used a preproduction wistle to the one I have. Like your songs and your vids.
Hey i think you should try to find and shoot the lathe 20mm anti thank gun and make it into a video or something that would be really cool just a suggestion tho
I'm just getting in to shoot . What would be a good gun to get as me first , I'm 15 and all my mates and dads mate do so I don't Really know what gun to get .
Yeah..... it's not for sport, its for pest control. I still dont get how you think hunting crows and other pests is different from hunting feral foxes??? but whatever makes you sleep at night.
The .22 magnum is Better The 17 HMR For Ranges of 100 yards. Over these ranges the 17 is flatter and gives a good chance of injury despite the low weight
Great Video mate!!! The foxes are everywhere down here in the riverland in SA at the moment we have been shooting heaps!! we take Atleast two calls when we Go out to keep them guessing... Currently using the Tenterfield whistle and the scotch Predator call which both work great, might have to pick up one of these bad boys also, not sure if you are aware but the SA government are planning on bringing in a fox bounty to match Victoria also
Fisher Hunter it is mounted with a home made mount. Used scope mounts upside down to connect it to the gun scope. The mount is part of the top of a camera tripod.
steveleeilikeguns Ah ok I never thought of that. I imagine that should hold with a larger calibre too. Wouldn't mind something like on my 30.06 as the GoPro isn't bad, but be much better to zoom. Howd you go about fixing the tripod part to the scope rings?
how do you get them to within 6 ft??? i would think they wouls see you and just shit it? we usually just chase em on the back of a ute acroass crops and shotgun em
I don't think there's anything better than the tin from a jam tin lid made into a V and a nail hole through the same place as the one you have. The lighter the gauge of tin the better the squealing rabbit sound.
great shooting boys and good humane kills, foxs look cute in story books but when you speak to farmers that loose live stock chickens ect, its a different story, they are indeed a real problem in Australia keep up the good work
It is amazing that the tree hugging greenies are against the eradication of introduced pest animals into Australia. Yes foxes are beautiful, but they are a pest that kills native animals, deer are also beautiful, but they are also a pest, pigs too need to be removed as well as the rabbits....but oh no yo can't shoot them as shooting is bad. Fishing is OK according to society....more cruel to the fish.....but shooting is bad. Good work Steve.
Its a 17 HMR. Great small game caliber.
XD I love all the people saying Steve is evil for killing foxes when they fail to realise that he is helping conserve animals that are supposed to be here and getting rid of pests
Tall KnowItAll, a very small percentage of Australia is from the also Saxons and only 40% of Australian are English
I really like both calibers. Good to see you have a 9422m. I was left one from my grandfather and love it if I had the money I would buy another one. Good video keep them coming.
I bought a couple of Silva Fox Whistles ( standard and mini size) from Ron Kiehne and they also work brilliantly. The whistle on this video sounds very similar though I think the Silva is perhaps slightly raspier. Hungry foxes come a-running!
I had no idea how many foxes were around, good shooting guys
Love your work Steve
awesome fox whistle Steve Thanks. And you made another great Video of coarse!!!
I use the same whistle... it's freaking awesome. Grate video mate.
Great whistle and footage guys
Not in NSW but they do have a $10 bounty in Victoria.
i dont do a lot of fox hunting in Vic but i know there are a lot of great areas with high numbers. Google search hunting clubs and go from there. hope this helps
Good job guys, this vid has helped me heaps...I'm going to get a fox whistle now and have a go! They def are a pest and better cull them with a quick shot than let them starve to death...
Y are there 100 dislikes if you don't like hunting than don't fkn watch it simple as that I gave it a like
Nice work on the Foxes Steve. Silva seems to work a treat.
good work there steve. i do a lot of lamping as we call it here. i use a bunch of different callers, some cheep and some expensive. but the best of them all is my mate moss. he can usually turn even the fox that has been shot at before. always good to have a few callers with you. would you do a video on the different ones you have. cheers poulo. ps. i love guns to
haha i went whistling and it was just like this, the fox actually got so close and looked me in the eye. It was brilliant :) Great video!
No we dont have concealed or open carry laws at all with the exception of police and a few security jobs.
you are doing a noble job mate... keep doing it.
Great video lads well done, they came right in to the call. good clean kills
Where was the fox hit the 1st time at 7:14 ? Also why did it run around like a headless chook for?
No it;s not my property, Its a farm near Glen Innes.
hey steve I know this is kind of s stretch but is there concealed carry in AU? Im guessing not but im just curious
I have always wanted to hunt with the 17 HMR. Thanks!
Just a standard winchester SX3. Not sure as it was a gift from my wife.
Because they were somewhat hidden and probably wearing camo clothes, and the fox whistle is a great tool...
Good trick with that great whistle. Nice shooting boys!
What caliber was the Ruger? .308?
put links in the description of all your gear would be helpful thanks
Splendid shooting, well done!!!
Get a Marlin 17Hmr around 400 in australia, great gun.
did you use that .17hmr on that 150 yard shot?... i currently hut fox with a shotgun using #4 shot and that works great but only out to 20-30 yards and if they hang up im screwed.. im looking to buy a low cal. for this i hunt for pelts.. any advise. what kind of scope is it
These foxes are so cute.
Man I've got a serious fox problem right now, but unfortunately by the time this whistle would get to me from Australia my duck season will be over. I'm getting one for next year
make one. just punch two holes in a tin, or jam jar lid, cost nothing
Nice video ... How do you guys have the video camera mounted on the gun and where do i get one lol
Bel video complimenti!
hey steve have you ever heard or tried the fox whistle app on an iphone ? friends of mine use it to good use .
would a 243. be ok or overkill
luke curnuttee Way to much for pelt use but for eradication why not! But it would be expensive
luke curnuttee bloody oath i use 243 no worries out to 400 yards no dramas cz 550 varmint arguably best rifle made in last twenty years
hey steve.what is your opinion of a .22 winchester Magnum rimfire as a foxing gun?or would it be better to get a .223?
Thanks mate
yep and i think they where introduced into AUS. i hunt them here in ontario canada but here you have to skin them and have there hides tanned(its illegal not too this is the same for coyotes and wolves and even some types squirrels) because they're furbearers
Nice video!
@flysubcompact foxes were bought to Australia
foxs are a pest in Australia love fox hunting i have 2 of those fox whistles get things they are
can you tell me were you can get them fos wistles
hey i shoot quite a few rabbits not many foxes but every week rabbits but i tried making the skin nice but it always smells a bit and goes kinda stiff after a couple months
can i please ask how you tan them thanks
Yeah, I'd love to know the same thing. Did you pick it up while visiting the Great White North or down there in Australia???
Hey im getting into hunting and I was wondering what caliber you would recommend as a first gun as im 15 and im looking to go hunting for rabbits and foxes
8:47 what's the firearm steve is holding
kekeke4467 Stainless steel and synthetic stocked 12G shotgun! Maybe a remington or a mossburg its hard to tell....
do you like the .222 on the foxes?
Steve,
Like the whistle...small, simple. Bet it would work on coyotes here in the US. I have to ask...are the foxes a native species in OZ? Or were they imported? Thanks..
Nice shot!

were can i get one steve
Hey i think you should try to find and shoot the lathe 20mm anti thank gun and make it into a video or something that would be really cool just a suggestion tho
Steve, what do you clean your guns with. I just purchased a silva fox whistle, I might take it out in the spotlight
I'm just getting in to shoot . What would be a good gun to get as me first , I'm 15 and all my mates and dads mate do so I don't Really know what gun to get .
What a beautiful place, wheres that?
Yeah..... it's not for sport, its for pest control. I still dont get how you think hunting crows and other pests is different from hunting feral foxes??? but whatever makes you sleep at night.
Hey Steve I saw a Remington 7600 in the background in the beginning. I'm thinking of picking one up in .308 how do you rate them? Thanx mate
i am here to stop people saying first! nice video steve!
Hi Guys, how did you attach the camcorder to the scope, great video keep them coming.
What rifle were you using? I'm always curious on the caliber. i've heard and seen everything from a .22 magnum to a .38 special through a long arm.
Why are you shooting them may I ask?
Hey Steve, quick question, are the rifles you's are using a .22 or .17HMR or something else i havent mentioned?
An interesting video, but im just curious as a person who has never really had to hunt pests, are foxes really pests?
Good shots!
tom7601 the worst footage ever. Ffs if you go on RUclips practise your camera work first.
yes for areas they were not naturaly in sorta like wold pigs or hogs in southern states they eat everything
well done... nice shooting. do you think a 17hmr would be sufficient for fox hunting at 75yd and under? and what gun are you using??
Sub 177 or 22 air gun will drop a fox at 20m but 177 is better penetration
17hmr is lethal to foxes about 120m away
The .22 magnum is Better The 17 HMR For
Ranges of 100 yards.
Over these ranges the 17 is flatter and gives a good chance of injury despite the low weight
They are considered Pests and destroy many different items. Including eating any other small animals that may be on a farm. (Rabbits, Chickens etc.)
How close were those!!! awesome!!
What's that on your head
oy could you do a vid on tanning a fox hide?
Hey what is the name of the whistle? And nice video
Great Video mate!!! The foxes are everywhere down here in the riverland in SA at the moment we have been shooting heaps!! we take Atleast two calls when we Go out to keep them guessing... @ 7.55, hows that camera mounted to the scope?
Cheers.

+steveleeilikeguns Could you do a video on how you made the mount?

what rifle and ammo m8
I don't think there's anything better than the tin from a jam tin lid made into a V and a nail hole through the same place as the one you have. The lighter the gauge of tin the better the squealing rabbit sound.
Love the hunting room
Looked like a rabbit took of to the right at 1:13 ..!!... Ha Ha ...cool footage again Steve !!>>>>>
Nice work steve. How much did the whistle set you back?
great shooting boys and good humane kills, foxs look cute in story books but when you speak to farmers that loose live stock chickens ect, its a different story, they are indeed a real problem in Australia keep up the good work
Love your work :)
