I live in ypsilanti township and have worked in Ann Arbor saline and detroit and your travel times are way off it would take 25- 30 minutes to get to ann arbor and 30-40 to get back home using i-94 saline 20 to get there 45-55 minutes to get home using michigan ave detroit 45 minutes to get there 1&1/2 -2 hours to get home using michigan ave and 2-3 1/2 hours using l-94 they keep reducing the number of lanes which makes the times even longer and don't forget all the speed traps 😮
Ypsilanti has some of the best dive restaurants around. Bill’s Hotdogs has the best chili dogs and root beer. You won’t find a better steak hoagie than Gabriel’s. There is The Chick Inn, Roy’s Big Squeeze and don’t forget The Bomber Restaurant.
i agree with you for the most I part. I live in Ypsilanti in Pittsfield township. My sister also has an Ypsilanti address, but is in Superior township. We are both areAnn Arbor School district From a renter’s perspective rent is cheaper in Ypsilanti. both my sister and I spend most of our time in Ann Arbor. We are both on the border. If I cross the street north or south I’m in AnnArbor My sister’s house was $500.000. but she and her husband make a lot of money. I’ve lived in Ypsilanti for 15 years and 11 of those years I’ve worked in Ann Arbor. a lot of young adults live in Ypsilanti and work in Ann Arbor including at the University of Michigan because it is cheaper.
Just like most of the southern part of Michigan Ypsilanti could be better. However . Ypsilanti is home ( born and raised) and if you are willing to help create a better town then stick around and be the change .
Ypsi-tucky. My mom is from there and met my dad at EMU after he got back from WWII. Her uncle was on the city council in the 40's and my grandpa was well known there. I was born there in 53. Ypsi was a strange mix of hillbillies and hippies in the 70's. Hung out a lot there in my long hair days, but grew out of it. As for the phallic shaped water tower, rumor is that it will crumble if a virgin ever graduates from EMU. It STILL STANDS!
That heritage museum you missed a real Gem there. That is the least Hudson dealership in all of the USA. Peter Jennings did a whole segment on it when it was getting ready to close up.
Some black residents also call it Ypsi-tucky. There are a lot of people (black and white) that are suportive and associated with the Confederacy, including city officials.
Someone tried to rob me in front of the co-op on a Friday morning couple months ago , I've gotten food poisoning from just about every joint on Cross Street (none of the ones you mentioned!), my landlord in raises the rent by 10% every year, and there was a fatal stabbing a couple blocks from EMU on July 4. The city is visibly dirty. I do not recommend living in Ypsilanti. Really appreciate the informative video though! Just offering a divergent perspective based on a resident's perspective.
You are so incredibly wrong about the property taxes. I tried to buy a house in Normal Park for 325K in 2023 and the taxes were going to be between 12-15K. Ypsi city has more mills than Ann Arbor. The townships are closer to what you described.
Great vid and very informative. Is there any public transport or bicycling infrastructure? I ask b/c I may have to relocate from Europe for work…but it’s not lookin’ so good in this respect.
I grew up in ypsi, I live in Van Buren twp now (Belleville). For the most part I agree with everything you said, except you said Ford Lake is beautiful. Lol omg, have you been on, in or near Ford Lake? I'm surprised mutant carp haven't come out of the water to rise up and attack whatever they see 😂😂😂😂
Taxes! Always consider taxes when shopping real estate. Washtenaw Co has some of the highest mils in the state. Ypsi schools are horrid ....they cannot get their act together, beware. Depot Town is decent, actual downtown Ypsi is different so keep your head on a swivel. So much potential wasted here for years.
Nothing crazy about the property taxes? Uhhh....I totally disagree with you on this one. My brother pays anywhere from 5.5-7k yearly for a home valued at 325k
Our food is top notch but u right on our school systems as a graduate of Ypsilanti high i can say i didnt learn nothing some days my teacher wouldn't show up then ignorant kids make the sub quit 😂 i can promise u i went to ypsi middle through high there schools aren't shit and teachers are just as bad

You missed the BEST local 'real Ypsi' restaurant, THE BOMBER. A restaurant that celebrates the World War II bomber factory.
Thanks for the addition. I’ll do another video on Ypsi soon!
All of the waitresses there have an ugly attitude.

ahaha...I have never heard that rumor about the water tower. That is hilarious!!
It's very old. From the 60's at least. Probably got squelched by PC weenies. @@TRULIVINGMICHIGAN

Oh good one. Thanks
Washtenaw county has the highest taxes than any other county in Michigan.
There are a few others that are just as much. Grosse Point and Franklin are pretty high
It's a ripoff because the wrong kind of people will get in anyhow.
True. I live here. The property taxes are crazy
Some black residents also call it Ypsi-tucky. There are a lot of people (black and white) that are suportive and associated with the Confederacy, including city officials.
I’ve heard that before Ypsi-tucky 🤣
What!!! Black folks supporting the confederacy??? Like the confederate flag?? Man you better GTFOH with that BS.
Well i think the city has a black invasion and once that happens, it might as well be Pontiac in whatever pockets you see that in. Ruins it.

There is a public bus system

According to this fuy, Ypsi gets to celebrate their bicentennial again in 2 years.

Pretty fair assessment.

How ypsilanti is from ann arbor
20-30 min from downtown to downtown but it’s the boarder city to Ann Arbor.
Remember When He Speaks of ALL THE CONS!
Yup!
Didn't He Happen To Mention the Vacancy. Those Restaurants He Named Are Not Even Two Years Old!
Turnover after 2020 was pretty high. Hoping all of the new businesses stay in business!
Need to mention Sidetracks and Aubrees and Ma Lou's!!!
Thanks, will hit them on the next one!
Ma lous ?? 😂😂😂 that's not a Ypsi staple that place is brand new.
